CRUCIALLY IMPORTANT DISPOSITION OF FLUORESCENT PINK ROSE PETALS IN SPACE

Computer technology and ambient media are playing an important role in contemporary art. They enable artist to implement a new approach in integration of audience into an art work, and vice versa. The content of the artwork is enriched with completely different meaning. The spectator becomes not only the legitimate part of an artwork; he is also its co-creator. When I create ambience or artistic installations, I am never doing it with any kind of predomination. I don’t think beforehand. It is not my intention to solve any problem, to point to a problem or its solution, or to comment or judge anything. Everything is perfect just the way it is, anyway. My only motif and intention is to absolutely enjoy, and to share this feeling and emotion of joy and fun. I simply follow my instinct, my intuition and my bliss. Ideas come spontaneously, with absolute joy. I feel that good artwork consists of two parts. One is small, the one that is observed by senses, or eyes, ears, touch. This is an initial impulse for the consumer; it is not wise if this part is descriptive, too obvious, because it would distract another, bigger part of an artwork. This part is happening in spectators mind and heart, this is an invisible part

A flock of sparrows in the city of Ghent: a multidisciplinary case study

This article elaborates on the deployment of multipurpose, aesthetic smart objects, called ‘The Sparrows’ in the city of Ghent (Belgium, Europe).  The goals of the integration of the sparrows in the city were two-fold (1) augmenting the social engagement of citizens using a playful aesthetic smart artifact, and (2) exploring the ambient interaction zones with smart artifacts in a city context.  In this article we present the case study carried out on the integration of the smart artifacts in the city and we describe the experiences of the involved citizens with the sparrows and the embedded ambient interactions

Unobtrusive Personalized Services in Ambient Media Environments

In the age of ambient media, people are surrounded by lots of physical objects (media objects) for rendering the digital world in the natural environment. These media objects should interact with users in a way that is not disturbing for them. To address this issue, this work presents a design strategy for augmenting the world around us with personalized services capable of adjusting its obtrusiveness level (i.e., the extent to which each service intrudes the user's mind) by using the appropriate media objects for each situation

Reshaping Knowledge Tools Using Social Media Solutions

Nowadays, there is more information on any given topic that anyone can consume. Individuals would like a simple way to discover the topics that interest them most. On the other hand, media companies want to engage individuals by delivering the news that are the most interesting for them. Our paper focuses on the possibility to use various social media and traditional news channels for automatic generation of interactive social media news stream. Social media are in a way a perfect disseminator of news: “Our message is simple and direct: if it doesn’t spread, it’s dead.†[1]. There are already solutions that are focusing on the ways to help individuals to discover the messages they are interested in. Our idea is not focused on individuals, but on using collective intelligence and detecting important messages from huge amount of social network data and traditional news data, and spreading these messages through interactive social media news streams into digital universe [2]. We propose a network presentation and a network model of spreadable media content as a basis of new application using the notion of persistent context and apply perpetual analytics against all prior messages, where every incoming message is evaluated against all previous messages. Messages can be also delivered to an individual user from social network depending on the details of user’s engagement with media content. The insight into users’ social media data will also allow us to measure and perpetually infer the dynamic structure of the network model. Proposed concept can be applied in media companies as a dissemination tool to individual users. On the other hand, company as an individual user can use proposed concept as a knowledge tool. In the world of widely distributed knowledge, companies cannot afford to base their research and development only on their own knowledge and research. By using the knowledge tool a company can collect, classify, interpret and exploit information from unstructured multimedia sources yielding structured knowledge and information about developments in its business area. This approach could be especially beneficial for research intensive SMEs searching for cooperation with large public universities or other research institutions

Sustainability and sustainable urban environments are one of the goals of various research agendas and initiatives as e.g. the Regions of Climate Actions (R20). SAME 2013 devotes to the challenge, how information management and systems can support sustainable communities in their regional settings. This workshop focuses on the development of a research agenda around the wider topic of how smart media and automated systems can support the larger context of sustainability for communities with the help of information systems, smart media, and automated systems. The workshop defines a research agenda within this particular context, and especially devotes to the investigation of opened research issues how ubiquitous and pervasive computation can be utilized to create sustainable communities. Energy conservation and saving are one of the key-words SAME 2013 will devote its focus: sustainable cities – sustainable community – sustainable energy – sustainable culture supported by smart information systems, smart media, and fully automated systems. Smart electronics and infrastructure will be one major component in creating a green city environment. Within the scope of this workshop, the goal is to investigate smart technologies, policies, and projects that are devoting to the issue of sustainable communities to create a better living experience
