No full textSmallholder indigenous chicken farmers suffer the disadvantages of low economies of scale in production, and weak bargaining power as individual actors in the marketing of their produce. These risks compromise their livelihood sources but also the dietary diversity and nutrition security for their households. Unequal gender relations at micro and meso levels may exacerbate the challenges that smallholder farmers face. In Makueni County, livestock keeping have a high potential to economically empower women smallholder farmers yet diseases like Newcastle Disease (ND), Contagious Caprine Pleuropneumonia (CCPP) and unequal gender relations undermine this potential. Get PDFThis brief presents the role of network governance in the community access office (CAO) sector in South Africa. There is limited research on the role of network governance by CAOs and community-based paralegals (CBPs) regarding the facilitation of effective access to justice in South Africa. There is, therefore, a need to bring the experiences of CBPs and service recipients in this regard into the open. This brief describes network governance and the nature of work that requires network governance; whom the CBPs network with and how they build the network; and the challenges and benefits they experience and opportunities to improve their networks. The brief presents the perspectives of CBPs and service recipients at the ten CAOs in this study, organized according to the five provinces where they are located. Get PDFHate speech is widely acknowledged as a precipitator of violence, particularly against vulnerable minorities, and a contributor to societal polarization which can lead to instability and conflict escalation. The impact of hate speech on fragile states has risen in recent years as a result of increased internet connectivity, enabling hate speech to be disseminated through social media and contributing on a large scale to persecution, armed conflict, and genocide in various countries. The sheer volume of hate speech constantly circulating online exceeds the capabilities of human moderators, thus resulting in the need for increasingly effective automation. The pervasiveness of online hate speech also presents an opportunity since these large volumes of data are potentially useful as indicators of spiraling instability and introduce the possibility of early intervention. The purpose of this research is to provide a technical explanation of the processes involved while still attempting to make the material digestible for an audience with limited or no technical experience in the subject

We have put in place many practices, policies, and spaces to help our partners produce research findings that are representative of the geopolitical context of the communities they belong to and conduct research within. The following report outlines the key takeaways based on our intensive learning experience, observation, and continued interest in this research field
