Sill Mansion, Cuyahoga Falls
No full textSill Mansion in Cuyahoga Falls. The limestone Sill Mansion was built by Elisha Noyes Sill. Sill was born on January 6, 1801, the son of Doctor Elisha N. and Chloe Allyn of Windsor, Connecticut. He settled in Cuyahoga Falls and married Elizabeth Newberry on October 6, 1824. He was a member of the state senate of Ohio, and a fund commissioner of the canal and public works for Ohio. Elisha Noyes Sill was the uncle of Edward Rowland Sill, a poet and teacher. Edward Rowland Sill was the son of Theodore Sill and Elizabeth Rowland. His father died in 1853 and Edward Rowland Sill was sent to live with Elisha Noyes Sill in Cuyahoga Falls. He attended a preparatory school and Yale before moving to California. He later married his cousin, Elizabeth Newberry Sill, in 1867. Health concerns forced him to return to Cuyahoga Falls in 1883, where he continued his literary work. Edward Rowland Sill died in 1887 and his uncle, Elisha Noyes Sill died in 1888
