Optimization of thermal environment in a building with low-exergy radiant systems and glazed facade
No full textThe aim of this study is to evaluate the potential of thermal comfort enhancement in a selected
zone of a modern office building with high ratio of glazed façade and a heating / cooling
system with high thermal inertia, equipped with low-exergy radiant heating and cooling.
Experimental measurements performed over three reference weeks, distributed over heating,
transition and cooling period, revealed overheating during 15 % - 30 % of the evaluated time
intervals in the heating period. A simulation model of the reference zone with four variations
of ventilation and shading system control strategies was created in TRNSYS to investigate the
possibilities of thermal environment optimization. Three different heating/ cooling radiant
systems were implemented to the model with the optimal set-point variation. The simulations
indicate a potential to significantly enhance thermal comfort by improving the control strategy
of the heating system and of the external blinds, however, the difference between the thermal
environments created by the three different radiation systems were negligible.Energie-Umweltmanagemen
Towards Comparing Programming Paradigms
No full textRapid technological progress in computer sciences finds solutions and at the same time creates ever more complex requirements. Due to an evolving complexity today’s programming languages provide powerful frameworks which offer standard solutions for recurring tasks to assist the programmer and to avoid the re-invention of the wheel with so- called “out-of-the-box-features”. In this paper, we propose a way of comparing different programming paradigms on a theoretical, technical and practical level. Neue Perspektiven für E-Portfolios
No full textE-Portfolios als digitale Sammelmappen für Arbeitsergebnisse, Reflexion und Kommentare werden oft eingesetzt. In den meisten Fällen wird dabei das Werkzeug Mahara genutzt. In dieser "traditionellen" Variante sind die E-Portfolios primär für die Autoren und Lehrenden sichtbar. Am Masterstudiengang Angewandtes Wissensmanagement haben wir uns für eine neue Variante der E-Portfolio-Umsetzung entschieden. Seit zwei Jahren arbeiten die Studierenden mit WordPress E-Portfolios, die im Internet frei zugänglich sind. Damit sind nicht nur technische und organisatorische Herausforderungen verbunden. Die Studierenden müssen vor allem ihre Kompetenzen in den Bereichen Content Management Systeme, Webdesign, Textgestaltung, Medienrecht und persönliches Wissensmanagement "live" im Internet anwenden.Informationstechnologie und Informationsmanagemen

Effects of learning design patterns in service learning courses
No full textStudents participate during service learning courses in a service project, which fits to a community need and has a link to curricular content. Students have a chance while engaged in the service project to apply curricular content in community practice, where they gain insights into civic engagement activities. Empirical studies revealed the effects of service learning, such as its influence on the self-concept, self-efficacy or attitudes to be engaged. However, a lack of research regarding the link between learning design patterns and the effectiveness of service learning can be found. Learning design patterns are teaching or methodical interventions to support the learning and service process of the students. This article presents a study on the experiences of students and charitable organizations in a service learning course concerning the learning design patterns. A mixed-methods design including questionnaires and interviews has been used. Significant effects regarding students’ development of their self-efficacy, self-concept and attitude to being engaged were found. The qualitative results provide a deeper understanding of these changes, including the different perspectives from students and from charitable organizations. The results show differences in the learning design patterns perceived and its support for the service and learning process
