Clinical Utility of ICD-11 Clinical Descriptions and Diagnostic Requirements for the Classification of Mental, Behavioral or Neurodevelopmental Disorders: A Systematic Review

    No full text
Case-controlled field studies, ecological implementation field studies, and qualitative or mixed methodology studies have been conducted to evaluate the clinical utility of the ICD-11 clinical descriptions and diagnostic requirements (ICD-11 CDDR) for the diagnosis of mental disorders. This systematic review sought to analyze and synthesize the clinical utility indices of these guidelines from the perspectives of mental health professionals (MHPs) and patients from different regions of the world. A systematic search was carried out in five databases Science Direct, Google Scholar, PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus. The relevant studies were subjected to explicit eligibility criteria, resulting in 19 included studies. The study characteristics were tabulated, methodological quality was assessed, and findings were summarized using convergent narrative synthesis. The overall findings indicated that the clinical utility of the ICD-11 CDDR was positive for the majority of studies (78.95%) that analyzed a wide range of mental disorders. Analyses at the level of the disorder groups also revealed the same trend. Almost only qualitative or mixed studies have identified negative aspects or obstacles of this diagnostic system. The clinical utility of the ICD-11 CDDR for the diagnosis of mental disorders is supported. Future research could resolve concerns regarding the isolated negative outcomes of ICD-11 CDDR performance. Finally, it is necessary to expand the scope of the training programs for MHPs and policymakers regarding the use of these guidelines in clinical practice

Evaluation of UV and cleanroom conditions to improve the quality of gnocchi

    No full text
In this research, the use of UV treatment, with and without the adoption of a cleanroom, was implemented at pilot scale to better preserve the quality of pasteurized gnocchi. To study the effects of these two mild techniques on gnocchi quality, microbiological, chemical, physical and sensory parameters were assessed during more than 1 year of storage at room temperature. As regard microbiological quality, all samples remained acceptable for the entire observation period because microbial and fungal counts remained very low. From the sensory point of view, the control gnocchi were found acceptable (score >5) up to about 10 months (300 days), whereas the UV-C treated samples and the gnocchi produced in the cleanroom remained acceptable for about 360 days and 400 days, respectively. From the chemical point of view, the use of the cleanroom with the high volumetric flow rate allowed a better preservation of the total polyphenol content (decrease 36.7% compared to 81–90% in other treatments) and of the volatile organic compounds that are responsible for the aromatic profile of gnocchi as aldehydes, ketones and sesquiterpenoid

The Role of Butirprost® as an Adjuvant in Enhancing the Effect of Antibiotics in Patients Affected by Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis: A Randomized Prospective Trial

    No full text
Bacterial prostatitis (BP) is a common prostatic infection characterized by pain and urinary symptoms, often with negative bacterial cultures from prostatic secretions. It affects young and older men bimodally and impacts quality of life (QoL) significantly. Background and Objectives: Treatment typically involves antibiotics, but a multimodal approach with additional nutraceuticals may enhance outcomes. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of Butirprost® in association with fluoroquinolones in patients with chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP). Materials and Methods: Patients diagnosed with prostatitis (positive Meares-Stamey test and symptom duration > 3 months) at the University of Naples "Federico II", Italy, from March 2024 to July 2024 were included in this study. All patients underwent bacterial cultures. Patients were randomized into two groups: Group A received antibiotics plus Butirprost® (sodium hyaluronate plus Plantago major) for one month, while Group B received antibiotics alone. International Prostatic Symptoms Score (IPSS) and National Institutes of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (NIH-CPSI) questionnaires were administered at baseline and at 15 and 30 days. Results: Out of 60 patients (Group A: 30, Group B: 30), Group A showed significant improvement in IPSS and NIH-CPSI scores at 15 and 30 days compared to Group B. Notable improvements were observed in pain, urinary symptoms, and QoL. Conclusions: The administration of Butirprost® along with fluoroquinolones resulted in a significant improvement in pain, urinary symptoms, and quality of life along with improvements in both IPSS and NIH-CPSI scores, in patients affected by chronic bacterial prostatitis compared with fluoroquinolones alone
