Adapting to Post-Pandemic Changes: Meeting Students' Educational Needs and Preparing Organizations
Masteroppgave(MSc) in Master of Science in Leadership and Organizational Psychology - Handelshøyskolen BI, 2024Two years have passed since the world gradually began to reopen after the pandemic. During the pandemic, digital learning platforms became the norm, and a hybrid working model became prominent for several organizations. In the post-pandemic era, many students faced economic difficulties due to rising inflation. This financial pressure led them to deprioritize their academic focus in favor of increased part-time work to meet financial demands. The transition from purely digital learning to hybrid learning provided many with greater autonomy and flexibility, reducing the stress associated with part-time work alongside studies.
This qualitative study explores the reflections of five master students on how their needs have evolved throughout the pandemic, and their expectations for future employment and leadership. The empirical findings reveal a desire for organizations to support the need for autonomy and flexibility. While there is a preference for hybrid work models, the respondents also experienced the importance and desirability of social interactions, which had been limited during the pandemic. Therefore, it could be important for organizations to support the need for social support, where employees are encouraged to be present at the workplace. The expectations for the workplace include a socially engaging environment and supportive, structured leadership. This thesis provides a glimpse into students’ perspectives and suggests what organizations need to consider meeting the emerging needs that have become prominent post-pandemic and highlighting new areas for future research.

Marketing sonified fragrance: Designing soundscapes for scent
Auditory branding is undoubtedly becoming more important across a range of sectors. One area, in particular, that has recently seen significant growth concerns the introduction of music and soundscapes that have been specifically designed to match a particular scent (what one might think of as “audio scents” or “sonic scents”). This represents an exciting new approach to the sensory marketing of fragrance and for industries with strategic sensory goals, such as cosmetics. Crucially, techniques such as the semantic differential technique, as well as the emerging literature on crossmodal correspondences, offer both a mechanistic understanding of, and a practical framework for, those wishing to rigorously align the connotative meaning and conceptual/emotional/sensory associations of sound and scent. These developments have enabled those working in the creative industries to start moving beyond previously popular approaches to matching, or translating between the senses, that were traditionally often based on the idiosyncratic phenomenon of synaesthesia, toward a more scientific approach while nevertheless still enabling/requiring a healthy dose of artistic inspiration. In this narrative historical review, we highlight the various approaches to the systematic matching of sound with scent and review the various marketing activations that have appeared in this space recently.publishedVersio
During the last decade, the concept student active learning has gained increased attention in Norwegian higher education. In the international research literature, active learning is contrasted with lectures as an example of passive learning. Moreover, many pedagogical approaches (e.g., flipped classroom, teambased learning) and methods (e.g., case, problem-solving tasks) are elevated, since they should enable student activity. Given this diversity, we present a conceptual systematic review focusing on student active learning in empirical research in Norwegian higher education. We aim at identifying how student active learning is defined, what the underlying theoretical frameworks are, and what characterizes the interventions within this research. Following a systematic approach, 33 studies were included. Overall, our results show that student active learning is most often used as an umbrella term, operationalized through a diversity of teaching and learning activities, and pedagogical approaches. In addition, the literature builds on a range of theoretical underpinnings mostly within the social constructivist learning-theory domain. Surprisingly, there is a lack of consistency between the use of the concept operationalisation through intervention and the underlying theoretical lens used to comprehend the study outcomes. Implications for future research and practice are discussed.publishedVersio
Unlocking Customer Satisfaction: The Moderating Role of Car Brand Category in Car Subscription Models
Masteroppgave(MSc) in Master of Science in Strategic Marketing Management - Handelshøyskolen BI, 2024Our master thesis examines the relationship between perceived convenience and customer satisfaction in the context of car subscription, exploring the potential mediating role of perceived risk and flexibility, and the moderating role of car brand category. Our proposed research question is: «How does the perceived convenience of car subscription services influence perceived customer satisfaction, considering the moderating role of car brand categories and the indirect effects of perceived risk and flexibility?”
The literature review supports the chosen research methods and analysis used in this research. Based on previous research, our developed conceptual model illustrates the examined relations between the included variables in this research. With purpose of answering our research question, we used a between-subjects design with randomization in the questionnaire and developed ten hypotheses to explore both relationship between variables and testing for potential mediating and moderating effect. Furthermore, to analyze the collected data and examine the relationship between the included variables in the conceptual model, we considered it appropriate to perform regression analysis, correlation analysis and Process Macro mediation and moderation analysis.
The findings from this research suggest that perceived convenience has a significant influence on perceived risk, flexibility and customer satisfaction. Additionally, the results indicate that risks play an indirect and mediating role in the relationship between perceived convenience and customer satisfaction, highlighting the important role of risk in this dynamic. Moreover, the study revealed a noteworthy moderating influence of car brand category in the relationship between perceived convenience and flexibility.
In conclusion, we reflect on the analysis results and discuss the theoretical and managerial implications, considering what a value proposition for car subscription in general should be focused on
DOES IDIOSYNCRATIC RISK MATTER IN CURRENT MARKET CONDITIONS?
Masteroppgave(MSc) in Master of Science in Finance - Handelshøyskolen BI, 2024In this Master Thesis, we study the impact of idiosyncratic volatility
on stock excess returns, focusing on 1980-2003 and 2003-2021
time horizons for the US and Norwegian markets. We do this by
calculating IVOL as the residuals from FF-3 and regressing it on
stock excess returns using Fama-MacBeth procedure. In addition,
we analyze the impact of skewness in comparison to IVOL. Our
findings state that in 1980-2003 time horizon IVOL has a negative
risk premium for the US, but in 2003-2021 period IVOL has
a positive risk premium. In Noway IVOL does not have any risk
premium
Consortium Governance and Market Entry of Digital B2B Platforms: The Case of ADAMOS
False beliefs pose significant societal threats, including health risks, political polarization and even violence. In two studies (N = 884) we explored the efficacy of an individual-based approach to correcting false beliefs. We examined whether the character virtue of intellectual humility (IH)—an appreciation of one's intellectual boundaries— encourages revising one's false beliefs in response to counter-information.
Our research produced encouraging but also mixed findings. Among participants who held false beliefs about the risks of vaccines (Study 1) and the 2020 US Election being rigged (Study 2), those with higher IH explored more information opposing these false beliefs. This exploration of opposing information, in turn, predicted updating away from these inaccurate health and political beliefs. IH did not directly predict updating away from false beliefs, however, suggesting that this effect—if it exists— may not be particularly powerful. Taken together, these results provide moderate support for IH as a character trait that can foster belief revision but, simultaneously, suggest that alternate pathways to combat false beliefs and misinformation may be preferred.publishedVersio
Exploring the Relationship between Leader Support, Communication, and Change Recipients' Well-being during Organizational Change
Masteroppgave(MSc) in Master of Science in Leadership and Organizational Psychology - Handelshøyskolen BI, 2024This study investigates the relationship between leader support, communication, and the well-being of change recipients during an organizational change process. Concretely, the thesis aims to answer the research question: “How is leader support and communication related to change recipients’ well-being during an organizational change process?”. The study took place in a public sector organization vital to societal functions. Through qualitative thematic analysis of semi-structured, in-depth interviews with department managers and change recipients, four primary themes emerged: (1) Various degree of leader support (2) Unstructured communication, (3) The leader’s role, and (4) Active engagement through working groups. The analysis revealed a positive level of emotional and instrumental support conveyed from their department manager. However, findings revealed that unstructured communication, influenced by confidentiality and poor timing from higher-level managers, contributed to frustration among change recipients. Despite these challenges, the department managers attempted to mitigate resistance to change, through one-on-one conversations and working group initiatives. This research underscores the critical role of structured communication and supportive leadership in navigating organizational change. The study offers insights for enhancing change management strategies and promoting employee well-being during organizational change
Utvkling i norsk økonomi i nyere tid
Ukraina i 2022.
betydelige forstyrrelser i internasjonal handel.
