Perpaus ardatza duten euskal perpaus erlatiboak
This paper aims to show that Basque relative clauses are less restricted than it is commonly claimed. one of the restrictions mentioned in the literature is that sentential relative clauses, which are possible in other languages (e.g. "She gave us the evening off, which was a bit of a surprise", "nos dio la noche libre, lo que/lo cual fue una sorpresa", "elle nous a donné une soirée libre, ce qui était un peu une surprise", etc.), are not an option in Basque. This article will demonstrate that such a restriction does not correspond to reality and will show what types of sentential relative clauses exist in that language.; Artikulu honek erakutsi nahi du euskal perpaus erlatiboek ez dutela uste den adina murriztapen. Hauxe da aipatu izan diren haietako bat: euskaraz perpaus ardatza daukan perpaus erlatiborik ez dagoela, hots, beste hizkuntza batzuetan sentential relative clause delakoen bidez (“She gave us the evening off, which was a bit of a surprise”, “Nos dio la noche libre, lo que/lo cual fue una sorpresa”, “Elle nous a donné une soirée libre, ce qui était un peu une surprise”, etab.) adierazten dena ezin omen daitekeela euskaraz modu berean adieraz. Artikulu honek frogatuko du murriztapen hori ez datorrela bat errealitatearekin, baita agertuko ere zeintzuk diren perpaus bat ardatz duten euskal erlatibo motak
Exposure to second-language accent prompts recalibration of phonemic categories
Published on 6th March. We examine how first language (L1) Spanish listeners with varying levels of experience with English
recalibrate their phonemic category boundaries following exposure to second language (L2), American-
English-accented Spanish. Specifically, we examine changes to voice onset time (VOT) boundaries,
which are often positively-shifted when produced by American-English-accented Spanish speakers (as
compared to L1 Spanish speakers). Our results demonstrate that listeners make adjustments to their
phonemic category boundaries following exposure to accented words with the critical sounds in onset
position (e.g., “bailar” and “parir”, meaning “to dance” and “to give birth”, for the /b/ and /p/ phonemic
categories). In many cases generalization of phonemic learning was also observed, such that boundaries for categories that were not presented in training were also adjusted. Surprisingly, however, there were cases in which boundaries for trained categories did not show adjustments; for example, listeners trained with items for all places of articulation (POAs) showed recalibration of their bilabial and alveolar boundaries but not their velar boundary. Also notable was the role of the Spanish listeners' experience with English: More experienced listeners showed more positively-shifted (English-like) boundaries in the pre-test session. This suggests that more experienced listeners may have rapidly identified the American- English-accented Spanish and applied their English category boundaries accordingly. We conclude that listener accommodation of L2 accent is supported by a phonemic recalibration mechanism, and that experience with the L1 of an L2-accented speaker facilitates rapid recalibration of phonemic categories. This work was supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No. 101103964, the Basque Government through the BERC 2022-2025 program, and the

Grafting of Ni(acac)2 complex on hydroxyapatite support for suitable speciation of Ni and intensification of the CO2 methanation reaction
Green hydrogen (GH2) is considered one of the most promising vectors capable of leading the energy transition, to achieve net-zero carbon emissions, and to reduce reliance on traditional energy raw materials. In this sense, to address the challenging storage and transport issues, its catalytic transformation through reaction with the unavoidable emitted CO2 for synthetic natural gas (SNG) production appears to be an attractive strategy enabling the implementation of Power-to-Gas technology.
Here we report the high activity of a novel series of active materials composed of Ni(acac)2 complex grafted on hydroxyapatite (HAP) support in the CO2 methanation reaction. Optimal grafting conditions were achieved at 30 °C, yielding up to 4.6 % Ni loading (9.6 Ni at. nm−2). With reference to previously reported impregnated Ni/HAP samples, the characterization of the activated grafted catalysts shows that the grafting method seems to enhance the reducibility and improve the dispersion of supported Ni species exhibiting smaller average sizes (3.2–6.3 nm). The activated Ni(acac)2/HAP grafted catalysts demonstrated a promising performance in the CO2 methanation reaction, shedding light on their suitability and competitiveness when compared with reference materials. The optimized Ni(acac)2/HAP-(5) sample exhibits a T50 value close to 313 °C and its maximum conversion (84 %) can be achieved at 400 °C. On the other hand, it is found a clear correlation between turnover frequency (TOF) values and the relative abundance of easily reducible Ni species as well as the most reactive basic sites. Water addition temporarily reduces the activity; however, this effect is reversible since the activity is fully restored upon water removal. The authors are indebted to the I + D + i project CNS2022-135152 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/ and the European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTR and the Basque Government (IT1509-2022) for the financial support. From teaching for war to acknowledging vulnerability: A cartography of gender and mistake-handling in mathematics education
This paper looks at the impact of gender on the way mistakes are managed in mathematics
education. It first describes the historical interweaving of error, mathematics and gender.
Subsequently, using microsociology based on a feminist and socio-constructivist paradigm,
it documents and analyses both practicing and trainee mathematics teachers’ experiences
of error. We identify the effects of hegemonic masculinity on contexts of mathematical
teaching and learning. With respect to mistake-handling related experiences, this manifests
as competitiveness and aggressiveness, which have significant ramifications for student
participation, particularly in the case of women. In response, we propose metacognition assisted solving of problems with a low floor and a high ceiling as means to move away
from mathematics education for war towards the recognition of vulnerabilit
A Skid Resistance Predicting Model for Single Carriageways
Skid resistance, or friction, on a road surface is a critical parameter in functional highway assessments, given its direct relationships with safety and accident frequency. Therefore, road administrations must collect friction data across their road networks to ensure safe roads for users. In addition, having a predictive model of skid resistance for each road section is essential for an efficient pavement management system (PMS). Traditionally, road authorities disregard rural roads, since they are more focused on freeways and traffic-intense roads. This study develops a model for predicting minimum-available skid resistance, which occurs in summer, measured using the Sideway-force Coefficient Routine Investigation Machine (SCRIM), on bituminous pavements in the single-carriageway road network of the Province of Gipuzkoa, Spain. To this end, traffic volume data available in the PMS of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, such as the annual average daily traffic (AADT) and the AADT of heavy vehicles (AADT.HV), were uniquely used to forecast skid-resistance values collected in summer. Additionally, a methodology for eliminating outliers is proposed. Despite the simplicity of the model, which does not include information about the materials at the surface layer, a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.439 was achieved. This model can help road authorities identify the roads for which lower skid-resistance values are most likely to occur, allowing them to focus their attention and efforts on these roads, which are key infrastructure in rural areas. This research was funded by Gipuzkoako Foru Aldundia/Diputación Foral de Gipuzkoa, under grant number: P9, Project ‘Gipuzkoan eraikuntza eta mugikortasun adimentsu eta jasangarria/Construcción y movilidad inteligentes y sostenibles en Gipuzkoa’ of the Etorkizuna Eraikiz program 2022, and grant number: P10, Project ‘MUGI JASS (MUgikortasuna Gipuzkoan: Interkonektatua, JASangarria eta Segurua/Movilidad en Gipuzkoa: interconectada, sostenible y segura)’ of the Etorkizuna Eraikiz program 2024, as well as by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), under grant number: GIU21/046
Prest al daude eskolak eta hezkuntzako profesionalak Autismoaren Espektroko Nahasmendua duten haurrak ezagutzeko eta laguntzeko?
61 p. -- Bibliogr.: p. 38-40Autismoaren Espektroko Nahasmendua (AEN) neurogarapenaren nahasmendu konplexua da, garuneko konektibitatearen aldaketen ondorioz sortua eta pertsonaren komunikazioan, elkarrekintza sozialean eta portaera-patroietan eragina duena. Gaur egun, hezkuntza-sistemek erronka handia dute aurrean: ikasle guztien inklusioa bermatzea, beren ezaugarrien eta beharren arabera. Gradu Amaierako Lan honen helburu nagusia da irakasleek AENa duten haurren arretari eta inklusioari buruz duten ikuspegia aztertzea, irakasleen ikuspegitik. Ikerketa honetan hezkuntzako 29 profesionalek parte hartu zuten, 25 emakume (%86,2) eta 4 gizon (%13,8). Denek ikerketa honetarako sortutako 19 galderaz osatutako galdetegia erantzun zuten. Jasotako emaitzek adierazten dute irakasleen gehiengoak AENari buruzko ezagutza orokorra baduela, eta konpromisoa erakusten duela haur horien inklusioaren alde lan egiteko. Hala ere, prestakuntza espezifikoaren gabeziak eta baliabide materialen urritasuna nabarmenak dira oraindik. Horren aurrean, lan honetan gida praktiko bat proposatzen da, irakasleei esku-hartze estrategiak eta egokitzapenak eskaintzeko. Gida horrek orientazioa ematen du gelako egokitzapenei, komunikazioaren hobekuntzari eta familien parte-hartzeari dagokienez. AENa duten ikasleen inklusioa ez da soilik printzipio pedagogiko bat, baizik eta giza eskubideen kontua, eta horregatik, ezinbestekoa da hezkuntza-eragile guztiek ikuspegi barneratzailea hartzea
Gizarte-langintzaren oinarriak eta metodologia
102 pGau baterako ohea ziurtatzea, jendeari otoika eskatuta eta biharkoa ziurtatu gabe, onargarria da, edo duintasuna beheratzen dio gizakiari? Eta, bestalde, egunekoa konpontzen bada, zer ardura dio lortzeko moduari hainbeste erreparatzeak? Edo, zergatik ez baliatu gizakiek berez duten borondate ona arazo horiek, egunez egun, konpontzeko?
Beste gaietan gertatzen den bezala, «zer da gizarte-langintza?» galdera egiten dugunean, zalantzak eta eztabaidak gehiago dira ziur-ziurrean baiezta daitekeena baino. Baina zer besterik itxaron liteke giza edo gizarte-zientzia batetik? Gizakien arteko desberdintasunak eta jokamolde desberdinak onartzen baditugu, gizakiez ari den diziplina batetik zer besterik itxaron liteke, desberdintasuna baino?
Lan honetan, zalantzak eta eztabaidak agerrarazteari ere tarte handia eskaintzen zaio, eta, irakurlearen ezerosotasunerako agian, zalantza eta eztabaida horiei ez zaie konponbiderik edo azken hitzik ematen. Nahikoa luke irakurleak zalantza eta eztabaidaren mamiaz jabetzearekin momentuz, benetako konponbidea edo azken hitza norberak landu eta ebatzi behar baitu, lan horretarako urteak edo bizitza osoa behar badezake ere.
«Gizarte-langintza zer den» azaltzeko muga horiek aurretik ezagututa, ezagut ditzagun lan honen mugak. Izan ere, apunte itxurako testuliburua duzu hau, gehienbat gizarte-langintzako ikasleengan pentsaturik sortua, beste batzuei on egin diezaiekeen arren. Bertan agertuko diren datuak, informazioak edo galderak ohikoak dira gizarte-langintzaren barruan, eta beste testuliburu batzuetan ere ager daitezke
Integrated geological study in an offshore renewable energy test site: a case from the Basque continental shelf (Bay of Biscay, Spain)
[EN]Testing and research centres for offshore renewable energy, exemplified by facilities like BIMEP (Biscay Marine Energy Platform) on the Basque coast of Spain, play a crucial role in driving the energy transition. This study utilises pre-existing data at the facility site, such as high-resolution bathymetry and granulometric information from sediment samples, to conduct a comprehensive geological analysis including both sedimentary and rocky seabed. A litho-structural analysis is presented, including a lithological prediction for the continental shelf, the recognition of the main structures, such as NW-trending folds and predominantly NE-SW oriented fractures, and a detailed fracture analysis. Sedimentary seabeds are analysed through a Seabed Sediment Map, illustrating a granulometry-based NE-SW oriented banded distribution. Bedforms are also studied, they are asymmetric and mainly oriented NE-SW. The Seabed Sediment Map and the bedform analysis reveal the effect of an SE-directed bottom current as the main mechanism controlling sediment mobility. This current matches with the predominant swell from the NW and with the direction of the most energetic waves in the area. This approach could serve as a methodological example, offering a cost-effective means for the preliminary geological characterisation of offshore energy sites, and is crucial for establishing a baseline (‘zero state’) before the deployment. This baseline is essential for evaluating and mitigating the impact of new infrastructure on sediment dynamics, which subsequently affects the overall functioning and health of the marine ecosystem. This work was supported by project PID2022-136948NB-100/AEI/https://doi.org/10.13039/501100011033/FEDER, UE (Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation), project GIU23/003 (University of the Basque Country, UPV/EHU), project EUSK22/05 (Euskampus Fundazioa) and project EUSK22/09 (Euskampus Fundazioa)
Influence of patient gender on in-hospital mortality: A population-based cross-sectional study
Aim
To analyse the association between gender and in-hospital mortality odds ratios among patients in the Basque Country.
Design
Cross-sectional study.
Methods
Admission data pertaining to the period between 1 January 2016 and 31 December 2018 were gathered for all registered acute care hospitals (both public and private) in the Basque Country. Odds ratios were calculated through binomial logistic regressions to determine the association between gender and mortality in each diagnostic category of the ICD-10.
Results
Women had a higher in-hospital mortality odds ratio for diseases of the circulatory system (OR 1.07 [1.01–1.14], p < 0.05). In contrast, men were at greater risk of in-hospital death from neoplasms (OR 0.86 [0.83–0.94], p < 0.05), diseases of the nervous system (OR 0.83 [0.70–0.97], p < 0.05), diseases of the genitourinary system (OR 0.83 [0.71–0.96], p < 0.05), endocrine diseases (OR 0.67 [0.54–0.84], p < 0.05), injury, poisoning and other consequences of external causes (OR 0.60 [0.54–0.67], p < 0.05) and diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue (OR 0.69 [0.50–0.93], p < 0.05).
