The parasitic copepod Neoergasilus japonicus (Harada, 1930), native to eastern Asia, was collected from Colossoma macropomum (Cuvier, 1818) cultivated in a fish pound in the department of San Martin, Peru in July 2017. The parasite specimens were found attached to the base of the dorsal fin. Neoergasilus japonicus is widespread in different fish species across the world, being in this study recorded for the first time parasitizing a fish in South America. It is probably that exotic fish hosts associated with the fish-culture industry, such us the tilapia, is the responsible for the transportation and introduction into this part of the world.

The buriti is a palm of high commercial value, with ecological and social importance in the Peruvian Amazon. The excessive felling of the female individuals for the use of the fruits has caused that the fruit harvest is carried out at greater distances from the population centres and has triggered the degradation and low state of conservation of the natural palm swamps. The objective of this study was to evaluate how the inhabitants are adapting to the degradation of the resource, through the implementation of techniques of sustainable use of buriti fruits. We applied semi-structured surveys to 35 aguaje harvesters, evaluated 17 harvesting areas and accompanied 8 harvesters in the use of the buriti fruits of 16 adult individuals. The results show that the inhabitants of the district of Jenaro Herrera have implemented harvesting techniques that prevent the death of female plants less than 20 meters height, that is, they make sustainable use of the resource. In addition, the cultivation of the species in the farms and orchards demonstrates the concern of the inhabitants to keep this resource closer to the population centres. These activities demonstrate the ability of local people to adapt to the scarcity of buriti fruits. Therefore, the willingness to manage the resource generates new opportunities for the conservation and sustainable management of the buriti, thus ensuring the supply of demand.

We consider that the changes in the composition of bat species in the face of anthropic impacts, could show its potential in terms of indicator species. Therefore, identify these species in disturbed habitats using bats has become the purpose of this study. We applied the mist network method for 20 nights in two types of habitats in the Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve: Disturbed forests, corresponding to crops and natural forests without alteration. During each night, 16 mist nets were installed, active from 18:00 to 24:00 hours and reviewed every 30 minutes. We captured 451 individuals that corresponded to 37 species applying an effort of 1936 h/net. We recorded species indicating disturbed forests (p=0.0003), the most noteworthy being Sturnira tildae, followed by Carollia perspicillata, Sturnira lilium, Carollia brevicauda and Carollia benkeithi. The most abundant species in both types of forests was Artibeus planirostris and probably the most important in the natural regeneration processes of the forests studied. According to the food guild, the greatest wealth and abundance of frugivorous bats is found in disturbed forests (p=0.001). According to the results, the bats constitute a good taxonomic group to be applied in the method of states of conservation of biodiversity in Amazonian forests; which would be attractive and generate an impact of ecological, economic, social and scientific cost benefit.

In this work, the vertical stratification in Pristimantis species was studied in a remanescent forest dominated by bamboo in the southwest region of the Amazon. The field work was carried out between December 2012 and May 2013. The differences in height of the perch were analyzed interspecifically, and intraspecific in relation to the structure of the vegetation. A total of four species were recorded, Pristimantis fenestratus being the most abundant and occurring in all sampling units. There was significant interspecific difference in perch height, as well as between adults and juveniles. For P. fenestratus, there was no differentiation of segregation between sampling units. The structure of the vegetation did not explain the preference of heights; however, leaf litter depth influenced its vertical stratification. More data and occurrences are needed in all sampling units to infer better explanations.

The primary intact forests of the Peruvian Amazon act as a carbon sink: a key ecosystem service of international importance. This sink has been quantified as 0.54 Mg C ha-1 year-1 (1990-2017) for the intact Amazonian forest in the protected areas and associated buffer zones of Peru. In other words, the conservation of intact forests in protected areas has helped to remove 9.6 million tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere per year, which is equivalent to approximately 85% of the emissions from fossil fuel combustion in Peru during 2012. It is necessary to include this carbon sink in the national inventory of greenhouse gas emissions for two reasons. Firstly, because it is a an important flux, it would help for estimating the carbon balance of Peru more accurately. Secondly, it would strengthen the need to maintain the integrity of these forests, for their role both as a stock and sink of carbon and for their biological diversity. The provision of this service as a sink can only be assured with effective and adaptive management of the protected areas of Peru. Reporting of this environmental service at a national level should be implemented through long-term monitoring of the carbon dynamics and impact of climate change on these forests via the RAINFOR (Amazon Forest Network) network of permanent forest plots and the MonANPeru project. The establishment of this monitoring system would allow the development of the finanancial mechanisms to close the funding gap and achieve sustainable conservation of the forests of the protected area network of Peru

The type of soil has an important influence on the availability and absorption of cadmium by the cacao plant (Theobroma cacao L.), in particular the pH, the % of clay and the amount of Mg2+ and Zn present in the soil. Therefore, the objective was to measure the influence of soil pH on the absorption levels of cadmium in CCN-51 cocoa beans in the Leoncio Prado - Huánuco province, for which 20 agricultural parcels were selected from the members of Cooperativa Cacao Alto Huallaga, which complied with all the norms and techniques of organic production. 20 soil samples and 20 samples of almonds were analyzed. The results show that the average pH of the soil was 5.68; the cadmium available in the soil was 0.32 µg g-1 and the cadmium content in the cocoa almonds of the 20 samples analyzed yielded 0.98 µg g-1. The investigation concludes that the values of cadmium in almonds are above the maximum level allowed by the European Union and a negative correlation was found between the pH of the soil and the content of cadmium in cocoa almonds (R2 = 0.0522), not finding a dependence of cadmium in almonds, with respect to the pH of the soil, this requires further research to determine the factors involved in this process.
