Contributions from the clinic of activity to teacher’ training: understanding the school context
The purpose of this work is to present some of the contributions of the Clinic of Activity developed by Yves Clot and his research approach through filming, the Autoconfrontation, highlighting its potential for teacher education, taking into consideration that the research of teaching activity is developed in classrooms. This procedure allows teachers to analyze their work, evaluating their results, in order to reveal the elements that are present in the “real activity”. For Clot, “real activity” is not the only element that is at stake when the worker performs an activity. The “real of activity” is part too, broadening the concept of activity, involving all planned actions that could not be performed. This concept can be a powerful tool in the process of teacher education.
This extensive essay revolves around some unpublished documents about the ambitious and pioneering attempt to establish a permanent company in the ‘enlightened’ duchy of Parma (1770-1771). What emerges is an original cross-section of the Italian theatrical life in the second half of the 18th century that highlights the ins and outs, the relationship between politics and theatre, the most outstanding companies of the time, the rules of engagement, the profiles of actors and actresses – already established or in training – for the first time described above rhetoric and anecdotal tendencies
The “REDUCE” project: definition of a methodology for quantifying food waste by means of targeted waste composition analysis
“REDUCE” (Research, Education, Communication: an integrated approach for food waste prevention) is a biennial project on food waste funded by the Italian Ministry of the Environment and managed by the DISTAL Department at the University of Bologna, with four partners. This paper focuses on a specific research activity related to the definition of a methodology for the quantification of food waste by means of waste composition analysis. This methodology implies the physical separation, weighing, and classification of food waste found in representative samples of municipal waste entering the treatment facilities. The objectives of the research activity, the main steps of the methodology, and some preliminary results are presented in the paper
Evaluating the college of Education Program in Iraq-Baghdad and Italy-Florence in terms of ESL and TESOL Standards
This study is an attempt to evaluate the College of Education Programs in Baghdad (Iraq) and the Department of Sciences of Education and Psychology in Florence (Italy) in terms of ESL (English as a Second Language) and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) standards. The program emphasizes the need for improvement in TEPs (Teacher Education Programs), which are generally not given due attention. Teacher education programs need to cover a wide range of related aspects and prepare future teachers to handle the challenges in teaching in the 21st century. The issues related to TEPs are studied by the researcher from various perspectives and the performance in both the countries namely Italy and Baghdad seem to be satisfactory on the whole. The results are better than one or the other in the different domains. Useful suggestions and recommendations are added by the researcher at the end which pave the way for future studies.
Methods to facilitate learning processes in different educational contexts
The purpose of this paper is to explore the facilitation process of learning and teaching in a university bachelor’s degree program L-19 for educators and trainers in Italy. Facilitation is seen as a participatory student-centered teaching approach to promote interactive methods among students. The paper begins by describing participatory methods and strategies and related challenges concerning the professional work of the educator-trainer. The second part of the paper describes the implications that such methods have in practical educational and training contexts. The paper concludes with a discussion about the learning outcomes based on the context in which the educator-trainer is called to act professionally. The paper directs the educators and faculty towards a constructive alignment of the teaching methods and assessment strategies for the achievement of greater learning outcomes.
Rehabilitation of the Hiriya Landfill, Tel Aviv
Hiriya, a closed domestic waste landfill, is situated on the wide river plain in the southeast of Tel Aviv. The impressive landmark is part of the future Ariel Sharon Park. It is getting rehabilitated since 2004. Aim is to preserve its captivating silhouette and to develop the landscape of and around the mountain by using construction techniques that take into consideration the waste tip’s instability and make use of local materials whilst incorporating the region’s traditional land uses and specific climatic conditions. The artificial appearance of the landscape and its origins become a part of a positive experience of the site – a convergence of nature and culture
This paper presents a few experiences implemented in Media Valle dell’Aterno (near L’Aquila) after the 2009 earthquake. Once described the identity characters of the context, it tells how, over the recent years, visions contrasting the dominant centre-periphery development model are emerging, and an opposite geography takes shape originating from a recognition of territorial value. In particular, we focus on experiences that return to agriculture its dual function of producing goods and reproducing cultural values, highlighting how such experiences are creating a sort of coordination tool apt to put naturalistic tourism within a large socio-economic scenario connected to territorial resources
For the area of Tre Fiumi (near Stazzema in Lucca district) the 2014 Apuan Alps Park Plan schedules the implementation of an Integrated Local Project aimed at defining an consistent series of actions for territorial enhancement, in particular suggesting the conversion and redevelopment of the area through a restoration of disused plots and buildings due to the cessation of marble mining operations. Laying in a very evocative landscape, Tre Fiumi holds a strategic position in the Park: isolated in the heart of these mountains, it represents at the same time a crossroad of Versilia, Massa and Garfagnana. A graduation thesis in Architectural design at the University of Florence chose to follow these planning guide lines trying to become an opportunity of reflection, hopefully a fertile one, on a certain way to do with territories. The aim of the project is the rebirth of the site as the new Centre of the Apuan Alps Park, first step of a series of possible regeneration and new use projects for a number of close areas with great potential but currently degraded
