Despite important economic inequalities, people aged 50 to 65 are the wealthiest age group in France. So, this group is suitable to study the fitness of economic variables in segmentation. In order to explain 9 consumption behaviours, we compare the predictive power of 4 economic variables to 13 other usual segmenting variables. First of all, the results prove the relative efficiency of these economic variables. Also, they underline that perceived wealth is as predictive as objective economic variables, especially concerning behaviours related to savingsLos 50-65 años constituyen el grupo de edad más acomodado que se caracteriza por grandes desigualdades económicas.
Is customer orientation a driver of better firm performance? To answer this question, we examine the impact of customer orientation on the business performance of more than 7,500 French firms. Our findings show that customer orientation significantly improves business performance, as measured by the logarithm of the profit per employee and the logarithm of EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes and depreciation) per employee. Additionally, there is an indirect impact that varies according to the market environment. The findings imply that the positive influence of customer orientation on firm profitability per employee and EBITDA per employee increases in growing, highly competitive and uncertain markets.nonouirechercheNationa
A branch-and-cut algorithm for the Multiple Steiner TSP with Order constraints
The paper deals with a problem motivated by survivability issues in multilayer IP-over-WDM telecommunication networks. Given a set of traffic demands for which we know a survivable routing in the IP layer, our purpose is to look for the corresponding survivable topology in the WDM layer. The problem amounts to Multiple Steiner TSPs with order constraints. We propose an integer linear programming formulation for the problem and investigate the associated polytope. We also present new valid inequalities and discuss their facial aspect. Based on this, we devise a Branch-and-cut algorithm and present preliminary computational results.nonouirechercheInternationa
The article offers an empirically-based analysis of conflicts over public utility infrastructures in the Paris region. It sheds some light on public decision-making process and on the role conflicts play in the process of land availability. Area tends to be lessened due to economic development and urban sprawling. The need of space for urbanization is undeniable, but the margin for operations is reducing because of growing scarcity of available land. Empirical evidence based on courts records show that conflicts on infrastructures occur mainly in peri-urban spaces, in relatively small and wealthy towns. Being proof of the local inhabitant’s non satisfaction, the conflicts could be seen as an echo of the struggle between needs of urbanization and land preservation. The article also spots on the complexity and the ambiguity of the public decision-making process, by offering a critical lecture of its principles and its application in terms of infrastructure project.nonouirechercheNationa
Complexity Results for the Empire Problem in Collection of Stars
In this paper, we study the Empire Problem, a generalization of the coloring problem to maps on two-dimensional compact surface whose genus is positive. Given a planar graph with a certain partition of the vertices into blocks of size r, for a given integer r, the problem consists of deciding if s colors are sufficient to color the vertices of the graph such that vertices of the same block have the same color and vertices of two adjacent blocks have different colors. In this paper, we prove that given a 5-regular graph, deciding if there exists a 4-coloration is NP-complete. Also, we propose conditional NP-completeness results for the Empire Problem when the graph is a collection of stars. A star is a graph isomorphic to K 1,q for some q ≥ 1. More exactly, we prove that for r ≥ 2, if the (2r − 1)-coloring problem in 2r-regular connected graphs is NP-complete, then the Empire Problem for blocks of size r + 1 and s = 2r − 1 is NP-complete for forests of K 1, r . Moreover, we prove that this result holds for r = 2. Also for r ≥ 3, if the r-coloring problem in (r + 1)-regular graphs is NP-complete, then the Empire Problem for blocks of size r + 1 and s = r is NP-complete for forests of K 1, 1 = K 2, i.e., forest of edges. Additionally, we prove that this result is valid for r = 2 and r = 3. Finally, we prove that these results are the best possible, that is for smallest value of s or r, the Empire Problem in these classes of graphs becomes polynomial.nonouirechercheInternationa
Evaluation of Environment Contextual Services in Multiagent Systems
The environment is a powerful first-order abstraction in Multi-AgentSystems (MAS), as well as a critical building block. The agents interact in theirenvironment and the effects of their actions are observed and evaluated throughthis environment. The local complexity of the agents depends on its managementof the interaction and action processes. If the environment carries out a part ofthis processes, the complexity of the agents is reduced. This delegating processimplies a centralization of a part of the MAS computations inside the environmentand therefore a flexible way to exchange information and to coordinate the agents. In this paper, we present the modeling of an environment which supports bothcommunication services and simulation services : multi-party communications(communication) and contextual activation (simulation). We evaluate the cost ofthese environment services and compare it to the execution of the same tasksinside the agents. The evaluation and comparison are done theoretically and em-pirically for communication and simulation. We also investigate the clustering ofthe agents in several environments.ouinonouirechercheInternationa

On the MAX MIN VERTEX COVER problem
We address the max min vertex cover problem, which is the maximization version of the well studied MIN INDEPENDENT DOMINATING SET problem, known to be NP-hard and highly inapproximable in polynomial time. We present tight approximation results for this problem on general graphs, namely a polynomial approximation algorithm which guarantees an approximation ratio, while showing that unless P = NP, the problem is inapproximable within ratio for any strictly positive. We also analyze the problem on various restricted classes of graph, on which we show polynomiality or constant-approximability of the problem. Finally, we show that the problem is fixed-parameter tractable with respect to the size of an optimal solution, to tree-width and to the size of a maximum matching.nonnonouirechercheInternationa
