SOPORTE DE Ricinus communis (HIGUERILLA) EN EL RENDIMIENTO DE Phaseolus vulgaris L. (FREJOL), EN LA REGIÓN SAN MARTÍN, PERÚ
The support of the branches of the higuerilla tree (Ricinus communis L.) is evaluated in its ability to promote the yield of the bean variety Huasca Poroto (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in the native communities of Alto Shamboyacu and Chunchiwi, San Martin region. We used the Randomized Block Design, with four treatments and three blocks. The treatments used were: T0 (bean with corn, control), T1 (all unpruned huiguerilla branches associated with bean), T2 (higuerilla pruned and the formation of two higuerilla branches associated with bean) and T3 (higuerilla pruned and the formation of three higuerilla branches associated with bean). The indicators used in both communities were: leaf area (cm2), pod length (cm), number of pods per plant, plant height (m), number of seeds per pod, average seed weight (g), yield (kg/ha-1) and economic analysis. In both communities, the treatment T3 provided more support to bean growth, therefore increasing the yield and economic benefit of the bean cultivation with 1709.18 and 1367.34 kg/ha-1 and with 0.22 and -0.03 of B/C. It is demonstrated that the support of the higuerilla with three branches provides better sustainability and increases the production of the bean; the association bean and higuerilla makes greater profitability and greater economic benefits possible for the inhabitants of the studied areas.

Primates are fundamental to the regulation and regeneration of forests through the dispersion and predation of seeds. In addition, they act as indicators of ecosystem conservation, while some species are utilized for subsistence and commercialized as bush meat. For these reasons, the population status of primates was estimated in flooded forest and terra firme in the upper and lower Putumayo basin using the linear transect method. Ten primate species were detected over 838.8 kms of transect, nine of which corresponded to the upper basin and eight to the lower basin. Dominance was low among basins and habitats, while among locations; Nuevo Belén showed high dominance due to the abundance of Saimiri macrodon. The highest population densities corresponded to S. macrodon (14.69 ind./km2) and Leontocebus nigricollis nigricollis (7.83 ind./km2), and the lowest to Cebuella pygmaea pygmaea (0.04 ind./km2). We found a significant difference between habitats (ANOSIM, p= 0.001), where Leontocebus nigricollis nigricollis was abundant in flooded forest and Saimiri macrodon in the mainland. Correlation analysis indicates that there is a positive association between Pithecia napensis and Aloutta seniculus (p= 0.0004; r= 0.73). In conclusion, as the population densities of the large primates are low, it is necessary to implement conservation strategies according to the wildlife and native communities settled in this part of the Peruvian Amazon.
EFECTO DEL EXTRACTO ACUOSO DE Clibadium surinamense L. EN EL CONTROL DE Monalonion dissimulatum Dist. EN UNA PLANTACIÓN DE CACAO (Theobroma cacao L.)
Experiments using plant extracts to control pests have become promising because they are economically viable and sustainable. The effects of different concentrations of an aqueous extract of Huaca (Clibadium surinamense) to control Monalonion dissimulatum in a cocoa plantation (Theobroma cacao) were evaluated. Extracts from C. surinamense leaves were evaluated at concentrations of 0 %, 5 %, 15 % and 30 %. The severity of fruit damage was evaluated with slightly modified Donis scale (1988), considering five degrees of attack. We used a Randomized Complete Design (RCD) with 4 treatments and 12 replicates, resulting in 48 experimental units. The aqueous extracts of C. surinamense at 15 % and 30 % caused a higher percentage of mortality of M. dissimulatum in the nymphal and adult stages. For attack degree 1, treatments with 5 %, 15 % and 30 % aqueous extracts of C. surinamense showed a significant increase in the number of unstuck cobs. As for attack degrees 2 and 3, all the treatments presented a significant reduction in the number of affected cobs. However, for attack degrees 4 and 5 the concentrations of 15 % and 30 % did not result in any affected cobs.
SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION OF PALM SWAMP THROUGH SUPERVISED CLASSIFICATION OF SATELLITE IMAGES OF UCAYALI REGION, PERU
Palm swamps are ecosystems with a predominant presence of the palm Mauritia flexuosa, which provides important socio-economic and environmental benefits to the inhabitants of the Peruvian Amazon. The objective of this study is to determine the extent of palm swamp forest in the Ucayali region, Peru, through the supervised classification method of satellite images generated by the LANDSAT 8 Earth Observation satellite through the OLI-TIRS sensor, corresponding to Ucayali region in 2017. We visually interpreted the combination of bands 5 (Near Infrared (NIR), with wavelengths of 0.85 - 0.88 μm), 6 (Short Wave Infrared 1 (SWIR 1), with wavelengths of 1.57 - 1.65 μm) and 2 (Blue, with wavelengths of 0.45 - 0.51 μm) to obtain the map of palm swamp forest with an interpretation scale of 1:100 000 and a minimum mapping area of 5.00 ha. INFESTATION OF Dolops discoidalis (CRUSTACEA: BRANCHIURA) IN Pseudoplatystoma punctifer (SILURIFORMES: PIMELODIDAE), Colossoma macropomum (CHARACIFORMES: SERRASALMIDAE) AND Brochis multiradiatus (SILURIFORMES: CALLICHTHYIDAE)
This study was carried out at the facilities of the “Centro de Investigaciones Fernando Alcántara Bocanegra (CIFAB) of the “Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazonía Peruana (IIAP), Iquitos; with the objective of knowing the parasitic behavior of Dolops discoidalis (Bouvier, 1899) (Crustacea: Branchiura) in three fish species. The sampling was carried out during the months of November and December 2018. For this study, individuals of this parasitic species were extracted from the body surface of adult specimens of Pseudoplatystoma punctifer (Castelnau, 1855), bred in captivity at the CIFAB facilities. The collected parasites were taken to the laboratory of “Parasitología y Sanidad Acuícola” of the institute (IIAP) to perform two experiments evaluating the parasitic behavior of D. discoidalis in three fish species: P. punctifer, Colossoma macropomum (Cuvier, 1816) and Brochis multiradiatus (Orcés V., 1960). Experiment I consisted of placing one specimen of each species of fish in a glass aquarium (4 replications) and distributing 18 specimens of D. discoidalis per experimental unit in order to determine the parasitic behavior of this species. For experiment II, 2 specimens of C. macropomum were placed in two different aquariums and 4 specimens of B. multiradiatus in one aquarium, with 11 parasites in each of the experimental units. The results of Experiment I showed all individuals of D. discoidalis only parasitized P. punctifer, revealing a marked affinity for this species. In Experiment II it was observed that D. discoidalis, in the absence of P. punctifer, is capable of parasitizing C. macropomum and B. multiradiatus specimens, detecting between 1 to 2 parasites per parasitized fish, revealing very low affinity. Histological studies are recommended to determine the degree of damage caused by this parasite in fish, mainly in P. punctifer, a species that showed high susceptibility to D. discoidalis
DIVERSIDAD DE MAMÍFEROS EN EL INTERFLUVIO NAPO- PUTUMAYO-AMAZONAS, AL NORTE DE LA AMAZONÍA PERUANA
Mammals maintain the structure of the forest and are important as a source of protein and economic income for Amazonian people. To determine the diversity of large and medium bodied mammals (excluding bats and small rodents) in the Putumayo-Napo-Amazonas interfluvium, 1908.1 km of linear transects were walked recording tracks and sightings, 146 camera traps were deployed for a total of 977 camera days, and burrows were searched for on 118,4 km of transects. In addition, species recorded were collected from 13 publications between 2004 and 2020. Diversity was taken as the species richness, while the expected richness was estimated with Chao 1 and the similarity between habitats was analyzed with the Morisita index. Species richness was high; 56 species from 26 families and 9 orders were recorded, and it was similar in low hills, high terraces, middle terraces and mixed palm swamps, but it was very low in peatland pole forest and riverine forest. The middle terrace and mixed palm swamps were very similar according to the Morisita index, as were the high terrace and low hill. The primates Leontocebus nigricollis, Pithecia hirsuta, Cheracebus lucifer, and Lagothrix lagothricha lagothricha are restricted to this interfluvium. The most threatened species present were Pteronura brasiliensis and L. lagothricha. The most frequent anthropogenic threats were overhunting, selective logging and deforestation. This watershed has a high diversity of mammals and healthy populations of game animals with the potential for sustainable use to benefit native communities and mitigate threats to the area from unsustainable use.
CHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION AND ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITY OF ESSENTIAL OIL OF ORANGE KINKAN (Fortunella margarita (LOUR.) SWINGLE)
Orange Kinkan (Fortunella margarita) is well known for its edible and antioxidant rich fruits. In this study, we employed Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to evaluate the antifungal potential of essential oils within both green and ripe fruits to effectively inhibit the following common plant pathogens: Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, and Colletotrichum acutatum. Green and ripe fruits of cultivated Orange Kinkan were collected from a rural unit in Rio Verde, Goiás, Brazil. Additionally, the essential oil yield was determined by hydrodistillation in Clevenger-type apparatus. We observed essential oil yields of 3.57 and 3.64% to green and ripe fruits. Within the essential oils, we detected six major compounds β-pinene, limonene, β-felandrene, α-guaiene, germacrene D, and bicyclosesquifellandrene. Essential oils showed high inhibition percentage efficiency against the three fungal pathogens. Therefore, the essential oils of the green and ripe fruits of orange Kinkan may have antifungal applications
RELACIÓN LONGITUD-PESO DE 14 ESPECIES DE PECES DE LA CUENCA DEL RÍO NAPO, AMAZONIA PERUANA
This work presents the length-weight relationships of 14 species of fish of the Napo River basin. Fish collections were carried out between 2012 and 2014, using gill nets and seine. A total of 1896 specimens, belonging to 14 species and five orders were analyzed. The allometric coefficient b ranged from 2.69 to 3.78. A new record of length-weight relationship is presented for Curimata cisandina (Allen, 1942). The comparisons with other Amazonian studies indicated differences in the parameters a and b of LWR with this study for the species Triportheus angulatus (Spix & Agassiz, 1829), Mylossoma duriventre (Cuvier, 1818), Roeboides myersii Gill, 1870 and Pellona castenaena Valenciennes, 1847 and only parameter b for Psectrogaster amazonica. The results presented in this work contribute to a better knowledge of fish resources in the region of the Peruvian Amazon, especially in the Napo River basin.
AVIAN DIVERSITY IN THE NAPO-PUTUMAYO-AMAZONAS INTERFLUVIUM, NORTHERN PERUVIAN AMAZON
The study of avian habitats is essential to understanding species abundance, diversity and distribution. For this reason, a survey of transects and mist net studies were reviewed to ascertain the ornithological richness in the Napo- Putumayo-Amazonas interfluvium, including its composition by habitat types, threatened species and main threats. Analyses conducted included a comparison of observed and expected diversity, as well as the similarities between flooded habitats (swampy varillal and mixed palm swamp) and terra firme (low hill, high terrace and middle terrace). With over 558 species registered, more than 50 % of the estimated species for Loreto were represented, with the low hill forest containing the highest species richness. The composition of species varies by type of floodplain and terra firme habitat, but both habitats / ecosystems share species, with the middle terrace being home to species found in the flooded forest and terra firme. The families Thamnophilidae, Tyrannidae and Furnariidae are the best represented in all habitats. The avifauna is very diverse and is home to unique, threatened and potential bird species. Unfortunately, the area also faces threats that endanger avian survival through the loss of habitat due to deforestation, migratory agriculture, the cultivation of Erythroxylum coca and/or the timber industry, species trafficking and overhunting. As such, it is important to implement management plans for avian species, focusing on priority habitats or tourism schemes that guarantee avian conservation
