research work is on the Impact of treasury single account on the performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria (2009-2019). Treasury single account policy which was implemented in 2015 in Nigeria in no doubt, drained the excess liquidity from the banking sector. It was for this reason that this study was set out to ascertain the implications of treasury single account on the performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria for the period under review. The specific objectives were therefore to examine if their exist any significant relationship between interest rate, inflation, average liquidity ratio, net interest margin, nonperforming loan ratio, total deposit, capital adequacy ratio and exchange rate on the profit before tax of deposit money banks and also to determine if there exist any significant relationship between shareholders fund, federal government deposit, money supply, total deposit, loans and advances, gross domestic variable and external reserve on the total asset of deposit money banks in Nigeria for the period under review. The sample size of the study was the same as the population which involved twenty seven (27) deposit money banks that operated in Nigeria as at 2019. Purposive sampling was used for the study. The secondary data used for the study was sourced from the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics and the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin. Linear regression statistics was used to analyse the data. The findings revealed that the variables of net interest margin, nonperforming loans and capital adequacy ratios were all significant to the profit before tax of deposit money banks while shareholders fund, federal government deposit and total deposit were significant to the total asset of deposit money banks. It is therefore recommended that Deposit money banks should try as much as possible to reduce its interest expense in order to maintain a favourable net interest margin, which would result in a high profit before tax of banks. This can achieve by reducing the level of debt in its capital structure. Deposit money banks should always ensure that risky assets been invested upon are well collaterized in order for the bank to avert the risk of loss in an eventuality. This would drastically reduce the level of nonperforming loans. Keywords: Treasury single account, Bank Performance, Deposit Money Banks, Capital Adequacy Ratios, Nonperforming Loans, Net Interest Margin, Profit before Tax

Challenges faced by the Brazilian Government to Restore Individual Investor Confidence Following the Pandemic

    No full text
This dissertation explores the effects on the Brazilian stock market seen since March 2020 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Stock market volatility in Brazil was exacerbated by the Brazilian government enforcing social restrictions to prevent the spread of the virus. The Brazilian government faced challenges in maintaining a balance between the economy and protecting citizens' health. The social restrictions imposed to protect citizens resulted in decreased profits and, in some cases, permanent closures of businesses. This volatility affected investor confidence in the Brazilian market, leading individual and institutional investors to rethink their portfolio strategies. The dissertation focuses on exploring the correlation between Brazilian government policies and individual investors' confidence in the stock market, with particular reference to the fashion retail industry. The main philosophical approach related to this study was positivism, employing a deductive approach. Primary data was collected via an online survey targeting individuals who invested in the Brazilian stock market. The survey was distributed via social media and completed by 64 respondents. The study showed that the primary data rejected the hypothesis of a significant correlation between the Brazilian government's decisions during the pandemic and individual investors' exposure to the equity market. The research revealed that individual investors increased their exposure to equity investments during the pandemic as an opportunity for potential future returns. Recommendations for future research include covering other stock market industries and variables that could affect individual investors' confidence in protecting their portfolios

    No full text
In this dissertation it is proposed that opportunities exist to enhance procurement outcomes in the Irish Defence Forces, (DF) and Department of Defence, (DOD) through increased professionalisation of the procurement stream and network management. This study is an exploratory investigation of procurement processes in the DF and the DOD, who together procure goods, items and services which enable the DF to undertake their assigned roles and to deliver support to the Irish State as required. The objective of the research was to examine the current procurement processes employed and consider potential options for the future based on the experiences of procurement practitioners both internal to, and external from, the DF and DOD. The investigation is orientated around the experiences of eight key procurement personnel who work in the DF and DOD and three personnel who work in external organisations. Qualitative research methods using semi-structured interviews have been employed to examine the experiences of procurement in the DF and DOD as well as procurement practices external to the DF and DOD. Thematic Analysis has been undertaken, with four themes and twelve subthemes emerging from the data assessment. The research finds that the current hybrid model is effective but could be enhanced with further resourcing and a reconfiguration through network structuring. The requirement for additional resources, the value of education and training, and the benefits of experience, in addition to the tenure of procurement appointments are all identified as key findings of the study. Recommendations for further research have been made in the areas of staffing, appointment duration and education and training. Recommendations were also made regarding the establishment of senior management offices for both capability development and procurement, professionalisation of the work stream, provision of a standardised education and training structure and the establishment of a minimum tenure of appointment
