Research into intercultural effectiveness in a multicultural educational milieu in Bosnia and Herzegovina

    No full text
Enhancing intercultural effectiveness through the development of intercultural skills and competencies substantially contributes to establishing a more peaceful and tolerant society, which explains a considerable research interest it excites. The present study aims at investigating how study field, grade-point average (GPA), nationality, gender, university status, and grade level impact intercultural effectiveness of Bosnian university-level students. The research sample consisted of 184 students studying at the Departments of English Language and Literature and Psychology at three different universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A 2 × 4 ANCOVA indicated that intercultural effectiveness varied significantly by study field and GPA, with small effect size in both cases. The interaction effect of study field x GPA was also significant, with an almost moderate effect size. Similarly, a two-way MANOVA revealed that nationality and gender had a significant effect on the combined dependent variables of intercultural effectiveness and their interaction effect was also significant, with a small effect size. On the other hand, a two-way MANOVA revealed an insignificant impact of grade level and university status on the combined dependent variables of intercultural effectiveness. The interaction effect of grade level x university status was also insignificant, with a small effect size. The present study shows that intercultural effectiveness can be further developed and increased in the university milieu and is thus expected to contribute to recognising the importance of its enhancement through curricula and teaching content in particular.Wirtschaf

Are South African grape growers aware of their climatic comparative advantages for growing certain grape varieties? A hedonic approach applying machine learning

    No full text
We assume that each region has its own competitive advantage in growing certain grape varieties, as all varieties have different capabilities to cope with specific weather or climate conditions. In this paper we first analyze the effects of annual weather changes on yields in order to find, which weather is advantageous for which grape variety. This analysis should lead to some kind of ideal weather scenario for each grape variety (like dry and sunny with small rain etc.). In as second step the changing weather conditions in each region are reconciled with these scenarios in order to give recommendations where different grape varieties should be grown. In the third step we compare our recommendations with the distribution of grape varieties in South African wine regions and the uprooting and planting behavior of grape growers.Informationstechnologie und Informationsmanagemen

On the Cost of Security Compliance in Information Systems

    No full text
The onward development of information and communication technology has led to a new industrial revolution called Industry 4.0. This revolution involves Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS), which consist of intelligent Cyber-Physical Systems that may be able to adapt themselves autonomously in a production environment. At the moment, machines in industrial environments are often not connected to the internet, which thus needs a point-to-point connection to access the device if necessary. Through Industry 4.0, these devices should enable remote access for smart maintenance through a connection to the outside world. However, this connection opens the gate for possible cyber-attacks and thus raises the question about providing security for these environments. Therefore, this paper used an adapted approach based on SixSigma to solve this security problem by investigating security standards. Security requirements were gathered and mapped to controls from well known security standards, formed into a catalog. This catalog includes assessment information to check how secure a solution for a use case is and also includes a link to an estimation method for implementation cost. Thus this paper’s outcome shows how to make Industry 4.0 use cases secure by fulfilling security standard controls and how to estimate the resulting implementation costs.

    No full text
Gesundhei

Comparative study of wire bond degradation under power and mechanical accelerated tests

    No full text
Degradation of wire bonds under accelerated power cycling tests is compared to that caused by mechanical high-frequency cycling for commercial power devices. Using micro-sectioning approach and optical microscopy it is found that the bond fracture under the mechanical cycling follows the same tendencies as that found under power cycling. Results of shear tests of the mechanically cycled bonds also agree well with the bond cracking tendencies observed by optical microscopy investigations. It is found that reduction of contact area of the wire at the bond/metallization interface due to the crack development follows the Paris-Erdogan law, which defines the degradation rate leading to wire lift-off. The results obtained on mechanical cycling in the current work also show good agreement with literature data on wire bond fracture under power cycling proving that main mechanism for wire lift-off failure is related to the mechanical stress development at the interface with metallization layer. The carried out study also creates a potential to further develop a high-frequency mechanical cycling into an alternative for reliability analysis of wire bonds. However, more studies have to be performed to compare degradation mechanisms occuring under power and mechanical accelerated tests. © 2019, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.Energie-Umweltmanagemen
