Coupling Surveys with GPS Tracking to Explore Tourists’ Spatio-Temporal Behaviour
Lecture Notes in Computer Science, Vol. 9789Position tracking technologies developed in the last decade are a valuable addition to the traditional toolbox for data collection, as they offer the opportunity to gather a great amount of unprecedented information on tourists behaviour. In particular, they allow to collect detailed information on spatial and temporal behaviour with respect to different categories/profiles of tourists. We present the results of a survey of tourists’ spatial behaviour coupling GPS movement tracking and questionnaires, and furthermore discuss how this kind of studies may prove useful in providing guidelines for territorial, tourist and transportation policies.nonouirechercheInternationa
Satisfactory graph partition, variants, and generalizations
The Satisfactory Partition problem asks for deciding if a given graph has a partition of its vertex set into two nonempty parts such that each vertex has at least as many neighbors in its part as in the other part. This problem was introduced by Gerber and Kobler [M. Gerber, D. Kobler, Algorithmic approach to the satisfactory graph partitioning problem, European Journal of Operational Research 125 (2000) 283–291] and studied further by other authors. In this paper we first review some applications and related problems. Then, we survey structural, complexity, and approximation results obtained for Satisfactory Partition and for some of its variants and generalizations. A list of open questions concludes this survey.ouinonouirechercheInternationa
Single-Peaked Consistency and its Complexity
A common way of dealing with the paradoxes of preference aggregation consists in restricting the domain of admissible preferences. The most well-known such restriction is single-peakedness. In this paper we focus on the problem of determining whether a given profile is single-peaked with respect to some axis, and on the computation of such an axis. This problem has already been considered in [2]; we give here a more efficient algorithm and address some related issues, such as the number of orders that may be compatible with a given profile, or the communication complexity of preference aggregation under the single-peakedness assumption.ouinonouirechercheInternationa
Degree-constrained decompositions of graphs: bounded treewidth and planarity
We study the problem of decomposing the vertex set V of a graph into two nonempty parts V1,V2 which induce subgraphs where each vertex vset membership, variantV1 has degree at least a(v) inside V1 and each vset membership, variantV2 has degree at least b(v) inside V2. We give a polynomial-time algorithm for graphs with bounded treewidth which decides if a graph admits a decomposition, and gives such a decomposition if it exists. This result and its variants are then applied to designing polynomial-time approximation schemes for planar graphs where a decomposition does not necessarily exist but the local degree conditions should be met for as many vertices as possible.ouinonouirechercheInternationa
Approximation of min-max and min-max regret versions of some combinatorial optimization problems
This paper investigates, for the first time in the literature, the approximation of min–max (regret) versions of classical problems like shortest path, minimum spanning tree, and knapsack. For a constant number of scenarios, we establish fully polynomial-time approximation schemes for the min–max versions of these problems, using relationships between multi-objective and min–max optimization. Using dynamic programming and classical trimming techniques, we construct a fully polynomial-time approximation scheme for min–max regret shortest path. We also establish a fully polynomial-time approximation scheme for min–max regret spanning tree and prove that min–max regret knapsack is not at all approximable. For a non-constant number of scenarios, in which case min–max and min–max regret versions of polynomial-time solvable problems usually become strongly NP-hard, non-approximability results are provided for min–max (regret) versions of shortest path and spanning tree.ouinonouirechercheInternationa
At first sight, the worktime put in by cashiers at checkout counters seems homogeneous, continuous and repetitive. An empirical study of hypermarket cashiers in France shows, on the contrary, that the time spent working is relatively discontinuous and diversified. It is similar to the time on the job put in by semiskilled workers in industry. What characterizes cashiers' work is their having to manage flows of both products and customers. Their worktime can, therefore, be understood as a compromise that comes out of balancing productivity with human relations, a compromise that sometimes causes conflict. By acquiring an “incorporated know-how”, cashiers manage to fill their assignment.ouinonouirechercheNationa

Elective affinity seems to link reform of retirement, development of long-term investments and SRI next decades. They so suggest the possibility of an endogenous evolution of financial capitalism which would become more favourable to a long term perspective, without departing from the principle of investors' rationalitynonouirechercheInternationa
