Development of full ceramic electrodes for lithium-ion batteries via desktop-fused filament fabrication and further sintering
The fabrication of energy storage devices and their components via 3D printing involves unquestionable benefits in this field compared to traditional manufacturing processes such as doctor blading or die pressing, providing wide versatility for the development of electrodes with high surface area or the production of devices with geometries that fit specific product designs and maximize the amount of active material within the systems. Among these technologies, fused filament fabrication (FFF) represents a promising and low-cost method to fabricate lithium-ion batteries with tailored geometries. However, the high amount of polymer often included in the electrodes produced via FFF involves important capacity limitations for their use as functional electrodes. In this work, we report for the first time the fabrication of full ceramic LTO anode and LCO cathode electrodes via FFF 3D printing of composite filaments and further sintering, including a thorough study of the micro and macrostructure, phase stability, electrical conductivity, and electrochemical performance of the printed electrodes. With this strategy, 3D printed LTO and LCO electrodes were produced exhibiting similar electrical conductivity values to those of uniaxially pressed ceramic pellets and displayed 168 and 129 mAh g-1, i.e., 96% and 94% of their theoretical capacities, respectively (considering the conventional insertion/deinsertion of 3 Li+ for LTO and 0.5 Li+ for LCO)

paciente y a la mejora de la atención que presta, se hace necesario el uso de herramientas que nos permitan recopilar información sobre la experiencia personal del paciente respecto a su proceso asistencial, aproximarnos a sus expectativas, y detectar aquellos aspectos que sugieren mejorables, para poder así implementar mejoras en la gestión. Conocer, analizar y mejorar la experiencia del paciente en un servicio de salud, debe ser objetivo clave en las organizaciones sanitarias
Graph Theory for Primary School Students with High Skills in Mathematics
Graph theory is a powerful representation and problem-solving tool, but it is not included in present curriculum at school levels. In this study we perform a didactic proposal based in graph theory, to provide students useful and motivational tools for problem solving. The participants, who were highly skilled in mathematics, worked on map coloring, Eulerian cycles, star polygons and other related topics. The program included six sessions in a workshop format and four creative sessions where participants invented their own mathematical challenges. Throughout the experience they applied a wide range of strategies to solve problems, such as look for a pattern, counting strategies or draw the associated graph, among others. In addition, they created as challenges the same type of problems posed in workshops. We conclude that graph theory successfully increases motivation of participants towards mathematics and allows the appearance and enforcement of problem-solving strategies

Ya no es una novedad la aplicación de las técnicas cualitativas de investigación al campo de la salud. En un estudio clásico, revisando los trabajos realizados con
técnicas cualitativas en el ámbito español entre 1997 y 2002, constatamos un incremento en su uso, pasando del 7% en 1997 al 34% en 2002 (Mira et al., 2004).
En la práctica es difícil diferenciar algunas de las técnicas grupales, principalmente el grupo de discusión del grupo focal, empleándose ambos términos de manera indistinta
en la mayor parte de los contextos. Así en las traducciones de una lengua otra aparecen como sinónimos el grupo de discusión, el “focus group” y, en ocasiones, hasta las entrevistas en profundidad grupales. Las diferencias parecen estar más en la concepción
teórica más que en la práctica real. Las principales diferencias son: la estructuración del discurso (el grupo focal sería más estructurado en torno a cuestiones de interés, frente al de discusión que estaría más centrado en las intervenciones de los participantes) y la conducción del grupo; en el grupo focal hay mayor intervención por parte del moderador, mientras que el grupo de discusión suele ser casi un gestor de las intervenciones (Callejo, 2001). En ocasiones se ha postulado que el grupo focal es un grupo de discusión, guiado por un conjunto de preguntas diseñadas cuidadosamente con un objetivo particular (Aigneren, 2006). An Environmental Approach to Understanding the Expansion of Future Vineyards: Case Study of Soil Developed on Alluvial Sediments
The importance of soil properties in wine grape production is generally treated as secondary to climate and canopy management. This study was undertaken to characterize and classify a singularsoil resource for a vineyard in a traditional viticultural region: Castilla-La Mancha, central Spain. The soil under study was described and sampled using standard soil survey procedures as outlined byFAO, and served as a pedologic window for Gleyic Fluvisol (Calcaric, Humic), according to the FAO System, or Fluventic Haploxerept, according to the Soil Taxonomy System
Microbial diversity and activity assessment in a 100-year-old lead mine.
Mining activities frequently leave a legacy of residues that remain in the area for long periods causing the pollution of surroundings. We studied on a 100 year-old mine, the behavior of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) and their ecotoxicological impact on activity and diversity of microorganisms. The PTEs contamination assessment allowed the classification of the materials as highly (reference- and contaminated-samples) and very highly polluted (illegal spill of olive mill wastes (OMW), tailings, and dumps). OMW presented the lowest enzymatic activities while tailings and dumps had low dehydrogenase and arylsulfatase activities. All the a-diversity indices studied were negatively impacted in dumps. Tailings had lower Chao1 and PD whole tree values as compared to those of reference-samples. ß-diversity analysis showed similar bacterial community composition for reference- and contaminated-samples, significantly differing from that of tailings and dumps. The relative abundance of Gemmatimonadetes, Bacteroidetes, and Verrucomicrobia was lower in OMW, tailings, and dumps as compared to reference-samples. Fifty-seven operational taxonomic units were selected as responsible for the changes observed between samples. This study highlights that assessing the relationship between physicochemical properties and microbial diversity and activity gives clues about ongoing regulating processes that can be helpful for stakeholders to define an appropriate management strategy
Additive manufacturing of 316L stainless-steel structures using fused filament fabrication technology: mechanical and geometric properties
Purpose: Fused filament fabrication (FFF) technique using metal filled filaments in combination with debinding and sintering steps can be a cost-effective alternative for laser-based powder bed fusion processes. The mechanical behaviour of FFF-metal materials is highly dependent on the processing parameters, filament quality and adjusted post-processing steps. In addition, the microstructural material properties and geometric characteristics are inherent to the manufacturing process. The purpose of this study is to characterize the mechanical and geometric performance of three-dimensional (3-D) printed FFF 316 L metal components manufactured by a low-cost desktop 3-D printer. The debinding and sintering processes are carried out using the BASF catalytic debinding process in combination with the BASF 316LX Ultrafuse filament. Special attention is paid on the effects of build orientation and printing strategy of the FFF-based technology on the tensile and geometric performance of the 3-D printed 316 L metal specimens.
Design/methodology/approach: This study uses a toolset of experimental analysis techniques [metallography and scanning electron microcope (SEM)] to characterize the effect of microstructure and defects on the material properties under tensile testing. Shrinkage and the resulting porosity of the 3-D printed 316 L stainless steel sintered samples are also analysed. The deformation behaviour is investigated for three different build orientations. The tensile test curves are further correlated with the damage surface using SEM images and metallographic sections to present grain deformation during the loading progress. Mechanical properties are directly compared to other works in the field and similar additive manufacturing (AM) and Metal Injection Moulding (MIM) manufacturing alternatives from the literature.
Findings: It has been shown that the effect of build orientation was of particular significance on the mechanical and geometric performance of FFF-metal 3-D printed samples. In particular, Flat and On-edge samples showed an average increase in tensile performance of 21.7% for the tensile strength, 65.1% for the tensile stiffness and 118.3% for maximum elongation at fracture compared to the Upright samples. Furthermore, it has been able to manufacture near-dense 316 L austenitic stainless steel components using FFF. These properties are comparable to those obtained by other metal conventional processes such as MIM process.
Originality/value: 316L austenitic stainless steel components using FFF technology with a porosity lower than 2% were successfully manufactured. The presented study provides more information regarding the dependence of the mechanical, microstructural and geometric properties of FFF 316 L components on the build orientation and printing strategy
New insights about the electrochemical production of ozone
Ozone is a rather attractive oxidant, it is very efficient in the oxidation of pollutants and in the killing of pathogens and does not generate any hazardous waste during its use. Its generation has been constantly sought in an effective way, focusing on obtaining high concentrations of ozone at the lowest possible cost. Recently, electrochemical production of ozone show advantages over conventional corona discharge generation, since this technology do not need very high voltages, feeding oxygen or pure air or dissolving the ozone into wastewater to be treated. However, it is still at early development stage and there is still a long way to reach the high technology readiness levels needed to complete its value chain. Equipment considerations and operation conditions are the key points that need to be understood in order to increase efficiently. Recent novelties in the state of the art of research are summarized in this work
