Aztreonam is a monocyclic synthetic antimicrobial with bactericidal activity against Gram-negative bacteria, the first agent from the monobactam family to be therapeutically approved. It was developed and validated analytical method using high performance liquid chromatography with UV detection at 292 nm to quantify the aztreonam. Furthermore, assessing stability through stress tests was carried out. The chromatographic separation was carried out by reverse phase on an Agilent C18 column (250 x 4.6 mm, 5 µm) with a mobile phase composed of water:ethanol (70:30, v/v) adjusted to pH 2.5 with acetic acid, pumped isocratically at a flow rate of 0.5 mL/min. The validation parameters linearity, selectivity, precision, accuracy, robustness, limits of detection and quantification were determined. The method proposed provides linear response within the concentration range of 45-95 µg/mL for aztreonam. Results obtained were found to be satisfactory. The proposed method is linear, accurate, precise, selective, and robust being able to quantify the aztreonam in raw material and in pharmaceutical preparations. The validated method was suitable for applications in quality control laboratories

A VIDA DE JOANA D’ARC, UM MARTÍRIO AINDA SEM FIM

    No full text
ABSTRACT: This essay presents the fictional biography produced by Erico Verissimo in the 1930s about the martyr Joan of Arc, incorporating the history of the Hundred Years' War into the fatal trajectory of the young woman from Domrémy. Originally conceived as a call to humanism for youth, at a time of rising totalitarian regimes in Europe, the narrative is reinterpreted in this 21st century as a model of identity fragmentation, antagonism between faith and religion, social alienation, and the role of women in the face of prevailing power structures. Keywords: Joan of Arc; history and fiction; feminism; reception perspectives.RESUMO: O ensaio apresenta a biografia ficcional produzida por Erico Verissimo nos anos 1930, sobre a mártir Joana d’Arc, incorporando a história da Guerra dos Cem Anos à trajetória fatal da jovem de Domrémy.

    No full text
This article investigates the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from a critical perspective, integrating Achille Mbembe's necropolitics and the intersectionality expanded by Jasbir Puar through the concept of agency (assemblages). Focusing on the concept of the “right to mutilate,” we aim to analyze how sovereign power not only decides who lives or dies, but also uses debilitation as a biopolitical control strategy through colonial dynamics that sustain the Israeli occupation in the Palestinian territories. The text examines how practices of violence, infrastructural destruction, and intergenerational impact shape experiences of oppression and resistance, particularly among Palestinians. It highlights that these practices are not limited to immediate death but also include the economic exploitation of debilitated bodies, transformed into circulatory capital. We also explore how the intersections of race, gender, and class shape the experiences of oppression and resistance in the territory, and interact to perpetuate inequalities within the colonial context.

The article explores the dynamics between cities, gentrification, and environmental racism, focusing on childhood as an ethical compass in addressing the impacts of these processes on urban organization and the social, cultural, and historical exclusion of subaltern groups. While coloniality updates racial, geographic, and environmental inequalities, evidenced by spatial segregation and necropolitics, childhood emerges as a tool for resistance and transformation, emphasizing the power of play and the occupation of spaces as practices that reimagine and recreate the urban landscape. The article proposes a critical analysis of these phenomena, advocating for the decolonization of urban imagination and the recognition of childhood as a central agent in building more inclusive and just cities. Hepatic Cirrhosis in Nymphicus hollandicus (Cockatiel)

Background: The order Psittaciformes comprises over 350 bird species, including cockatiels (Nymphicus hollandicus), whose beauty and docility make them popular pets.  Despite the availability of commercial feeds designed to meet their nutritional needs, many owners provide high-energy seed-based diets, which unfortunately cause metabolic disorders such as hepatic steatosis and cirrhosis. These conditions result from chronic hepatocyte injury and fibrosis, but documented cases of these problems in avian species are limited. This paper reports a case of hepatic cirrhosis in Nymphicus hollandicus. Case: An 11-year-old female cockatiel was subjected to necropsy after being found dead. The owner reported a month-long history of lethargy, progressing to yellowish feces, regurgitation, and dyspnea. The diet consisted primarily of commercial seed mix, rice, and occasional bread and biscuits. Water was chlorinated and unfiltered, and vitamin supplementation was sporadic. The bird lived with three other cockatiels in a cage exposed to natural light during the day and housed indoors at night. No previous health issues were noted. Gross examination revealed no external abnormalities apart from chronic hyperkeratosis on one digit. Internally, ascites was evident, with a firm, multinodular, pale yellow liver exhibiting structural loss. The lungs showed diffuse congestion and edema, but other organs showed no significant changes. Histopathology confirmed hepatic cirrhosis, with fibrous connective tissue surrounding hyperplastic hepatocyte nodules, bile duct proliferation, lymphoplasmacytic infiltration, and hepatocellular fatty degeneration. The lungs showed severe vascular congestion, while the heart exhibited no relevant alterations. Discussion: Cirrhosis, which is rarely reported in birds, typically arises from chronic inflammation and poor dietary management. Unlike mammals, avian species lack an extensive lymphatic system, making their livers more susceptible to lipid accumulation from high-fat diets. Seed-based diets, deficient in proteins, vitamins, and minerals, exacerbate triglyceride buildup in hepatocytes, leading to hepatic steatosis and eventually, cirrhosis. Similar cases in Amazona aestiva and Psittacus erithacus reinforce the association between poor diet and liver pathology. The bird’s dyspnea was likely due to ascites-related respiratory distress, a common sequela of hepatic failure in birds, attributed to portal hypertension and decreased colloid osmotic pressure from hypoproteinemia. The presence of biliverdin-stained feces further supported hepatobiliary dysfunction. Diagnosis of hepatic diseases in birds is challenging because enzyme alterations are often nonspecific. While radiography, endoscopy, and biopsy aid in diagnosis, they are mostly available in specialized centers. Management of avian hepatic cirrhosis focuses on diet correction and hepatoprotective therapies, including plant extracts and probiotics, which show promise in modulating the progression of liver disease. Despite advances in avian nutrition, many pet cockatiels continue to receive imbalanced diets due to owner misinformation and the affordability of seeds. Nutritional mismanagement remains a primary factor in psittacine metabolic disorders, necessitating increased awareness and dietary adjustments to prevent conditions like steatosis and cirrhosis. This case underscores the consequences of inadequate nutrition, ultimately leading to fatal hepatic cirrhosis in Nymphicus hollandicus. Keywords: necrosis, fibrosis, steatosis, ascites, diet
