Pozzi Antonia

In her short life, she dedicated herself intensely to poetry, photography, teaching, and social commitment. Her varied work has recently been the subject of many editorial initiatives and critical attention. Regarding her reflection on religion, it is marked by a distance from any confessionalism, but also by an openness to transcendence, which in her letters and poems manifests as a sensitivity to the Infinite: as she herself expressed, the divine, once considered “an aestheticism,” ultimately appeared to her as “a supreme calm,” “a crystal-clear freshness that permeates my entire life and makes my suffering gentle, my path dreamy, and death clear and friendly.”

Silone Ignazio

Ignazio Silone, the pseudonym of Ignazio Tranquilli, was a writer and political thinker who combined socialism and Christianity from a libertarian perspective. After joining the Communist Party and breaking away from it in 1930, he rediscovered and reinterpreted his Christian heritage in a mission for redemption and social justice, also denouncing the oppressive nature of institutions that, from political parties to churches, often end up undermining individual intent in favor of the will of the apparatus. In his writings, particularly in L’avventura d’un povero cristiano (1968), he explored the conflict between conscience and power and proposed a Christianity outside the church (he described himself as a “socialist without a party and a Christian without a church”).

Tilgher Adriano

After an initial approach to Fichtean idealism, Adriano Tilgher developed a conception of philosophy as an irreconcilable tension between moral options and worldviews, rejecting any systematic totality. On a religious level, for Tilgher, the fundamental problem of every religion is the problem of evil: in the face of it, while Buddhism has proposed to escape the world, Christianity "has always regarded the world, life, and society as fields of battle and preparation for heaven." However, traditional religious solutions, including Christianity, are, Tilgher asserts, in serious crisis due to the weakening of belief in the mythical framework that supported them. Yet, the theme of evil remains no less pressing than in the past, and the author is extremely critical of political ideologies that have sought to replace religious traditions, which have not resolved the issue but rather exacerbated the extent of evil.

Zamboni Giuseppe

Giuseppe Zamboni, a Catholic priest, develops his own epistemological proposal of “critical realism,” based on concrete experiences of substantial self-perception by the self; to this epistemological position, he connects the metaphysical stance that the de facto existence remains, de iure, insufficient to exist, and thus refers to the Self-Sufficient, Independent, Unconditional, Necessary. Zamboni taught philosophy of knowledge at the Catholic University of Milan from 1921 to 1932, the year he was dismissed due to disagreements with A. Gemelli and F. Olgiati regarding the role of critical realism and the precedence, professed by the Veronese philosopher, of philosophy of knowledge over metaphysics, which cost him the accusation of phenomenalism. He spent his last years in his hometown, where a philosophical circle formed around him, the legacy of which continues at a Center at the local University.

Can participatory processes contribute to the sustainability of cultural and creative ecosystems? The case of the creative people and places (CPP) programme (England)
Purpose: Participatory and co-creative processes are now widespread in various sectors of our society, including the cultural and creative industries. The study aims to examine their contribution to the sustainability of cultural ecosystems and their integration within cultural policies. It explores best practices and emerging challenges, along with the impacts, both positive and negative, on members and communities, thus informing the development of sound cultural policies.
Design/methodology/approach: Adopting the single case-study methodology, combining multiple data sources, including semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentary analysis, we discuss the case of Appetite, a project carried out in Stoke-on-Trent (UK) within the framework of Creative People and Places (CPP), a ten-year audience development programme targeting areas of England with below-average cultural engagement.
Findings: The paper highlights good practices and critical issues in applying participatory methods to large-scale programmes in the cultural sector. It reveals that effective participatory processes can lead to greater community involvement and sustainability of cultural projects, but also highlights significant obstacles such as resource allocation and stakeholder alignment.
Practical and social implication: The study emphasises the significance and intricacy of implementing participatory processes in contemporary cultural policy discourse, particularly in view of global calls for more inclusive and sustainable cultural development strategies. The study provides guidance to policymakers, cultural practitioners, and community leaders on the application of participatory practices, addressing benefits, potential challenges, and limitations.
Originality of the study: This research contributes to the existing literature by offering a detailed qualitative analysis of a long-term, large-scale, participatory project in the UK cultural sector
CREATIVE INDUSTRIES AND THE INNOVATIVE URBAN MILIEU: THE CASE OF THE METROPOLITAN CITY OF ROME
Purpose. In large cities creative industries tend to geographically concentrate. The purpose of this paper is to empirically test the hypothesis that this geographic concentration derives from the benefits on the innovative urban milieu.
Design/methodology/approach. A spatial regression model is estimated using as dependent variable the number of creative firms per census block in the Metropolitan city of Rome. Empirical results show that the estimated coefficient of the spatially lagged dependent variable is significantly positive, indicating that the number of creative firms in a census block is influenced by the number of creative firms in neighboring blocks. This enables to explore the conditions accounting for the concentration of creative industries.
Practical and Social implications. This paper suggests that knowledge externalities influencing the creative firm’s spatial distribution can be interpreted, in an urban scale, in terms of local spatial spillovers, which take the form of spatial dependence. The empirical analysis revealed the existence of a spontaneous creative geography within the metropolitan city of Rome, which is important to further analyse and interpret, if we want to look at the creative clustering from a policy perspective. Creative clusters represent a good opportunity for local governments to catch up with innovation and entrepreneurship policies therefore they need evidence about the existence and the potential role of creative clusters, if they are to encouraging creative industrial growth in particular places.
Originality of the study. The paper aims to fill the gap between the regional and the urban scale of analysis in empirical studies on creative industries.
Bridging awareness and booking behaviour: a critical analysis of sustainability and environmental certifications in Italian tourism
Purpose. This study aims to explore the influence of green certifications and eco-friendly practices on holiday decisions among Italian tourists, examining whether these environmental credentials genuinely impact travel choices in the increasingly sustainability-conscious tourism sector.
Design/methodology/approach. The methodology employed consisted of structured quantitative survey instruments administered to over 300 Italian respondents. Analysis included descriptive and inferential statistics, structural equation modelling (SEM) to investigate underlying causal relationships, and cluster analysis to identify distinct consumer segments.
Findings. The results of the study demonstrate the pivotal function of tourism and services in the economic development of peripheral regions. There is a notable interest among young people in the advancement of these areas. Nevertheless, the analysis reveals critical concerns pertaining to mobility, inadequate infrastructure, and a paucity of cultural events and networking prospects. The aspiration to reside in these areas is frequently impeded by the perception of limited employment and business prospects.
Practical and Social implications. The findings highlight a significant gap between the respondents\u27 support for eco-friendly practices and booking behaviours. Despite broad sustainability awareness, several travellers lack a clear understanding of environmental certifications. Tourism businesses need to enhance communication about their environmental initiatives, and regulatory bodies should reassess their strategies for promoting sustainable tourism. Effective consumer education and clear communication of the benefits of sustainability certifications are pivotal.
Originality of the study. This research breaks new ground by examining the dual facets of awareness levels and the influence of sustainability certifications on holiday choices. It identifies critical areas for improvement, such as better consumer education, streamlined certification communication, and targeted engagement strategies, providing valuable insights for hospitality businesses to leverage sustainability as a competitive advantage
Youth, entrepreneurship, and tourism in peripheral areas
Purpose. The present study analyses the role of young people in entrepreneurship and tourism in peripheral Italian areas, with a particular focus on the Marche region. The objective of the study is to understand the degree of attachment of young people to the territory, their perceptions of local resources, and the barriers that hinder their active involvement in the tourism and entrepreneurial development of these areas.
Design/methodology/approach. The research is grounded in a quantitative survey conducted through a structured questionnaire, administered to a sample of 313 young individuals (aged 18-35) residing in the Basso Appennino Pesarese and Ancona area (ABPA). The analysis explores four key areas: development priorities, mobility models, community involvement, and the enhancement of the local tourism offer.
The study provides valuable indications for the formulation of public policies and the development of local strategies, suggesting actions to enhance infrastructure, promote youth entrepreneurship and integrate local communities and tourism. The strengthening of social networks and the active involvement of young people are identified as pivotal elements for the economic and social sustainability of peripheral regions.
Originality of the study. The present paper makes a contribution to the ongoing debate on the development of peripheral areas. It achieves this by highlighting the active role of young people in the local economy, as demonstrated through tourism and entrepreneurship. The empirical analysis it presents offers novel perspectives for understanding territorial dynamics in marginal contexts
