    No full text

Parallel Darboux Equidistant Ruled Surfaces in E3

    No full text
In this study, equidistant ruled surfaces generated by the Darboux vector, which has significant kinematic importance and characterizes the instantaneous rotation of a moving frame, are investigated specifically for the Frenet frame. By establishing a structural relationship between a surface and its equidistant ruled surface, transition formulas are provided for shape operators, Gaussian and mean curvatures, and fundamental forms, revealing that the equidistant surface is a scaled transformation of the original one. The obtained results demonstrate that both surfaces are developable and that the geometric properties of the equidistant ruled surfaces can be expressed dependently on each other. Furthermore, it is shown that the geometric character of the equidistant surface, including the invariance of asymptotic lines and the preservation of umbilical points under constant angle conditions, is determined by the rotational dynamics of the base curve. These findings constitute a theoretical foundation for cases involving the use of Darboux axes of different frames in higher dimensions or the investigation of similar structures in different geometric spaces. The geometric interpretation of this theoretical framework is elucidated through the fundamental properties of the surfaces. Finally, a concrete example is presented, where the symmetry of the central planes of the equidistant ruled surfaces at appropriate points is visualized using Maple 2017 software

New insights into morphing food through a semi-automated system for creating accurate surface grooves of varying depths on cereal-based snacks

    No full text
A new strategy for morphing food consisting of an automated system to generate highly precise grooves on cereal-based snacks with the aim to precisely control the shape changes triggered by baking treatments, has been proposed. The grooves altered the dehydration rate and shrinkage on the top and bottom surfaces, triggering the bending. The baking process was described by the Weibullian model (r > 0.99), with a rate constant between 0.00859 and 0.02066 g H2O/g w.b.∗min in line with the increased groove depth. For thicker samples a delamination was observed for all the groove depths studied, due to the formation of gas pockets generated by water evaporation into the dough. In these cases, the control of morphing could not be achieved. Due to the inhomogeneous heating, delamination occurred mainly at the edge of the samples, as well described by the 2D X-ray cross-sectional images. Thinner samples (1.89 mm and 1.24 mm) achieved the desired shape change as groove depth increased; the swelling effect was not visually observed, while the microtomographic images showed slight swelling. It was possible to obtain a significant bending angle of 122° and 167° respectively after 20 min and 50 min of baking for a sample of 1.24 mm thick, 5.5 cm long, and groove depths of 900 μm

Real-world Predictors of Early Mortality and Treatment Discontinuation in HCC Patients Treated with Atezolizumab–Bevacizumab

    No full text
Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains a major cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Atezolizumab combined with bevacizumab is the current first-line standard for advanced HCC, but its performance in real-world settings warrants further exploration. Methods: We conducted a retrospective, multicenter study involving 80 patients treated between January 2022 and January 2024 across four Italian oncology centers. The primary objectives were early mortality and treatment discontinuation. Secondary endpoints included progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and safety profile. Results: Early mortality occurred in 41.2% of patients. MELD score > 11 was the only independent predictor of early death (OR: 17.52, p < 0.001), while ECOG ≥ 2 did not retain significance in multivariate analysis. Treatment discontinuation was infrequent (5%), and the combination therapy was generally well tolerated. Conclusions: MELD > 11 strongly predicted early mortality in this real-world cohort, highlighting the importance of accurate liver function assessment before treatment initiation. These findings suggest that MELD may be a valuable tool in guiding therapeutic decisions for advanced HCC in routine clinical practice

    No full text
