Les sermons en basque de la maison Luisena de Redin (XVIIIème-XIXème s.): présentation, catalogage et premiers résultats de recherche
No full textInternational audienceIn this work I present a collection of old sermons in Basque discovered in Lizoain valley (Navarre). It is so far the sole extensive documentary testimony in the Basque language of that area. I explain how the discovery was made, I describe, date and catalogue the corpus and, after identifying the authors, I collect biographic data. Then, I describe some linguistic features, document the sources and talk about translation habits. I conclude that the use of Basque for predication was starting to decline in the area.Lan honetan, Lizoainibarren (Nafarroa) agertutako euskal sermoi zaharren sorta bat aurkeztu dut. Oraingoz, hango euskararen aztarna dokumental luze bakarra da. Aurkikuntza nola gertatu zen azaldu dut, corpusa deskribatu, datatu eta katalogatu dut. Egileak identifikatuta, datu biografikoak ere bildu ditut. Gainera, hizkuntz ezaugarri zenbait deskribatu, iturriak dokumentatu eta itzulpen ohiturez aritu naiz, eta, orobat, euskara predikaziorako herrian bazter gelditzen ari zela ondorioztatu dut.Dans ce travail je présente une collection de vieux sermons en basque, retrouvés à la vallée de Lizoain (Navarre). Il s’agit pour l’instant de l’unique long témoignage documentaire du basque de cet endroit. J’explique les circonstances dans lesquelles la découverte a été réalisée, je décris, date et catalogue le corpus, et, après avoir identifié les auteurs, je collecte des faits biographiques. Puis, je décris quelques traits linguistiques, je documente les sources et je traite des habitudes de traduction. J’en conclus le début du déclin de la pratique de la langue basque dans la prédication

No full textInternational audienceThis journal is verbatim a defender of popular humanism, as the editors proclaim by subtitles and notes of the publication. We've been trying to define those two concepts. What was the point of view of the society through this idea? What pedagogical consequences did this idea have, among other things? What treatment was given to vasquism, religion, and other subjects (economic development, folklore, politics...)? What about its topicality?One of the conclusions drawn is that we are facing a somewhat Catholic humanism, not far from the teachings of the Church. He is the defender of a tradition, and makes a sieve among prominent Basque historical characters. He pays homage not seldom to the humanists of the Renaissance and to the enlightened of the Enlightenment.On the other hand, there is a turmoil in the Basque world, both between the contents and the form of the language. In the first place, some subjects appear to us for the first time in Basque and outside the Christian sphere (in terms of sex, religion, etc.), and in the second place, the proposal of classical labyrinth. They feel the need for an approved language, open to innovation, but without falling into the rigidity of purity.Aldizkari honek, hitzez hitz, humanismo herrikoiaren defendatzailetzat du bere burua, hala aldarrikatzen baitute erredakziokoek agerkariaren azpi-izenburuen eta oharren bitartez. Cuando los visigodos hablaban vasco: la historia de una "malinterpretación"
No full textInternational audienceFor many treaty writers and historians from the medieval and modern periods, Basque was one of the languages created at the Tower of Babel and brought to the Iberian Peninsula by Tubal, Noah’s grandson. The Basques, who were mythologically related to the presumed first inhabitant of Spain after the Flood, had therefore withstood the coming Roman, Visigothic, and Muslim conquests, avoiding any blood, religion, or language blend. This paper, however, describes a hitherto unknown trend of thought that originated in the 16th century, which, contrary to the widely extended ideas of Tubalism, claimed that Basque was the language spoken by Visigoth tribes. We cite some of the works that support this Gothicist approach, in particular that of the Navarrese Juan Martin y Hualde, whose work is hardly known, and its origin and spread is being studied. This paper argues that its founder was Juan Arce de Otalora and that he based his view on an erroneous or opportunistic interpretation of his source, the Valencian historian Pere Antoni BeuterPara numerosos tratadistas e historiadores de época medieval y moderna, el euskera era una de las lenguas surgidas en la torre de Babel, y la que habría traído Túbal, nieto de Noé, a la península ibérica. Así, el pueblo vasco, que entroncaba mitológicamente con el considerado primer morador de España tras el Diluvio Universal, habría resistido, sin mezcla de sangre, religión ni lengua, a las posteriores conquistas romanas, visigodas y musulmanas. Sin embargo, este trabajo da cuenta de una hasta ahora desconocida corriente surgida en el siglo xvi que, en contra de la ampliamente extendida línea tubalista, defendía que el euskera era la lengua hablada por las tribus visigodas. Se citan algunas de las obras que se hacen eco de esta visión goticista, entre las que destaca ―por poco estudiada― la del navarro Juan Martín y Hualde, y se analiza su origen y difusión. Se defiende que el iniciador de la misma fue Juan Arce de Otálora, y que partió, para ello, de una interpretación errónea o interesada de su fuente, que no es otra que el historiador valenciano Pere Antoni Beuter
