AbstractPotentialities and Criticalities of the Isole Ciclopi Marine Protected AreaThe paper analyses the Isole Ciclopi Marine Protected Area facing the hamlet of Aci Trezza within the municipality of Aci Castello in the Province of Catania, Italy. It aims to describe emerging potential and critical issues, posing the question of which actors are involved in the governance. Employing a qualitative methodology, the research revealed that the main problem is the non-implementation of the so-called command-and-control method. After establishing rules and prohibitions, resources for control and imposition of sanctions are lacking. A positive note is the increase in youth volunteer activities of cleaning the sea from plastics, showing a sound interest in the environmental education proposed by cultural and environmental associations

AbstractFlowing Waters, Lasting Stories: the Lambro River as an Archive of Collective Memory The Lambro River has profoundly shaped Lombardy’s landscape and local communities throughout history. This paper aims to investigate the connection between the river and the identity of these communities by analyzing how changes in landscape have been reflected in both tangible and intangible cultural expressions. Studying this heritage offers insights into how the Lambro has been perceived and integrated into the local community’s identity over time, becoming a fundamental element of their sense of belonging. To achieve this objective, this research uses art, literature, and music, which not only portray the region but also provide valuable insights in the evolution of collective identities across generations

AbstractOne of the inspiration motif of the meeting organised at the University of Milan on 17.05.2024 has been the passage of the first Duino elegy by Rainer Maria Rilke that Ferdinando Zuccotti (1956-2023) has used to conclude his last editorial of the Rivista di Diritto Romano

Dalla Piazza d’Armi a CityLife: uno spazio in evoluzione a Milano

AbstractFrom Piazza d’Armi to CityLife: An Evolving Space in MilanOne of the most significant and recent examples of the process of reappropriation of abandoned or underused spaces in the city of Milan is the case of the recovery of the former Fiera di Milano area, now called CityLife, which began in 2007 and is now nearing completion. The project was characterized by a complete urban and structural rethinking of the area with the inclusion of tall buildings, retails and new housing units. The CityLife project, however, is only the latest in a long series of transformations, uses and redesigns that this area has undergone over the last 140 years (1884-2024). The research focuses on the analysis of the evolutionary phases of the ex Fair quadrilateral, focusing on the structural and functional changes and the ways in which this space can be used over time

Quali aree protette nella mondializzazione? Riflessioni a partire dai paesaggi agro-pastorali del Parco nazionale della Maiella

AbstractWhat Protected Areas in Globalisation? Reflections from the Agro-Pastoral Landscapes of the Maiella National ParkThis paper aims to reflect on a possible interpretation of the role that protectedareas could play in the globalization. Starting from the example of the Maiella National Park (Italy), the paper aims to highlight the role of anthropic action as a key factor that throughout history has contributed to the generation of the current forms of ecosystems, characterized in this context by high levels of biodiversity, especially from the botanical point of view. All this provides an opportunity to reflect on the constructive role played by humankind in ecological dynamics, and so to develop a critical discussion of the significance of protected areas as peculiar places of globalization, capable of conveying crucial ethical values

AbstractProtected Water Areas and Illegal Activities on Gabon’s CoastlineSince 2002, Gabon has been committed to a policy of biodiversity conservation through institutional and legal efforts to regulate and manage maritime areas. Interest in the maritime and coastal domains has led to the creation of Aquatic Protected Areas (APAs), ecosystems that are home to unique reservoirs of biodiversity. Thanks to these tools, Gabon aims to sustainably exploit and conserve its marine and coastal resources. However, this determination is undermined by a variety of illegal activities. The aim of this article is to reveal the main illegal uses perpetrated in the APAs and the means to counter them. For this purpose, a literature review was carried out, as well as a fieldwork based on semi-directive interviews with administrative agents, economic promoters and local residents of APAs

La protezione di un territorio rurale fragile: Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela (Portogallo)

AbstractThe Protection of a Fragile Rural Territory: Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela (Portugal)Protected areas are not only characterized as laboratory spaces for the conservation of the environment but also freed from human presence; rather, they are territories where it is essential to guarantee the balance between the protection regime and local socio-economic and cultural activities. This is especially relevant in areas where human presence is constantly shrinking, often associated with a continuous remodeling of the use of space. This paper explores the evolution of protected areas in Portugal, focusing on the Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela, in order to understand the relationship between the establishment of the protected area and the rural vocation that has historically characterized the territory of the most important Portuguese mountain range

Ostiliano ‘Augusto’: la tempestiva dedica della città di Keramos in Caria

AbstractHostilianus ‘Augustus’: the prompt dedication of the city of Keramos in CariaAn inscription from Keramos in Caria was placed in honour of Hostilianus during the archontate of the archiater Marcus Aurelius Valens Polites. The document – which has aroused a fair amount of interest among historians of ancient medicine, while in the sphere of ancient history studies it has curiously gone almost unnoticed – deserves particular attention, also considering the relative paucity of data we possess on this emperor and the uncertainty, still present today, regarding some crucial aspects of his albeit ephemeral reign. Inserted within the complex and variegated chronological framework of the events of the wars of the 3rd century A.D., the epigraph is actually located in a very important ‘interstitial’ space and allows us to formulate some reflections on the logic of succession to power and on dynastic and ‘paradynastic’ strategies, since both Herennius Etruscus as well as Gallus and Volusianus are absent from Keramos’ text, while Hostilianus is defined Augustus and ‘son’ of the not-yet divus Augustus Decius

Otto Lenel nel ritratto di Hugo Sinzheimer: scienza giuridica e antisemitismo nelle università tedesche fra Ottocento e Novecento

AbstractAn analysis of the portrait of Otto Lenel offered by Hugo Sinzheimer in his Jüdische Klassiker der deutschen Rechtswissenschaft (Jewish Classics of German Juris-prudence), published in 1938, allows us to reflect critically in a broader context on anti-Semitism in German culture between the 19th and 20th centuries. This analysis gives us an opportunity to unearth the roots of the prejudices which, even in the academic world, were used to justify a position incompatible with the task of their profession to cultivate the progress of science through the objective verification of every assertion
