High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is currently the latest video coding standard available on the market, and it is able to offer up to twice the coding efficiency, in the range of 50 bitrate reduction for the same video quality, of the previous standard, namely H 264 Advanced Video Coding (AVC).High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is currently the latest video coding standard available on the market, and it is able to offer up to twice the coding efficiency, in the range of 50% bitrate reduction for the same video quality, of the previous standard, namely H.264/Advanced Video Coding (AVC). HEVC was standardized in 2013 for videos up to a resolution of 2K. However, the popularity of 4K videos is increasing due to the growing use of video-on-demand platforms. Therefore, the ITU-T Video Coding Expert Group (VCEG) and the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Expert Group (MPEG) created the Joint Video Exploration Team (JVET) in 2015 to design the future video coding technology under the Joint Exploration Model (JEM), which its latest version achieves an improvement in coding efficiency of 30%, but at a high cost in terms of computational complexity (10×) with respect to HEVC. The new video standard is expected to be ready in 2020, so it is necessary to find efficient mechanisms to convert current content to the new format adopted in JEM. In this regard, our proposal consists in a probabilistic classifier based on Naïve-Bayes that enables the prediction of the splitting decision at the first quadtree level in JEM, reducing the computational complexity of the transcoding process from HEVC to this new standard. The experimental results show a good trade-off between coding efficiency and complexity compared with the anchor transcoder, obtaining a time reduction up to 12.71% at the expense of low coding efficiency penalties in the configurations evaluated

Potential of Different Natural Antioxidant Substances to Inhibit the 1-Hydroxyethyl Radical in SO2-Free Wines

    Get PDF
The potential of different natural antioxidants to inhibit the 1-hydroxyethyl radical formation in SO2-free wines was analyzed by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). Chitosan, glutathione, inactive dry yeast, oak and grape seed extracts, and ascorbic acid were tested in white and red wines. The ability of these substances to prevent the formation of acetaldehyde after the Fenton reaction and the oxygen consumption capacity were measured. Ascorbic acid was the antioxidant substance that offered higher percentages of 1-hydroxyethyl radical inhibition at 30 min of reaction. However, wines with ascorbic acid showed higher concentrations of acetaldehyde after the Fenton reaction. Grape seed extract and chitosan provided higher percentages of radical inhibition in red wine than those in white wine, in contrast to the inactive dry yeast that only produced radical inhibition in white wine. Although oak extract did not produce changes in the 1-hydroxyethyl radical, wines with that extract had lower concentrations of acetaldehyde

As an alternative to the direct instructional model, Metzler proposed a range of pedagogical models that include second generation models such as teaching games for understanding (TGfU) and sport education (SE). These pedagogical models have key design features that can promote high levels of autonomous motivation for both boys and girls. Consequently, the purpose of this study was to investigate the motivational outcomes of elementary boys and girls as they participated in an invasion game unit through two pedagogical models: a hybrid TGfU/SE unit or a direct instruction unit. Participants were 292 elementary school students (mean age ¼ 10.41, standard deviation age ¼ 0.49), who were taught through a hybrid TGfU/SE unit or a more traditional teacher-centred format within a pre-intervention/post-intervention quasi-experimental design. The hybrid unit was designed according to the characteristics of SE, while learning tasks were designed to integrate the pedagogical principles of TGfU. A 2 (pedagogical model) 2 (test-time) 2 (gender) multivariate analysis of variance was performed to detect between-groups and within-group differences. Significant differences in student motivation were observed for both boys and girls who participated in the hybrid TGfU/SE unit in both analyses across all motivational outcomes. Despite the existence of social stereotypes in terms of physical activity, teachers’ use of hybrid TGfU/SE units promotes an autonomy-supportive, inclusive, and equitable learning environment where all students, regardless of their gender and/or content focus of the unit and have opportunities to increase their engage ment, enjoyment, and social interactions within physical educatio

What content to post? Evaluating the effectiveness of Facebook communications in destinations

    No full text
This study analyzes the marketing effectiveness of the social media posts of destination management organizations (DMOs) based on message format and content and the moderator effect of its message appeal in order to understand the users’ responses to destinations’ social media posts. The paper also discusses the most appropriate social media message strategy for Facebook campaigns for DMOs. The methodology is based on the content analysis of a sample of 3303 Facebook posts from 12 English and Spanish heritage city destinations. A Poisson regression was used to test the marketing effectiveness of the posts based on the number of Facebook reactions and message characteristics. Considering the particularities of each country, the results provide insights for DMOs for their social media message strategies. The results show that emotional messages tend to be more effective than informational messages in many cases, and several recommendations for Facebook usage are developed for the management of destinations through social media

Electro-disinfection with BDD-electrodes featuring PEM technology

This work reports the use of a special PEM-electrolyzer equipped with diamond anodes for the highly-efficient disinfection of water preventing the formation of chlorates and perchlorates. The cell is a MIKROZON® cell manufactured by CONDIAS (Itzehoe, Germany) with a very short hydraulic residence time (0.008 s for 90 L h−1, which is the maximum allowable flowrate) and a polymer exchange membrane electrolyte that separates the anode and cathode into a membrane-electrode assembly. This cell can avoid the formation of significant concentrations of chlorates because of the very short contact time between the water and the electrode that prevents the oxidation of hypochlorite by hydroxyl radicals. In this paper, we report tests in which we demonstrate this outstanding performance even in the worst conditions (low flowrate) and we also explain the differences observed in the operation in continuous and discontinuous mode with the same water
