Towards Integrated Planning: A Case Study of Coordination Challenges and S&OP Implementation in the Marine Sector Enhancing Cross-Functional Understanding Through a Demand Breakdown Tool
In today’s dynamic business environment, effective coordination across organiza-
tional functions is critical for operational efficiency and strategic alignment. This
thesis investigates coordination challenges from an S&OP perspective within the
order-to-delivery process of a system-providing company in the marine sector. Through
a qualitative single-case study approach, the research identifies key coordination bar-
riers, including unclear responsibilities, misaligned forecasts, siloed communication,
and conflicting performance goals. To address these challenges, an Excel-based
tool was developed to translate high-level sales forecasts into actionable insights for
operational functions, particularly Procurement. The study evaluates the tool’s po-
tential to enhance cross-functional understanding and support the implementation
of a formal S&OP process. Findings suggest an S&OP process holds strong poten-
tial to improve cross-functional alignment and support proactive decision-making.
Moreover, having a basic excel tool as a first step in an S&OP implementation can
significantly improve planning maturity, transparency, and responsiveness. The re-
search contributes to both theory and practice by highlighting the importance of
contextual adaptation, trust in data, and behavioral alignment in successful S&OP
implementation
Lásságámmi was designed by the self-taught architect Eino Jokinen together with Valkeapää himself. According to the architect, the buildings design was the result of a close friendship and over a year long process. The house was intended to look like a large turf hut, and the name therefore literally translates to “the sloping rock turf hut”. Long before the construction started, Nils-Aslak Valkeapää spent a lot of time on the plot while working with the text for his book “Girddán Seivvodan” (I Fly, I Soar). In this way, the plot became his ruoktu (home) long before the building was completed, which in a way reflects his definition of space and the scope of home. The concept of ruotku is central to his art, and there are often clear parallels between the building's structure and composition of rooms, to the creative processes behind his texts. Since his passing in 2001, artists and researchers, chosen by a council, can live and work with their art of research in his house
Multi-Agent Large Language Model as AD/ADAS System Engineer
Recent advancements in generative AI, particularly in Large Language Models (LLMs) have sparked a major revolution and a qualitative shift in various fields, including software code generation and unit test generation, offering new opportunities to automate various aspects of the software development process. At the same time, the demand of sophisticated software in the automotive industry has grown rapidly. This trend motivates the exploration of the potential of LLMs in supporting the development of AD/ADAS functions. A pipeline, CoTeGen, for code generation, test case generation, and the automation of virtual simulation-based testing in Esmini is designed following three iterative development cycles. The pipeline is designed to address four AD/ADAS functions. The first two are constrained to relatively elementary maneuvers, namely simple braking and lane changing, whereas the latter are dedicated to more sophisticated control tasks, specifically Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Avoidance. Across these iterative cycles, the pipeline progressed from generating non-compilable software components to providing compilable and functional software. Based on a multi-run experimental evaluation involving five open-source LLMs, Codellama:7B, Mistral:7B, DeepSeek-Coder-v2:7B, Gemma3:4B, and Qwen2.5-Coder:7B, the pipeline shows a clear ability to generate correct source code for the simpler functions, while proving far less effective for the more advanced functions. Finally, we discuss the challenges and limitations of applying LLMs to code and unit test generation within the proposed pipeline
personer i ledande positioner inom säkerhet.
Lysozyme Secretion in S. cerevisiae for Fermentation on Anabaena sp. Biomass and Development of the Model MPRC. A Proof-of-Concept Study for Sustainability of Human Life on Mars
Prospective long-duration space exploration missions require onsite production to
sustain human life, due to both economic and technical challenges. Life is a modular
and self-replicating technology with a wide range of production capabilities. S.
cerevisiae and other fungi can produce a lot of useful products for space applications.
However, S. cerevisiae is heterotrophic and need to be fed a substrate to grow and
produce. Cyanobacterial biomass has been proposed as a potential substrate but has
previously only been used as such after pretreatment of the biomass. In this proof of
concept study, I have engineered S. cerevisiae to express and secrete enzymes with
lytic capabilities, lysozymes (EC: 3.2.1.17), to lyse the space application relevant
cyanobacterium Anabaena sp. to be able to use it as a substrate.
159 relevant lysozyme candidates were identified from which ten were tested for
compatibility with the hypothesized functionality. The alpha mating factor se-
cretion tag and the p426GDP and cPOTud expression platforms in BY4742 and
CEN.PK.530.1CK were used to test the selected ten lysozymes. Six out of ten
lysozymes were successfully expressed in S. cerevisiae strains with promising enzy-
matic activity, albeit with reduced S. cerevisiae fitness. Expression of the final candi-
date, Lysozyme C Chinese softshell turtle (L4), had a significant lytic effect on frozen
Anabaena sp. biomass. L4, in particular, significantly reduced the fitness of S. cere-
visiae CEN.PK.530.1CK by 11% lower endpoint OD600 and 15% lower growth rate.
S. cerevisiae growth measurements in cyanobacterial media using optical density is
not applicable, as cyanobacterial absorbance overshadows any changes due to S. cere-
visiae growth. Therefore, a new over-deterministic linear model named MPRC was
created from flow cytometry data. MPRC was shown to predict CEN.PK.530.1CK
growth in Anabaena sp. containing medium with a 98% relative accuracy. Us-
ing MPRC, an endpoint reduction of cell count of CEN.PK.530.1CK at significant
22% was measured in the presence of Anabaena sp. biomass in normal media.
CEN.PK.530.1CK with L4 insert in it’s cPOTud plasmid, and thus expressed and
secreted of L4 significantly increased the endpoint cell count by 9% relative to the
empty plasmid in normal media with 3% added Anabaena sp. biomass. Similarly,
L4 expressing CEN.PK.530.1CK had a significant 124% higher endpoint cell count
in low nitrogen content media and a significant 71% higher endpoint cell count in
no glucose content media, both with 3% added Anabaena sp. biomass to the media.
Thus, the Anabaena sp. biomass seems to be able to provide both a nitrogen- and
a glucose- source that can facilitate CEN.PK.530.1CK growth, but further testing
is needed to fully understand the performance of the system
Integrating social sustainability in double track railway expansion; a closer look at decision making and stakeholder dynamics in a Swedish context
The expansion of railway infrastructure is a central component of sustainable mobility
strategies, yet the integration of social sustainability into such projects remains
underdeveloped in Sweden. Despite the potential for railway investments to foster
accessibility, inclusion, and quality of life, these aspects are often overshadowed by
economic and environmental priorities. This study aims to investigate how decision-
making processes and stakeholder dynamics influence the integration of social
sustainability in double-track railway expansion projects between large and medium
sized cities in Sweden. Anchored in Social Impact Assessment (SIA), stakeholder
theory, and Arnstein’s Ladder of Participation, this research examines two case studies:
the Gothenburg-Trollhättan and Ängelholm-Maria projects. Data were collected
through document analysis and semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders,
including transport agencies, contractors, and consultants. The findings reveal that
while social impacts such as accessibility and daily life improvements are recognized,
their prioritization is often reactive and lacks coherence, largely dependent on
individual actors, champions, rather than systematic frameworks. Decision-making
processes tend to emphasize economic feasibility, with consultation processes
frequently limited to informing or consultation levels on Arnstein’s ladder, thus
marginalizing deeper forms of citizen influence. The study concludes that the absence
of formalized SIA frameworks in Sweden hinders the proactive integration of social
sustainability in railway infrastructure projects. It recommends the development of
standardized SIA guidelines to strengthen social outcomes in future project
Design and development of a robot vacuum cleaner
This bachelor’s thesis presents the design, development, and evaluation of a robot vacuum cleaner. The system was developed as an integrated solution combining both hardware and software. The mechanical design was created using CAD software and then 3D-printed. The robot uses a differential drive configuration and employs Robot Operating System 2 (ROS 2) for control and communication. Key features include a brush and fan-based cleaning mechanism. The prototype was evaluated in terms of suction and brush performance, as well as its ability to follow predefined trajectories. Results demonstrated effective cleaning capability and reliable maneuverability within the design constraints, though some areas for improvement were identified. The thesis concludes with a discussion of the results, an analysis of the design, suggestions for future improvements, and a final conclusion
belastning
