    Towards non-invasive temperature measurements in HVAC: A characterization and correction approach

    2019 IEEE 28th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE), Vancouver, BC, CanadaThe existing building stock within the European Union is responsible for a considerably huge amount of the total energy consumed. This has prompted legislative actions that focus on increasing the efficiency of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning facilities by employing building automation and electronic monitoring systems. The fluid flow temperature in the hydraulic grid of a building is therefore an essential parameter to be measured, where clamp-on temperature sensors are often applied due to their simple and cost-effective installation. As the plumbing industry heads towards non-metal pipe materials with low thermal conductivity, the applicability of non- invasive measurement procedures diminishes. In this context, a characterization approach of non-invasive temperature measurements that is linked to a thermal resistance model is experimentally validated. Based on that, a correction algorithm to reduce the deviation between measured surface and the fluid flow temperature for steady state conditions is derived and tested.     Generic Autonomic Management as a Service in a SOA-based Framework for Industry 4.0

    Cyber-physical production systems are engineered systems that are built from, and depend upon, the seamless integration of computational algorithms and physical components. In order to make these systems interoperable with each other for addressing Industry 4.0 applications a number of service-oriented architecture frameworks are developed. Such frameworks are composed by a number of services, which are inherently dynamic by nature and thus imply the need for self-adaptation. In this paper we propose generic autonomic management as a service and show how it can be integrated in the Arrowhead framework. We propose generic and reusable interfaces for each phase of the autonomic control loop in order to increase the usability of the service for other frameworks and application systems, while reducing the software engineering effort. To show the utility of our approach in the Arrowhead framework we use a climate control application as a representative example

    Design Criteria for Instructional Videos

    The use of videos in teaching is becoming more and more widespread. For this purpose, not only existing videos are used, but also exclusive videos are created. There are different types of instructional videos used and created for teaching. It is useful to know which design principles these videos should follow in order to evaluate the quality of existing learning videos and to know the criteria one should consider when creating exclusive instructional videos. Therefore, questions arise as to how these videos should be designed to equally support theory and practice and what educational requirements they should meet for the use in teaching. These questions are answered with the framework of the study in hand that applied the method design-based research, incorporating qualitative and quantitative research methods. Survey instruments were guided interviews with experts, questionnaires for school students and a focus group. Participants in the study were teachers and students from the Vienna University of Teacher Education. The field of application was nutrition and consumer education for teaching students of the middle school.     A Novel Dual Fuel Reaction Mechanism for Ignition in Natural Gas–Diesel Combustion

    In this study, a reaction mechanism is presented that is optimized for the simulation of the dual fuel combustion process using n-heptane and a mixture of methane/propane as surrogate fuels for diesel and natural gas, respectively. By comparing the measured and calculated ignition delay times (IDTs) of different homogeneous methane–propane–n-heptane mixtures, six different n-heptane mechanisms were investigated and evaluated. The selected mechanism was used for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to calculate the ignition of a diesel spray injected into air and a natural gas–air mixture. The observed deviations between the simulation results and the measurements performed with a rapid compression expansion machine (RCEM) and a combustion vessel motivated the adaptation of the mechanism by adjusting the Arrhenius parameters of individual reactions. For the identification of the reactions suitable for the mechanism adaption, sensitivity and flow analyzes were performed.     Science.Research.Pannonia. 19Die EU 2020 Ziele zur Senkung des Primärenergieverbrauchs bzw. Steigerung der Energieeffizienz fordern auch die moderne Gebäudetechnik zum aktiven handeln auf. Dafür braucht es eine ganzheitliche Betrachtung aller Systeme und Anlagen im Gebäude. Es reicht nicht aus nur einzelne Teilsysteme, wie beispielsweise Wärmebereitstellung oder Wärmeabgabesystem, bilanziell zu bewerten. Die Senkung des Primärenergieverbrauchs durch Steigerung der Energieeffizienz setzt eine genaue Kenntnis der Energiestromverteilung in den hydraulischen Verteilnetzen voraus. In dieser Arbeit rückt die non-invasive Temperaturmessung in den Mittelpunkt. Anhand eines vereinfachten Widerstandsmodells wird ein Korrekturalgorithmus entwickelt, der imstande ist, die Messabweichung zwischen invasiven und non-invasiven Temperatursensoren zu korrigieren. Bei dieser Methodik reicht die messtechnische Erfassung von Rohroberflächentemperatur und Umgebungstemperatur aus, um die annähernd wahre Temperatur des im Rohr strömenden Mediums zu ermitteln. Der Einsatz einer thermischen Isolierung rund um die non-invasive Messstelle wird ebenfalls thematisiert.Forschung Burgenlan
