No full textInternational audienceThe adult Jean Etxepare tries to express in his travel account Beribilez (1910) the pre-Death mentality. It is a question of highlighting the efforts made by the doctor to reconcile the conflicting positions which he has been offering in society, namely those relating to the Basque Union, and those relating to secularism, issues which were at the beginning of the twentieth century, disagreements on which the all-encompassing view of the history of the Basque Country and, on the other hand, the questioning of certain stereotypes about the Jesuits stand out. Keywords: travel story, vasquity, secularization, comparative literature.El adulto Jean Etxepare trata de expresar en su relato de viajes Beribilez (1910) la mentalidad prematura. Se quiere resaltar el esfuerzo realizado por el médico para poner en común las posiciones contrapuestas de la sociedad en torno a la unidad vasca y a la laicidad, en torno a cuestiones tan importantes a principios del siglo XX como la visión omnímoda de la historia del País Vasco y el cuestionamiento de algunos estereotipos sobre los jesuitas. How Children Develop Their Ability to Combine Words: A Network-Based Approach
No full textInternational audienceA new way to study and represent early syntactic development is introduced that offers a promising avenue to improve on standard cumulative approaches to language learning. The analysis is inspired by complex network theory and explores an important issue in psycholinguistics: how children combine words syntactically. To this end, the article exploits the longitudinal data of multiple individual studies stored and publicly available in the CHILDES database. This analysis proves useful in two regards: in coincidence with previous approaches to syntactic development, it reveals a similar linear–nonlinear pattern of syntactic development (a combination of linear periods interrupted by abrupt transitions) in typical children regardless the language they are acquiring. It also provides a straightforward objective measure of syntactic impairment in atypically developing children. A striking difference between typical and atypical children lies in the connectivity of functional words, which suddenly become hubs but only in typical development. Our technique offers a formal measure of impairment with respect to typical syntactic development, which goes beyond the standard notion of retardation in development, for the Down syndrome condition

Estos cincuenta años han dado para mucho, y se puede afirmar que FLV es hoy una publicación madura y de referencia en el campo de la lingüística vasca. Este artículo repasa brevemente el nacimiento y la historia de la publicación científica y explica de qué manera aborda la revista los retos de futuro. Finalmente, a modo de crónica, se da cuenta de las diferentes actividades y actos de conmemoración del cincuentenario, realizadas a lo largo de 2019
The Dynamics between Unified Basque & Dialects in the Northern Basque Country: A Survey Based on Perceptual Dialectology
No full textInternational audienceToday Unified Basque, a standardised written version of Basque created by the Academy of the Basque Language from the 1960s onwards and which is now widely codified, coexists alongside the Northern Basque Country's dialects (NBC, France). Understanding the relationship between these different forms of the Basque language is necessary in order to implement an appropriate language policy. In this paper we present the answers to the open-ended questions of a survey and accompanying comments. Based on Perceptual Dialectology, the questionnaire was completed by 40 people working in Basque in the NBC: writers, teachers, journalists, translators and language technicians. The main objective was to gather their opinions regarding Unified Basque and the dialects. The respondents were chosen according to the following criterion: they are all language prescribers, working in the language and providing a model of the Basque language for society. The main results of the survey are as follows: 95% of respondents think that Unified Basque is necessary in the NBC, 92.5% believe that the specificities of the NBC's linguistic varieties should be preserved, 80% that Unified Basque does not harm the NBC's dialects and more than half that there is now a form of Unified Basque specific to the NBC

No full textInternational audienceIn this work I have studied the passages in Basque included in several judicial processes from the 16th and 17th centuries. Firstly, I have explained how and why scribes collected these passages from witnesses. Afterwards, I have addressed the contribution they may make to dialectology and historical linguistics. Then, I have edited and studied testimonies from Pamplona, Urdiain, Ujue-Pitillas, Nagore and Oronoz. Finally, I have listed the linguistic features, and provided a lexicon and a list of verbs.En este trabajo he estudiado los pasajes en euskera que aparecen en algunos procesos judiciales de los siglos XVI y XVII. Primeramente, he explicado por qué y cómo recogieron los escribanos dichos pasajes de boca de los testigos. Después he tratado sobre la aportación de dichos textos a la dialectología y a la lingüística histórica. A continuación he editado y analizado testimonios de Pamplona, Urdiáin, Ujué-Pitillas, Nagore y Oronoz. Finalmente, he enumerado los rasgos lingüísticos, y aportado un lexicón y listado de verbos.Lan honetan XVI. eta XVII. mendeetako auzibide zenbaitetan ageri diren euskarazko pasarteak aztertu ditut. Hasteko, eskribauek lekukoen ahotik pasarteok nola eta zergatik jaso zizkieten azaldu dut. Ondoren, dialektologiari eta hizkuntzalaritza historikoari egin diezaieketen ekarpenaz aritu naiz. Jarraian, Iru.ea, Urdiain, Uxue-Pitillas, Nagore eta Oronozko testigantzak editatu eta ikertu ditut. Buruenik, hizkuntza ezaugarriak zerrendatu ditut, eta lexikoia eta adizkitegia atondu.Dans ce travail j’ai étudié les passages en langue basque qui apparaissent dans certains procés judiciaires du XVIe et XVIIe siècles. Tout d’abord, j’ai expliqué pourquoi et comment les scribes ont recueilli ces extraits de la bouche des témoins. J’ai abordé ensuite la contribution qu’ils peuvent apporter à la dialectologie et à la linguistique historique. No full textThis thesis characterizes the literary modernity of the Basque writer the Parisian writer Jon Mirande (H) aur besoetakoa, with the aim of determining the place (s) of this literary work in the history and history of the Basque literature.Tesi honetan Jon Mirande euskal idazle paristarraren (H)aur besoetakoa-ren modernitate literarioa ezaugarritu da, literatur lan honen lekua(k) euskal literaturaren historian zein d(ir)en zehazteko helburuarekin. Horretarako, tesiaren oinarri teorikoetan literatur modernitatetzat jotzen dena zehaztu eta honek zentsurarekin betidanik duen harreman estua azaleratu ostean, hiru bide jorratu dira: batetik, Miranderen ipuin-berria kanon bilakatu den XIX. mende amaierako eta XX.aren hastapeneko literatur Modernismoaren ezaugarri zenbaitekin konparatu da, testuak genealogia horrekikoduen harremana zertan den ulertzeko; bestetik, garaiko euskal literaturaren testuingurura eraman da konparaketa, ipuin-berriak aurreko euskal literaturarekiko zuen distantzia/hurbiltasuna aztertzeko; eta, azkenik, literatur lanaren harreraren bilakaera zer nolakoa izan den ikertu da, idatzia izan zenean zekarren modernitateak izan zuen efektu erreala zein izan zen ezagutzeko, bai eta gerora efektu horrek jarraipenik izan duen ikertzeko ere.Miranderen ipuin-berriaren modernitate literarioa ezaugarritu eta euskal literaturaren historiografian kokatzeaz gainera, aztergai den modernitate literarioaren balio kontrakulturala testuinguruan aztertzeko beharra azaleratu da, historiografiari dagokionez. Asimetrías gramaticales asociadas a la animacidad en la lengua vasca: una perspectiva tipológica
No full textInternational audienceThis study provides a typological analysis of two phenomena related to case-marking in Basque. In both of them, animacy —or the distinction between what is animate and what is not— turns out to be determinant: we discuss case assignment to direct objects, on the one hand, and marking of locative cases, on the other hand. We have compared the two phenomena with diverse typological parallels in order to account for the variety of possible morphological strategies and identify particular conditions and restrictions. Furthermore, we have argued that differential object marking in Basque is a recent phenomenon, induced by language contact, whereas differential locative marking has an intralinguistic nature. Finally, we have defended that the role of animacy in both types of differential marking is different: in the first example it conditions case assignment and in the second it operates as a grammatical gender.El presente trabajo ofrece un análisis tipológico de dos fenómenos relacionados con la marcación de caso en la lengua vasca en los que la animacidad —o la distinción entre lo animado y lo que no lo es— resulta determinante. Se trata, por un lado, de la asignación de caso al objeto directo y, por otro, de la marcación de los casos locativos. Hemos cotejado ambos fenómenos con diversos paralelos tipológicos a fin de dar cuenta de la variedad de estrategias morfológicas posibles, así como de identificar determinadas condiciones y restricciones. Además, hemos argumentado que la marcación diferencial de objeto es un fenómeno reciente en vasco, inducido por el contacto linguístico, en tanto que la marcación diferencial del locativo es de naturaleza intralinguística. Finalmente, hemos defendido que el rol de la animacidad en ambos tipos de marcación diferencial es diferente: en el primer ejemplo condiciona la asignación de caso y en el segundo opera como género gramatical
