    A Generalized Design Methodology for Band-Pass ΣΔ Modulators

    This paper presents a methodology for the design of band-pass Σ Δ modulators. The proposed procedure does not force the modulator central frequency fn to one quarter of the sampling frequency fs (or to one of its odd multiples), nor imposes each resonator to have an order higher than 2, as a 2 -path and an N-path transformation would respectively do. Starting from the synthesis of the noise transfer function (NTF), which can be accomplished using some MATLAB functions, it is possible to derive the transfer functions of the resonators making up the modulator. To validate the proposed methodology, this paper also illustrates the design of a 4th order band-pass Σ Δ modulator having a 400-kHz central frequency, a sampling frequency of 6.4 MHz and OSR equal to 160, used to drive an ultrasonic transducer and achieving a dynamic range of 72.5 dB

    A Deep Learning Architecture for Land Cover Mapping Using Spatio-Temporal Sentinel-1 Features

    Land cover (LC) mapping using satellite imagery is critical for environmental monitoring and management. Deep learning (DL), particularly convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and vision transformers (ViTs), have revolutionized this field by enhancing the accuracy of classification tasks. In this work, a novel approach combining a transformer-based Swin-Unet architecture with seasonal synthesized spatio-temporal images has been employed to classify LC types using spatio-temporal features extracted from Sentinel-1 (S1) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data, organized into seasonal clusters. The study focuses on three distinct regions—Amazonia, Africa, and Siberia—and evaluates the model performance across diverse ecoregions within these areas. By utilizing seasonal feature sequences instead of dense temporal sequences, notable performance improvements have been achieved, especially in regions with temporal data gaps such as Siberia, where S1 data distribution is uneven and nonuniform. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and the generalization capabilities of the proposed methodology in achieving high overall accuracy (OA) values, even in regions with limited training data

    The artistic-musical poikilia is a broad and variegated concept that spans the entire history of ancient melic poetry, conveying very different aesthetic values depending on the era and author. From the second half of the 5th century bc onwards, the term became synonymous with ‘complexity’ in reference to the virtuosic practices of the so-called ‘New Music’. Probably because of the connection of poikilia with the idea of movement, ancient aesthetic evaluations focus mainly on the rhythmic aspects of musical variation, whose great emotional impact is explained precisely by the correlations between musical rhythm, motor reactions, and physiological rhythm

    Clinical and Radiographic Features of Mandibular Third Molar Gemination: A Case Report and Literature Review

    Introduction: Gemination and fusion are rare developmental anomalies that can present significant diagnostic challenges. Due to the complexity of distinguishing between these conditions, the term “double tooth” is commonly employed in clinical practice. The precise etiology of these anomalies remains uncertain, and their occurrence in permanent dentition—particularly involving molars—is exceptionally rare. This report describes an uncommon case of gemination affecting the mandibular left third molar (tooth 3.8) and provides a comprehensive discussion contextualized within existing literature. The case report was prepared following the CARE guidelines to ensure methodological rigor and completeness. Methods: After an intraoral examination and radiographic assessment—including orthopantomography, periapical radiographs, and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT)—the patient underwent surgical extraction. The procedure involved administering a truncal nerve block to anesthetize the inferior alveolar and lingual nerves, supplemented by local infiltration anesthesia of the buccal nerve. A full-thickness mucoperiosteal flap was elevated, followed by ostectomy and odontotomy to facilitate extraction. The tooth was subsequently removed using a combination of elevators and forceps. Results: Postoperative evaluations conducted at 1.5 and 3 months confirmed complete healing of the surgical site. A detailed analysis of pre- and postoperative radiographic and clinical findings validated the diagnosis of gemination, characterized by coronal continuity with a single root and root canal. Conclusions: Gemination of third molars is exceedingly rare, with only a few cases documented in the literature. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported instance of gemination involving the mandibular left third molar (tooth 3.8). This report contributes to the growing body of knowledge on developmental dental anomalies and highlights the importance of thorough differential diagnosis in similar clinical scenarios

    The Interplay Between Iron Metabolism and Insulin Resistance: A Key Factor in Optimizing Obesity Management in Children and Adolescents

    Iron plays a vital role in insulin signaling, regulating molecular mechanisms that influence cellular insulin responses. This review explores the link between iron metabolism and insulin resistance (IR) in children and adolescents with obesity. A connection between iron metabolism, iron deficiency (ID), and IR is well-documented, but further longitudinal studies are needed to better understand how iron metabolism influences insulin resistance during childhood and adolescence. This connection warrants attention due to its significant public health implications, as optimizing obesity management could help prevent both ID and metabolic complications in children. Current evidence does not suggest that dietary factors are primary contributors to ID in children. However, there is scientific evidence that weight reduction can restore iron homeostasis in people with obesity. Therefore, efforts should focus on improving dietary habits, increasing awareness of iron's importance, and implementing strategies to address both ID and obesity
