This theoretical and methodological article aims to demonstrate the benefit of jointly using the variable-oriented approach (VOA) and the person-oriented approach (POA) to examine vocational development. We present the results of two longitudinal studies conducted with secondary school students: the first, based on the VOA, examined the predictive links between academic motivation (autonomous, controlled and amotivation) and vocational indecision at the intrapersonal level; the second, using the POA, allowed us to identify different motivational profiles and connect them to differentiated trajectories of vocational indecision. Putting these two approaches into perspective shows their complementarity: the VOA illustrates the dynamics of intra-individual fluctuations, while the POA shows the interpersonal heterogeneity of trajectories. Together, they contribute to a more detailed understanding of the expression of vocational indecision and the role of motivational functioning in the vocational development of secondary school students.
Community Bonds and Canada’s Foundations: Rethinking Risk and Financial Outcomes
Community wealth building (CWB) offers a place-based approach to impact investing, fostering local economic development and wealth retention (Dowin Kennedy, 2021; Guinan & O’Neill, 2019; O’Neill & Howard, 2018; Ratner, 2019). Community bonds (CBs), a CWB tool, challenge traditional wealth models but remain underutilized due to limited awareness (Surman & Hughes, 2012; Hughes, 2013). This study examines risk perceptions versus financial performance in the Canadian CB market, arguing that addressing information asymmetry is key to unlocking capital and scaling impact. Using historical repayment data, it introduces a dataset of CB offerings and proposes a bond rating system to reduce risk. The study also develops an investor typology and explores partnerships among investors, issuers, and intermediaries through a CWB lens.
This article presents a reflective review of the development of the TRIPLEX game, designed in the Laboratoire ludique du Service des bibliothèques de l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). Using a collaborative design methodology, the team developed a game intended to strengthen the linguistic confidence of people learning French, while integrating it as a documentary item in the library’s collections. By combining playful, educational, and documentary dimensions, TRIPLEX demonstrates that games can become a lever for linguistic inclusion and a tool for cultural mediation within university libraries. The article draws on a theoretical framework that combines the notion of the expanded document, the library as a third place, and the construction of linguistic confidence
Recently, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to automate records management processes has gained considerable attention. The integration of AI into records management processes brings many benefits for organizations as it enables records managers to focus on more complex tasks and, thus, gain in productivity. However, such integration also brings its own risks, which could compromise the quality of the managed records and raise challenges regarding organizations’ institutional duties related to transparency and accountability. Thus, a risk management approach to augmented records management is needed to better control archival processes. The ISO 18128 standard Information and documentation — Records risks — Risk assessment for records management (2024) sheds light on the risks’ sources and suggests useful strategies tackling them. In this article, we will attempt to map the risks associated with the automation of document management based on this normative framework. We will also focus on the role of records managers as risk managers in their organizations, highlighting the interventions required from these professionals in the age of automation in order to develop an appropriate records management policy adapted to the requirements of automation
Speaking to Monuments and their Ghosts: Performance Art as Ephemeral Knowledge Sharing
Talkin Back to Johnny Mac is a performance series that I curated in response to the 200th birthday celebrations for John A. Macdonald held in Kingston, Ontario in 2015. Many of the 2015 performances that examined and intervened in the Prime Minister’s ongoing memorialization took place at his statue in Kingston. In 2021, the statue was removed by the city after many requests from community members. I returned to the site of the statue in October 2025 with a new performance series in order to explore the ways in which the site had changed since the removal of the statue, and the ways in which it had stayed the same. This essay explores the performances by artists David Garneau, Leah Decter, Peter Morin and Jimmie Kilpatrick in 2015 and 2025 as a way to consider the colonial narratives that continue to be present at the site of the statue, and the ongoing importance of performance to create spaces for critical and community-oriented interventions

Publishing with Tree-Media: Arbo-real Aesthetics, Pedagogical Ruptures
In response to the ecological and epistemic crises of the Capitalocene, this paper examines how eco-artist Thijs Biersteker develops tree-media—sensor-driven AI installations that treat trees and fungi not as metaphors or data sources, but as co-authors of environmental knowledge. Through the concept of arbo-real aesthetics, the paper proposes an elemental model of publishing rooted in multispecies reciprocity, latency, and refusal. Biersteker’s installations resist extractive AI paradigms by staging alternative epistemologies grounded in vegetal sensing, seasonal rhythms, and symbiotic time. Analyzing six installations produced between 2018 and 2024, the paper theorizes how these works enact a compostable media logic—one that unsettles mastery and reimagines publishing as a sensory, ethical, and relational process. Rather than offering techno-utopian solutions, the installations inhabit the Promethean paradox: they critique digital extractivism while operating within its constraints. As a prescriptive intervention, the paper introduces Listening with Trees, a three-day pedagogical prototype that speculatively translates these insights into multispecies publishing practices. By publishing with trees—through slowness, decay, and co-authorship—this model offers a low-carbon, speculative alternative to academic and AI-driven knowledge systems in the age of the Chthulucene
