This study explores how a bikini clasp can be designed for the international fashion brand By Malene Birger, with the aim of combining functionality, brand identity, and sustainability. The clasp is a small but central component of a bikini, influencing both the aesthetic expression and the user experience. The project focuses particularly on the challenge of integrating the brand’s detailed monogram into the clasp design without compromising practical function or the sense of exclusivity.
Through literature review, market analysis, user interviews, and prototype development, the study investigates how different material choices affect perceptions of quality, aesthetics, and environmental impact. The report compares metal and plastic as material options, including a life cycle assessment using Granta EduPack, as well as qualitative evaluations of user preferences. The results indicate that plastic may serve as a viable alternative to metal under certain conditions, but it requires careful consideration in terms of design, surface finish, and brand communication.
The project results in a design proposal where the monogram is successfully integrated into a bikini clasp that is both functional and visually appealing. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of how small fashion accessories can be developed with sustainability and brand identity in focus, highlighting the importance of balancing aesthetics, functionality, and environmental awareness in modern product development within the fashion industr
Assessing material reuse; a framework for practicality and financial feasibility from suppliers’ perspective
The construction sector is today a large contributor to the environmental impact in
Sweden and the world. It is evident that the industry is facing structural changes over
the coming years to minimize the environmental impact. Reusing materials and
components have been on the uprise as one of the solutions to this problem and have
gained attention the last years. The research in the area is immature, especially
regarding information about the suppliers of materials. Therefore, this study aims at
researching what materials are the most practical and profitable to reuse from a
supplier’s perspective. First, the definition and concept of reuse have been investigated
thoroughly since the vocabulary used today is often vague and differs depending on the
situation and organisation. To further analyse different materials and their reuse
potential a framework was developed based on a literature study to account for the most
important supply and demand aspects as well as the financial aspects that affect the
process of using different materials as reused. Some key areas were identified in the
framework such as, environmental impact, logistical aspects and procurement of
materials. To develop a result, 14 interviews was conducted divided between different
types of actors in the industry. These interviews was the foundation of the results and
were complemented by quantitative and informal data to provide a more comprehensive
result. The study was able to develop a graphic system for evaluating different materials
and therefore grade these materials based on their practicality and profitability in the
area of reuse. The conclusion is that there are many materials suitable for reuse such as,
paving materials, temporary materials, saved materials, furnishing and trim, but also
materials that should be avoided, for example boards and insulation. In addition to this,
several drivers for reuse were identified and included topics such as who the client is,
the importance of definitions, and the market position of the supplier. The study shows
that it is evident that reuse is something that everyone in the construction industry is
going to be involved with. It is also a certainty that the suppliers in the construction
industry are necessary to develop a functioning reuse system and that they should get
involved rather sooner than late

The aim of this project was to develop a concept for a user-centered interface in truck instrument panels, characterized by Low-Tech principles and with a focus on reducing cognitive load and increasing traffic safety. The study's findings were based on insights from a combination of theoretical research in Low-Tech design, Human-Machine Interaction (HMI), and cognitive ergonomics, as well as user studies conducted with professional truck
drivers. The results showed that drivers prefer interfaces that allow quick interaction, easy access to relevant information, and minimal visual distraction while driving. Based on these insights, a final concept was developed for an optimal Low-Tech HMI in a truck. The conclusion is that an ideal interface solution for truck instrument panels should combine both modern and traditional technologies, guided by the needs of the users. Future interface development should therefore be based on drivers' experiences and real-world demands, rather than on the ambition to implement the most advanced technology at any cost
Lásságámmi - concept model
Lásságámmi was designed by the self-taught architect Eino Jokinen together with Valkeapää himself. According to the architect, the buildings design was the result of a close friendship and over a year long process. The house was intended to look like a large turf hut, and the name therefore literally translates to “the sloping rock turf hut”. Long before the construction started, Nils-Aslak Valkeapää spent a lot of time on the plot while working with the text for his book “Girddán Seivvodan” (I Fly, I Soar). In this way, the plot became his ruoktu (home) long before the building was completed, which in a way reflects his definition of space and the scope of home. The concept of ruotku is central to his art, and there are often clear parallels between the building's structure and composition of rooms, to the creative processes behind his texts. Since his passing in 2001, artists and researchers, chosen by a council, can live and work with their art of research in his house
Designing and Evaluating Neural Ordinary Differential Equation Models for Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Time Series
PKPD modeling is the study of the effect of drugs on living organisms. It combines modeling the concentration (PK) and effect (PD) of a drug over time. This is commonly done through systems of ordinary differential equations (ODEs), although
there have been increasing efforts to utilize machine learning methods in the area. In this project, discriminative neural ODE models for PKPD data were developed and compared with other common neural network models. We simulated our train
and test data using an underlying PKPD model, resulting in a ground truth set to accurately test the performance of the models. The models aimed to extrapolate as well as possible to dosing regimens not seen in the training data. We found that using neural ODEs, it is possible to accurately predict concentrations and responses resulting from dose sizes that are more than twice the size of those in the training data. This vastly outperforms the other tested models. Furthermore, using the flow matching algorithm, the training time of the neural ODE model was substantially reduced. The project also investigated whether using a neural ODE as a component in a Generative PKPD model yielded any benefits. It was found that this significantly improved the quality of the samples by more closely reflecting the underlying distribution of PKPD time series. The ability of the discriminative neural ODE models to capture information about the PKPD model used to generate the model was then investigated by assessing their ability to predict uncertainty in the underlying data, as well as their capacity to identify which covariates were relevant to the underlying PKPD model. Finally, a neural ODE model was developed for modeling adverse effects, to test how well the neural ODE performed when the data was not generated using an underlying ODE. This model demonstrated excellent performance in predicting the proportion of patients who experience nausea based on the rate of dose increase over time
