    Inverkan av friströmsturbulens på aerodynamiska prestanda hos vägfordon

    Detta projekt har genomförts för att studera friströmsturbulensens inverkan på aerodynamisk prestanda hos vägfordon. I detta fall är den valda vägfordonstypen en nedskalad modell av en lastbil. Det finns två huvudsakliga syften med denna rapport: att evaluera hur två olika typer av turbulensgeneratorer, i form av en cylinder och ett rutnät, kan skapa realistisk turbulens som speglar verkliga förhållanden, samt att undersöka effetiviteten på aerodynamiska designförbättringar på fordonets prestanda. För att uppnå dessa mål användes både CFD-simuleringar samt experiment i Chalmers vindtunnel. Turbulensgeneratorn i form av en cylinder fungerade inte som tänkt då den hade en för stor diameter och var placerad för nära lastbilsmodellen under testerna. Det resulterade i den tänkta turbulensnivån som önskades inte uppnåddes och cylindern användes därför inte vidare i CFD-delen av projektet. I CFD användes repliker av Chalmers vindtunnel samt den nedskalade lastbilsmodellen för att skapa så lika förhållanden som möjligt mellan vindtunnel och CFD. Resultaten mellan CFD och vindtunnel jämfördes och visar att luftmotståndskoefficienten ökar med högre nivåer av turbulens medan luftavvisaren minskar luftmotståndskoefficienten överlag

    Optimizing reuse decisions; visualizing profitability and CO₂ savings

    The construction sector is under growing pressure to reduce its environmental impact, particularly in terms of CO₂ emissions and material waste. This master's thesis explores how to enhance reuse decision-making in renovation projects by applying structured decision-making models that strike a balance between environmental responsibility and economic viability. By combining a systematic literature review with qualitative interviews with professionals in the Swedish real estate sector, the study highlights key factors that influence reuse choices, such as CO₂ reduction, economic factors and technical lifespan. A decision-support framework using the TOPSIS model is created, offering a clear method for comparing and prioritizing reuse alternatives using multiple weighted criteria. The results underscore the critical role of internal expertise, consistent use of standardized indicators and effective data visualization in facilitating a more systematic approach to reuse. Although organizations recognize the value of reuse as part of their long-term climate goals, challenges such as unclear responsibilities and high labour costs persist. This study contributes to the field by showing how practical tools and organizational strategies can work together to make sustainable reuse a more attainable objective in the construction industr

    Detecting and Evaluating Risky Behaviors in Overtaking Scenarios for Safer Driving

    While cycling has become a popular way of modern transportation, concerns about cyclist safety remain significant. One typical and potentially risky scenario arises when motor vehicles pass (including overtake) cyclists, which may lead to close passing incidents and endanger the vulnerable road users. Previous works intensively investigated a typical scenario where an ego vehicle is overtaking a cyclist on a two-lane rural road with possible oncoming vehicles present on the adjacent lane. Experiments have been conducted to study the characteristics in vehicle-cyclist interaction during overtaking. Many studies segment the overtaking period into phases to better model the maneuver. There are also traffic laws that requires a minimum lateral distance when a motor vehicle passes cyclists. In this thesis, we used real-world data from Volvo Cars Corporation to detect and evaluate risky passing and overtaking behavior. We used and further developed a tool that extracts scenarios when ego vehicles pass cyclist. Then output information derived from signals in these scenarios. With that information, we built a rulebased model and applied it to different phases of the overtaking process. The model used four safety metrics: Variable-Adjusted Minimum Passing Distance, Perceived Risk Score, Minimum Distance Returning, and the Lateral-Time Risk Index. We conducted statistical analysis on the data and the model output. We also verified some of the results by manually reviewing the scenario on a visualization system to evaluate the correctness of our model. Furthermore, we discussed some special or difficult cases, such as overtaking a cyclist group, sensor unreliability at night, overtaking maneuvers happening on curved roads. We also pointed out the possible limitations in the data source, sensor fusion process and other factors. Lastly, we showed our perspective on the future works that can be based on our thesis work. The work presented in this thesis can help better understand how drivers overtake cyclists, and it may be useful for providing post-event feedback to enhance driving safety, or provide insights to user-based insurance systems

    Intelligent planering av monteringslinor En behovsanalys av krav och förutsättningar i svensk industri

    Tillverkningsindustrin står inför ökande krav på flexibilitet, korta ledtider och hantering av produktvariation. I detta examensarbete undersöks hur ett intelligent planeringssystem kan utformas för att bättre stödja planering och optimering av monteringslinor. Studien bygger på en kvalitativ metod där litteraturstudier kombinerats med intervjuer från tre svenska industriföretag: Parker Hannifin, Swegon och Volvo Penta. Resultaten visar att nuvarande planeringssystem präglas av fragmenterad information, manuell hantering och begränsad återkoppling i realtid. Både planerare och produktionsledare efterfrågar system som är mer integrerade, proaktiva och användarvänliga. Studien identifierar ett antal behov och krav kopplade till funktionalitet, datakvalitet och användargränssnitt, samt belyser vikten av att inkludera olika aktörers perspektiv vid utformning av framtida system. Arbetet utgör ett teoretiskt bidrag till förståelsen för hur digitalisering kan stödja produktionsplanering i komplexa monteringsmiljöer

    Mätsystem och analys för att bedöma åkteknik för längdskidåkare

    Kandidatarbetet presenterar utvecklingen och utvärderingen av en prototyp för att mäta och bedöma åkteknik i längdskidåkning. Syftet var att undersöka hur tekniska hjälpmedel kan stödja skidåkare i att självständigt förbättra och utveckla sin teknik. Målet var att skapa en prototyp som kan samla in data om åkarens teknik och använda denna information för att bedöma teknikens kvalitet och ge feedback. Prototypen byggdes med hjälp av tre typer av sensorer, töjningsgivare, accelerometrar och en Time of Flight sensor. Töjningsgivarna mätte trycket som appliceras på fötterna, accelerometrarna registrerade rörelser i en skida och överkroppen, och Time of Flight sensorn registrerade benens rörelser och passage. Försök genomfördes på rullskidor på ett rullband med längdskidåkare med olika erfarenhet. Resultaten visade att prototypen kunde urskilja skillnader mellan erfarna och oerfarna skidåkare baserat på mätdata som beskrev deras rörelsemönster. Det ursprungliga målet om en helt självständig prototyp uppnåddes inte fullt ut, men projektet har gjort ett viktigt framsteg i utvecklingen av tekniska hjälpmedel som kan stödja skidåkare i deras självständiga teknikutveckling

    To achieve with the least possible means a home of one’s own: Designing a wood masonry building using offcuts from the sawmill industry

    Historically, times of crisis and scarcity have forced people to use what materials they have available in the most frugal way and invent ingenious methods of building using previously disregarded materials. Yet amidst today’s climate crisis, when timber is hailed as the key to a more sustainable construction industry, as much as 80% of the timber produced in Sweden is used to make short-lived goods. This is despite the fact that environmental organizations deem it crucial that as much as possible is used in building construction, in order to reap the benefits of the wood’s carbon sequestration properties. This thesis argues that one way to utilize the material more efficiently is to rethink which types and qualities of wood we use for construction, and that historical buildings might provide direction. It focuses on a vernacular building technique which was in use in parts of Sweden and Norway between 1850 and 1950 but has since fallen into obscurity. The technique is a form of masonry using wood, and though there are several known variations across Europe under the umbrella term ‘wood masonry’, this thesis concerns one using short plank offcuts which were laid like bricks in a running bond. Rather than merely trying to revive this forgotten building technique, it is examined from a contemporary perspective, by studying flows of byproducts from today’s timber industry, and relating the design work to architects who have worked with or in relation to vernacular architecture, including Francis Kéré internationally, and Jan Gezelius from Swedish tradition. Writings by Swedish architectural theoretician Finn Werne helped position the thesis design work in relation to the existing cultural heritage of both the technique itself and the geographical region of Bohuslän, which the plank masonry technique specifically had strong ties to. The result is the design of two single-family houses, constructed in the plank masonry technique using offcuts taken from the production of finger joint lumber at a specific sawmill. Finally, a discussion is had that evaluates which measures would be needed for the technique to prove a viable alternative in construction today

    Integrating Generative AI Tools into Software Development

    Generative AI (GenAI) and large language models (LLMs) have become popular in recent years for their versatility, usefulness, and ease of use. Now, these GenAI tools are being adopted for more professional use cases, such as software development. The case study presented in this thesis took place from March to August 2025 at a larger international IT company, while they tried to test and adopt Google’s GenAI tool Gemini into the organization, with a special focus on the software development department. This case study examines different aspects of the integration and adoption of GenAI tools in a larger organization, as well as how developers view and trust these tools in a software development context. The results showed that both the perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of generative AI tools for software development are high, and that the vast majority of developers perceive their productivity, development velocity, and problem-solving speed to all increase over a four-month period when using GenAI tools. As a product of this study, a conceptual model was developed based on collected data and adoption theory to show how different factors influence each other in the selection and adoption of GenAI tools. Tool selection from an organizational perspective showed that cost was of secondary importance to compliance, productivity, and integration into existing workflows

    From pattern to place: The architecture of a living fish market in Gothenburg

    In today’s urbanized and digitized world, knowledge of where food comes from is increasingly scarce and access to fresh, locally sourced food becomes rare. Supermarket culture,convenience-driven lifestyles and industrial food systems weaken our relationship with food origins, turning nourishment into a transaction rather than an experience. This disconnection threatens not only public health and sustainability but also cultural identity. In Gothenburg, a city historically tied to the sea, traditional fish markets lose much of their civic and cultural significance. This thesis explores how architecture restores these connections by reimagining the fish market as a spatial and social regeneration tool. Drawing from Christopher Alexander’s A Pattern Language and the theory of living structures, the project adopts a narrative, site-specific design methodology. It develops a framework through modular exploration, pattern testing and site analysis in Fiskhamnen. The design mirrors the rhythms of local marketplace interactions and provides transparency in food production through living spaces that offer education and experience. Two research questions guide the project: How can architectural design and food spaces such as a fish market reconnect social interactions among food producers and consumers in one place? How can pattern-based design methods shape a contemporary fish market that is suited to Fishmarket in Fiskhamnen , Gothenburg? The resulting design is more than a market. It becomes a spatial narrative. Traditionally, processes such as gutting, sorting and storage are hidden from public view. This project makes them partially visible through architectural elements like the Salt Trace, ice storage and Gut Room. These spaces serve as infrastructure and educational tools, transforming the market from a purely commercial typology into a civic space that dissolves boundaries between front and back, clean and messy, public and private. By merging pattern-based architectural methodology with storytelling and ecological awareness, this thesis reimagines public markets as active learning environments and living systems that are functional, felt, understood and remembered through architecture

    Socialt värde i logistikens skugga: En studie om hur fastighetsutvecklare arbetar med att skapa socialt värde i logistikområden

    Social hållbarhet håller på att etableras som ett centralt begrepp inom fastighetsbranschen. Trots denna utveckling präglas området fortfarande av en påtaglig begreppsmässig oklarhet, där avsaknaden av en vedertagen definition försvårar möjligheten för företag att arbeta strategiskt, följa upp insatser och utveckla enhetliga arbetssätt. Denna uppsats syftar till att undersöka hur företag verksamma inom logistikfastighetssektorn uppfattar social hållbarhet, på vilka sätt de integrerar sociala hållbarhetsaspekter i sin verksamhet samt hur de kan utveckla detta arbete i ett mer långsiktigt och strategiskt perspektiv. Studien baseras på en kvantitativ enkätundersökning som besvarats av två konkurrerande logistikfastighetsföretag, och deras svar har därefter analyserats. För att fördjupa förståelsen av företagens arbete med social hållbarhet har även kvalitativa intervjuer genomförts. Resultaten visar att det råder ett växande intresse och en positiv utvecklingspotential för att arbeta med social hållbarhet inom logistikfastighetsbranschen. Detta kan i stor utsträckning förklaras med en ökad efterfrågan från hyresgäster, investerare och det omgivande samhället. Samtidigt indikerar resultaten att insatserna riskerar att förbli fragmenterade i frånvaro av gemensamma riktlinjer, strukturer och definitioner. En intressant observation är att investeringar i social hållbarhet i vissa fall upplevs generera ekonomisk avkastning snabbare än motsvarande satsningar inom miljömässig hållbarhet. För att uppnå varaktiga effekter och skapa långsiktigt värde, både för verksamheten och för samhället i stort, krävs ett mer systematiskt och samordnat arbetssätt. Genom att formulera en tydlig färdplan, etablera gemensamma mål och definitioner, kan logistikfastighetsföretag stärka sin förmåga att integrera social hållbarhet som en naturlig och mätbar del av affärsstrategin
