Parameterized Inapproximability of Target Set Selection and Generalizations
In this paper, we consider the TARGET SET SELECTION problem: given a graph and a threshold value thr(v) for each vertex v of the graph, find a minimum size vertex-subset to “activate” such that all vertices of the graph are activated at the end of the propagation process. A vertex v is activated during the propagation process if at least thr(v) of its neighbors are activated. This problem models several practical issues like faults in distributed networks or word-to-mouth recommendations in social networks. We show that for any functions f and ρ this problem cannot be approximated within a factor of ρ(k) in f(k)·nO(1) time, unless FPT=W[P], even for restricted thresholds (namely constant and majority thresholds), where k is the number of vertices to activate in the beginning. We also study the cardinality constraint maximization and minimization versions of the problem for which we prove similar hardness results.nonouirechercheInternationa
News dissemination and investor attention
We examine how investor attention changes when a firm adopts a modern news dissemination technology. We find that after continental European firms begin using an English-language electronic wire service to disseminate company news, they exhibit a stronger initial reaction to earnings surprises, a lower post earnings announcement stock price drift, and an increase in abnormal trading volume near earnings announcements, compared with when they disseminated their news in non-electronic format and in a continental European language. Our results hold for a sub-sample of firms for which the decision to use a wire service was likely exogenous. The effect of wire services on investor attention is due to the format of news (electronic and English-language), not to the increased speed of news transmission.nonouirechercheInternationa
The wish to minimize his efforts to answer a questionnaire is known with the term of satisficing. It constitutes an important problem for both researchers and practitioners. The aim of this article is to improve the detection and the effects of this phenomenon. The results of a quantitative study confirm the loss of the quality of answers caused by the satisficing. The Instructional Manipulation Check (IMC) appears more effective to detect "satisficers" than the Reversed Item Test (RIT) and the Global Response Time (GRT).nonnonrechercheNationa
The negative effects of corporate political activity on organizational legitimacy: The case of the major music labels
Our article uses the notion of legitimacy to contribute to the knowledge of the impact of corporate political activity. The analysis of the implementation of majors’ lobbying strategy in the music industry at the time of the DADVSI law shed light on the process involving simultaneously both a political success and a decrease of firms’ audibility. The political activity conducted by the firms entailed a paradoxical situation where the short-term political success was followed by a mid-term loss of influence. Our article then calls for a better understanding of the management of legitimacy in firms’ political activity.nonouirechercheNationa

This article explores the diffusion of sustainable development within the implications of French speaking marketing research through a textual analysis of five recent AFM Congresses proceedings and through an interpretation based on Bourdieu’s sociological framework. It ends up with a discussion about the evolution of marketing research.nonouirechercheNationa
Worst case compromises in matroids with applications to the allocation of indivisible goods
We consider the problem of equitably allocating a set of indivisible goods to n agents with additive utilities so as to provide worst case guarantees on agents' utilities. Demko and Hill [6] showed the existence of an allocation where every agent values his share at least Vn(α)Vn(α), which is a family of nonincreasing functions of α, defined as the maximum value assigned by an agent to a single good. A deterministic algorithm returning such an allocation in polynomial time was proposed in [15]. Interestingly, Vn(α)Vn(α) is tight for some values of α, i.e. it matches the highest possible utility of the least happy agent. However, this is not true for all values of α . We propose a family of functions WnWn such that Wn(x)≥Vn(x)Wn(x)≥Vn(x) for all x , and Wn(x)>Vn(x)Wn(x)>Vn(x) for values of x where Vn(x)Vn(x) is not tight. The functions WnWn apply on a problem that generalizes the allocation of indivisible goods. It is to find a base in a matroid which is common to n agents. Our results are constructive, they are achieved by analyzing an extension of the algorithm of Markakis and Psomas. We also present an upper bound on the utility of the least happy agent.nonouirechercheInternationa

Complexity and approximation for Traveling Salesman Problems with profits
In TSP with profits we have to find an optimal tour and a set of customers satisfying a specific constraint. In this paper we analyze three different variants of TSP with profits that are NP-hard in general. We study their computational complexity on special structures of the underlying graph, both in the case with and without service times to the customers. We present polynomial algorithms for the polynomially solvable cases and fully polynomial time approximation schemes (FPTAS) for some NP-hard cases.nonouirechercheInternationa
