    CAGE19-3 Cruise Report: Calypso giant piston coring in the Atlantic-Arctic gateway – Investigation of continental margin development and effect of tectonic stress on methane release

    CAGE 19-3 cruise with RV “Kronprins Haakon” to the Atlantic-Arctic gateway region is organized and funded through the Tromsø Forskningsstiftelse (TFS) and Research Council of Norway (RCN) supported SEAMSTRESS project and the Center of Excellence "CAGE – Centre for Arctic Gas Hydrate, Environment and Climate" at UiT-The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø. SEAMSTRESS focuses on studies of the effect of tectonic stress on methane release at Arctic continental margins while CAGE studies the amount of methane hydrate and magnitude of methane release in Arctic Ocean environments on time scales from the Neogene to the present. CAGE 19-3 cruise is directed to the Atlantic-Arctic gateway region to provide necessary field data for these objectives. From previous cruises, we have identified key localities which will be main targets for this cruise. The cruise may be known as: CAGE19_

    CAGE15-6 Cruise Report: Arctic gas hydrate studies

    RV Helmer Hanssen is the only vessel operating so far north (81 N) in October. One of the research questions addressed during this cruise is: Where do gas hydrate exist in the seabed and how much methane does it actually release? The CAGE 15-6 cruise explored potential gas hydrate charged sub-seabed environments and gas release zones at Storfjordrenna, Vestnesa and Svyatogor Ridge, Yermak Plateau, Sofia Basin and west of Prins Karls Foreland. Our route was traceable by www.sailwx.com. The weather forecasts from www.windyty.comwere used to prepare and adjust our cruise activities. In these Barents Sea-Arctic areas we carried out seismic profiling (mini GI 15/45 in 3 and large GI45/105 in 3) and 6 m long gravity coring for detecting gas hydrate, acoustic profiling (18, 38 and 120 kHz) for detecting gas flares in the water column, and CTD water sampling for gas analyses. Multibeam bathymetry mapping (EM300) data was collected on route for the entire cruise. We also ran echo sounder profiles along the NW Svalbard margin, across Yermak Plateau from west to east into the Sofia Basin and upslope towards the northern Svalbard margin. We reached the upper gas hydrate stability (GHSZ) theoretical outcrop zone but no acoustic evidence for extended gas release activity was found along the GHSZ outcrop zone at Yermak Plateau.     CAGE17-2 Cruise Report: Gas hydrate deposits and methane seepages in Storfjordrenna, Northern Flank of Olga Basin, and West Sentralbanken (Barents Sea): Biogeochemical and biological investigations

    The main goal of CAGE 17-2 AMGG cruise was to study the gas-hydrate-bearing system and methane emission off south and east of Spitsbergen in Storfjordrenna and the northern flank of Olga Basin (named here Olga craters) respectively, and in the West Sentralbanken. We addressed this through a comprehensive scientific program comprising dives with the MISO-Tow Cam adapted to the multicorer frame from UiT-NPI (TowCam/Multicorer, TCM), methane measurements in sediments, water column, and in air, sediment coring (multicorer + gravity corer), water column and sediment biogeochemistry, microbiology, micropaleontology, and bathymetric mapping. Cruise CAGE 17-2 was also hosting this year’s AMGG research school cruise with masters, PhD and post-doc students participating. The areas investigated were: Storfjordrenna, Pingos site (ca 380 m water depth),Northern Flank of Olga Basin (ca 140 m water depth)West Sentralbanken (ca 200 m water depth) We planned the following activities during the CAGE 17-2 cruise: EM 302 Simrad swath bathymetry mapping to identify seabed morphology Mapping of flare distributionsCTD stations at different water depths and in different areas for measurements ofocean water masses characteristics, andwater sampling for water/gas chemistry and microbiology investigations across methane seeps.TCM surveys (video-camera) to image seabed fluid flow expressions, sites of bacteria mats, crusts and gas bubbles.Repeated deployments with TCM to sample surficial and shallow sediments with respect to microbiology, geochemistry, biogeochemistry, and micropaleontology.Gravity corer for studying sediment biogeochemistry, biomarkers, microbiology, and foraminifera.Scrape sampling to collect rocks and crusts.Gas Chromatographer (GC) to measure methane concentration in the water and sediment samples.Flasks Restek, Electro-Polished Miniature Canister (1000 cc) for air samples.     Arbeidet med å skifte ut en strømstolpe i gårdshaugen Id. 9349-1 ble den 27.6.22 overvåket av arkeolog fra Norges arktiske universitetsmuseum. Usikkerhet fra tiltakshaver om grunnforhold o.l. innebar at sikringstiltak som fordret inngrep i masser som ikke allerede var omrotet ikke kunne utelukkes. Dette viste seg ikke å være nødvendig, ettersom den nye stolpen kunne plasseres i samme hull som den gamle, og sikres på samme sted. Det kunne fastslås at tiltaket ikke berørte gårdshaugens intakte områder, og neppe medførte inngrep som forstyrret annet enn moderne dyrkingslag. &nbsp

    Høsten 1939 og vinteren 1940 fikk Narvik, på grunn av den svenske jernmalmen, strategisk betydning i stormaktenes økonomiske krigføring. Dette var en følge av den britiske og franske krigserklæringen mot Nazi-Tyskland etter sistnevntes angrep på Polen i september 1939. Den 9. april 1940 var Narvik ett av stedene hvor de tyske styrkene gikk i land da de innledet sitt angrep mot Norge. I de påfølgende dagene mobiliserte 6. divisjon raskt og før måneden var over gikk nordmennene til motangrep

    Nord-Norge har en unik kombinasjon av lys- og temperaturforhold nord for Polarsirkelen. Midnattssol og et fravær av permafrost om sommeren, muliggjør verdens nordligste landbruksproduksjon - det Arktiske landbruket. Vekstsesongen her er relativt kort og kjølig, men lys døgnet rundt kan delvis oppveie for dette, ved at plantene får en lang daglig vekstperiode. Med mye lys og lite varme dyrkes det en rekke Arktiske kulturvekster med godt resultat

    Description: The Autism Spectrum Screening Questionnaire (ASSQ) was first published in 1999 by Ehlers, Gillberg and Wing. It was translated to Norwegian by Anita Eriksson and Anne Mari Sund in 1996. The instrument is developed to serve as a screening tool to identify children with possible autism spectrum disorder. Adult informants who know the child well completes the questionnaire. ASSQ has one main scale and recommended cut off values (indication possible autism) for teachers and parents. The test consists of 27 items, and no formal competency demands are listed for use or interpretation of results. Literature search: A literature search resulted in 121 articles: 21 Norwegian and 9 Swedish or Danish articles were included in the present review. The articles included documentation of interrater reliability, construct validity, criterion validity, discriminant validity, and norms for a limited age group. Mean values were found for different clinical groups (autism, cerebral palsy, neurological disorders, premature children, child born by mothers with drug abuse, or smoking during pregnancy). Conclusion: The ASSQ has excellent test-retest reliability. The test\u27s construct validity seems in general to be satisfactory, although more research is needed to test its convergence and discriminative validity. The ASSQ seems to have good properties as a screening tool for autism, as scores above cutoff identified by teachers or parents indicate possible autism spectrum disorder in need of further examination. When used in research projects, it is uncertain how accurate it is to use scores above the clinical cut-off value as a proxy for diagnosed autism, as there will be many false positives without the test results being supplemented with a thorough diagnostic assessment. The validity of using the total score as a continuous measure of where one is placed on the autism spectrum is also uncertain.Beskrivelse: Autism Spectrum Screening Questionnaire (ASSQ) ble publisert i 1999 av Ehlers, Gillberg og Wing og er oversatt til norsk av Anita Eriksson og Anne Mari Sund. Testen er utviklet for å være et screeningverktøy for å identifisere barn med mulig autismespekterforstyrrelse, beregnet på utfylling fra voksne informanter som kjenner barnet godt. ASSQ har en enkelt hovedskala og anbefalte grenseverdier (indikasjon på mulig autisme) for lærere og foreldre. Testen består av 27 ledd og det er ingen formelle kompetansekrav for bruk eller tolkning. Litteratursøk: Litteratursøk resulterte i 121 treff, hvorav 21 norske og 9 svenske eller danske artikler ble inkludert. Disse inneholdt dokumentasjon på interraterreliabilitet, begrepsvaliditet, kriterievaliditet, diskriminant validitet og normer for en avgrenset aldersgruppe. Det ble funnet middelverdier for ulike kliniske grupper (autisme, cerebral parese, nevrologiske tilstander, premature barn, barn av mødre med rusmisbruk eller røyking i svangerskapet). ASSQ har utmerket test-retest reliabilitet. Testens begrepsvaliditet synes å være tilfredsstillende, selv om det er behov for mer forskning på testens konvergerende og diskriminerende validitet. Konklusjon: ASSQ synes å ha gode egenskaper som klinisk screeningverktøy i den forstand at lærer- eller foreldrerapporterte skårer over grenseverdi indikerer mulig autismespekterforstyrrelse som bør utredes nærmere av en kliniker. Ved bruk i forskningsprosjekter er det usikkert hvor treffsikkert det er å bruke skåre over klinisk grenseverdi som proxy for diagnostisert autisme da det blir mange falske positive uten at testresultatene suppleres med en grundig diagnostisk vurdering. Validiteten til det å bruke totalskåren som et kontinuerlig mål på hvor en befinner seg på autismespekteret er også usikkert

    Artiklen præsenterer begrebet dekolonial dialektologi gennem først en teoretisk indramning i form af centrale postkoloniale og dekoloniale pointer, som dernæst illustreres med Grønland som case. Det vises hvordan kolonialisme både har haft betydning for den konkrete sproglige situation i Grønland i dag, samt det vi ved om den. Afslutningsvis præsenteres et netop påbegyndt forskningsprojekt om grønlandske dialekter hvor det forsøges at arbejde dekolonialt

    The use of object-like expressions to encode an extension in space, along which a movement is performed, is generally widespread in Saami as a whole. In this article, the term path refers to such extensions in space. The study deals specifically with the use of the accusative singular to encode path in South Saami. One of the aims of the study is to investigate the semantic properties of nouns that, inflected for the accusative singular, appear in expressions of path. Another aim is to examine how such nouns semantically and syntactically interact with spatial adverbs to encode path, and how these adverbs relate to adpositions. In addition, the article directs attention to the semantic and syntactic properties of verbs which appear in clauses where nouns inflected for the accusative singular encode path. This short study is based on a quite limited sample and aims merely to highlight features of this phenomenon, which merit future studies

    Dialektala möten i skolmiljö: Gymnasieelever talar om och på dialekt

    This article focuses on how students in two vocational upper secondary school programs talk about and speak in dialects in a geographical area where the dialect has long had a high cultural and social status. Two focus group discussions are analyzed to investigate both which perceptions of – and attitudes toward – dialects that are expressed and which dialectal features that the participants themselves actualize when in the focus group discussions. Based on a content analysis and a dialectal linguistic analysis, the article shows that the participants express definite and clear ideas and perceptions about dialects and dialectal language use, that the majority of them consider the dialect as their own and that they are proud of it. The article also shows that the students tend to position themselves by referring to their own variety of the dialect and to perceptions of ‘typical dialect speakers’. The results also show how the students use a large number of dialectal features during the two conversations.I denna artikel undersöks hur ungdomar på två olika yrkesförberedande gymnasieprogram på en gymnasieskola talar om och talar på dialekt i ett geografiskt område där dialekten länge har haft hög kulturell och social status. Två fokusgruppssamtal analyseras för att undersöka både vilka uppfattningar om – och attityder till – dialekter och dialektalt språkbruk som uttrycks samt vilka dialektala varianter som deltagarna själva använder när de samtalar med varandra. Med utgångspunkt i en innehållsanalys och en dialektal språklig analys visar resultaten att deltagarna uttrycker tämligen bestämda uppfattningar om och attityder till dialektalt språkbruk, att en majoritet av dem betraktar dialekten som sin egen och att de även är stolta över den. Resultaten visar även att ungdomarna tenderar att positionera sig själva genom att hänvisa till den egna dialekten och uppfattningar om vem som är typisk dialekttalare. Den språkliga analysen visar hur ungdomarna även använder ett stort antal dialektala varianter när de diskuterar dialekter med andra ungdomar
