Get PDFIn recent years, governments have been granting vast land concessions to national elites and foreign investors for agro-industrial enterprises, forestry, and mineral extraction. The research aimed to improve implementation of the Community Land Act by testing processes for documentation and mapping of community lands to ensure inclusive land governance and local governance work, including resolving land conflicts. Because rising investment in land increases the vulnerability of women’s land rights, the project included a specific focus on protection for women and vulnerable populations. Both the Community Land Act and Kenya’s constitution include strong protections for women’s land rights

This brief explores how to address gender equality and inclusion in supporting research for development (R4D) leaders at both individual and organizational levels. This requires an understanding of who has traditionally participated in the field, which groups are underrepresented and the challenges marginalized groups may face. Explicit strategies are needed to support a diversity of emerging leaders, as well as target setting for engaging researchers from marginalized backgrounds
Uptake of climate change adaptation research results in Africa : resilience for supplemental irrigation in Mali
No full textCollaborative community resilience and adaptive capacity are crucial for communities to survive and thrive under climate change. Building on work of the core project team with stakeholders in Koutiala, led to the construction of two runoff catchments called BCERs (Bassin de Collecte des Eaux de Ruissellement) as part of the Adaptation at Scale in Semi-Arid Regions (ASSAR) project. The Collaboration for Adaptation and Resilience in Mali (Co-FARM) project aimed to increase adaptive capacities of the BCER water resource users. Despite heightened security threats and a government coup, the project has made significant progress in convening stakeholders around the shared use of BCER water resources

No full textThe needs of research systems in fragile contexts like Myanmar are particular and varied, requiring relevant, appropriate, and innovative forms of support that contribute to the system overall and do not adversely affect its development. Through its provision of capacity-strengthening support and mentorship to Myanmar individual researchers, universities, think tanks, networks, and certain state actors, K4DM substantively improved the enabling environment for research on gender, democratization, decentralization, environmentalism, and inclusive growth in a very challenging context
