Coping with the Dynamics of Open, Social Media on Mobile Devices with Mobile Facets

When traveling to a foreign city or wanting to know what is happening in one's home area, users today often search and explore dierent social media platforms. In order to provide dierent social media sources in an integrated manner on a mobile device, we have developed Mobile Facets. Mobile Facets allows for the faceted, interactive search and exploration of social media on a touchscreen mobile phone. The social media is queried live from dierent data sources and professional content sources like DBpedia, a Semantic Web version of Wikipedia, the event directories Eventful and Upcoming, geo-located Flickr photos, and GeoNames. Mobile Facets provides an integrated retrieval and interactive exploration of resources from these social media sources such as places, persons, organizations, and events. One does not know in advance how many facets the application will receive from such sources in a specic contextual situation and how many data items for the facets will be provided. Thus, the user interface of Mobile Facets is to be designed to cope with this dynamics of social media

    An Unobtrusive Semantic Health-Monitoring Medium

We present a generalized data mining approach to the detection of health problems and falls in the elderly for the purpose of prolonging their autonomous living. The input for the data mining algorithm is the output of the motion-capture system. The approach is general since it uses a k-nearestneighbor algorithm and dynamic time warping with the time series of all the measurable joint angles for the attributes instead of a more specific approach with medically defined attributes. Even though the presented approach is more general and can be used to differentiate other types of activities or health problems, it achieves very high classification accuracies, similar to the more specific approaches described in the literature

Edoo: An Online Match-making Portal for Educational Content Production

Although masses of electronic learning materials are being regularly created for e-learning purposes, there is still difficult for a teacher to find a suitable material for a particular teaching situation. Instead of adapting lessons to suit the available learning content, the teachers should actively adjust the learning content itself to make it suit their needs for use in the class. Despite having good ideas, not all teachers are capable of creating an attractive learning content, or even just customising it due to the lack of programming knowledge and inadequate ICT-usage skills. Our goal is to bring together two distinct communities, teachers and programmers, to work together, share ideas, and brainstorm, with the common goal to benefit from this mashing in providing useful materials for enhancing learning experience. The portal is aimed as a meeting place for teachers with innovative ideas for new e-content and technology buffs wishing to contribute their knowledge to common good

Abstract. Digital and interactive technologies are becoming increasingly embedded in everyday lives of people around the world. Application of technologies such as real-time, context-aware, and interactive technologies; augmented and immersive realities; social media; and location-based services has been particularly evident in urban envi-ronments where technological and sociocultural infrastructures enable easier deploy-ment and adoption as compared to non-urban areas. There has been growing consumer demand for new forms of experiences enabled through technologies. The focus is on ambient media services, applications, and technologies that promote people’s engage-ment in creating and re-creating liveliness in urban environments, particularly through arts, culture, and gastronomic experiences. The workshop takes a multidisciplinary and future oriented approach, and welcomes participants from diverse disciplinary domains for open discussions about technological, sociocultural, and content-related aspects of ambient media services that support people’s engagement in (re)creating their urban environments into a livelier place through art, cultural, and gastronomic experiences2: QoE and analysis of videos related to art, culture, and gastronomy and urban cities Ubiquitous environments and interfaces in lively city environments Intelligent appliances and gadgets supporting art, culture and gastronomy Multimedia learning for activities around smart city environments Locative media and context sensor technologies Artistic, cultural, and gastronomic services; Socio-economic studies, business models, advertising, and marketing; Applied ambient media technologies in city environments; Engagement and persuasion in smart environments
