    No full text
They represented a questioning of the traditional dimensions of dance learning that involved both the discovery of the principles of body technique through an understanding of the laws of physics in relation to movement and the anatomy of each body, and the creative and personal involvement of the dancer. These techniques promote a transformation in the way of thinking movement, which in turn becomes a way of generating thought about the body, personal engagement and the social vision of the art of dance. The purpose of this article is to provide a theoretical contextualisation of the humanistic and pedagogical foundations of postmodern release and contact-improvisation techniques. The methodology is based on a bibliographical compilation and critical analysis that begins with a theoretical consideration of the research paradigm and moves down to the teaching styles under which both techniques are found

Shooting the Messenger? Harassment and Hate Speech Directed at Journalists on Social Media

    No full text
Journalists have incorporated social networks into their work as a standard tool, enhancing their ability to produce and disseminate information and making it easier for them to connect more directly with their audiences. However, this greater presence in the digital public sphere has also increased their exposure to harassment and hate speech, particularly in the case of women journalists. This study analyzes the presence of harassment and hate speech in responses (n = 60,684) to messages that 200 journalists and media outlets posted on X (formerly Twitter) accounts during the days immediately preceding and following the July 23 (23-J) general elections held in Spain in 2023. The results indicate that the most common forms of harassment were insults and political hate, which were more frequently aimed at personal accounts than institutional ones, highlighting the significant role of political polarization—particularly during election periods—in shaping the hostility that journalists face. Moreover, although, generally speaking, the total number of harassing messages was similar for men and women, it was found that a greater number of sexist messages were aimed at women journalists, and an ideological dimension was identified in the hate speech that extremists or right-wing populists directed at them. This study corroborates that this is a minor but systemic issue, particularly from a political and gender perspective. To counteract this, the media must develop proactive policies and protective actions extending even to the individual level, where this issue usually applies

[EN] Popular literature is an educational resource with great didactic potential. This Final Degree Project has explored this value in the context of primary education by proposing an innovative teaching material. Based on a qualitative analysis of twenty Basque folk tales compiled by Juan Kruz Igerabide, reading material in the form of a sticker album has been designed for a target group aged between 6 and 9 years old. In line with SDG 18, it aims to promote the development of cultural identity and reading through the use of Basque as the language of instruction. Although it has not been implemented in a real educational context, the results suggest its potential to strengthen cultural identity, interest in heritage and the meaningful use of Basque

Global patterns of colouration complexity in the Paridae: Effects of climate and species characteristics across body regions

    No full text
    1. Avian plumage colouration is an iconic example of trait variability among species. Sexual, social and natural selection, and the environmental variables modulating them are the main drivers of this variability. 2. So far, most research exploring environmental effects on the variability of plumage colouration has focused on the variation in overall plumage darkness. Research on other aspects of colour variation, such as the diversity of colours exhibited by a species (i.e. colour complexity), is limited and has produced inconsistent results. Furthermore, colour complexity has mostly been analysed at the whole-plumage level, despite the possibility that the colour complexity of different plumage patches may be sensitive to different environmental factors. 3. Here, we quantify male and female colouration in 58 species of the family Paridae, and use multi-predictor Bayesian phylogenetic mixed models to estimate the relationship of colouration with biotic and climatic variables that quantify environment, and with several species-specific characteristics. We consider both the colouration of the whole plumage and the colouration of four separate colour patches (head, chest, back and wing). 4. We find that Paridae species in climates with intermediate temperatures present more complex colouration than do species in warmer/colder climates. In addition, males, relatively small species, and species with relatively greater sexual dichromatism have more complex plumage colouration. We find that the numbers of predators and sympatric conspecifics are more associated with female colouration than with male colouration. Finally, the strength of the associations with colour complexity is specific to each plumage region: species recognition, beak size and climate variables related to competition for reproductive resources (i.e. precipitation seasonality) are more strongly associated with colouration complexity of the head and breast than with that of the back and wing. 5. Overall, our results illustrate the importance of climatic and social variables, the link between colour complexity and dichromatism in both sexes, and the analysis of distinct plumage areas for understanding global patterns of colouration complexity and the processes that promote them. [EN] Elements of cultural heritage are living entities with a history that is sometimes marked on its surface by means of different types of alterations (stains, wearing, graffiti, erosion, etc.). The discipline of conservation-restoration aims to preserve the materiality of these elements and presents them to users in a suitable manner; but it is also aware of the historic interest of some of these alterations and, consequently they cannot be just erased without being documented and explained. This is precisely the starting point of the present contribution, where the comparison of decay patterns in different elements of a building —the regional museum of archaeology and ethnography of Najera (La Rioja, Spain)— is explored as a complementary methodology to analyse the material history of the building. As many of these alterations have influence in the three-dimensional geometry of the surfaces and the texture, they can be monitored by means of the products that are generated during the geometric documentation works. The text presents a methodology for the study structured in four stages and draws some conclusions about the potential of this approach.Instituto de Estudios Riojanos (IER), Gobierno de La Rioj

Connecting AGN to Host Galaxy Properties

    No full text
226 p.Supermassive Black Holes (SMBHs) have been established to be at the center of all massive galaxies. Some of these are known to be accreting matter from their host galaxies, dubbed as Active GalacticNuclei (AGN). It is now known that AGN and their host galaxies coevolve. However, a clear concisedoes not exist if this coevolution is causal or casual. This thesis explores the coevolution of these AGN and their host galaxies from largest to the smallestscales. First, utilizing data from the Galaxy and Mass Assembly (GAMA) survey, we compare the largescale environments of 205 Quasars at z < 0.35 against a robust Markov chain Monte Carlos (MCMC)sample of 205,000 inactive galaxies matched in terms of both stellar mass and redshift. The resultsassert that there is no significant difference between the environment of active and inactive galaxies, implying that stochastic processes are the dominant triggers of AGN at low redshift.Second, we compare the global and spatially resolved star formation rates (SFR) and specific starformation rates (sSFR) of AGN and non-AGN host galaxies. We compare the properties of 32 X-rayselected AGN using data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory and XMM-Newton survey against amass matched control sample. Stellar masses and SFR are obtained by fitting Spectral EnergyDistributions (SED) of galaxies with 60 optical narrow-band multi-wavelength data from the miniJPASSurvey, which is a 1 deg2 preview of the upcoming Javalambre-Physics of the Accelerated UniverseAstrophysical Survey (J-PAS) survey. Our results show that while there are no differences between theglobal properties of X-ray AGN and non-AGN host galaxies, their sSFR profiles exhibit the exactopposite trend. This suggests that X-ray AGN quench their host galaxies in the central regions, whilesimultaneously pushing gas to the outskirts of their host galaxy where star formation takes place, forexample by compression of gas due to positive feedback.Following up on the results of our X-ray AGN host galaxies, we examine the radial profiles of RadioAGN host galaxies in the third part of this thesis. We use 12 band optical data from the JavalambrePhotometric Local Universe Survey (J-PLUS), which is another prelude to the J-PAS survey covering3,192 deg2 of the northern sky. Then, we use data from the Low-Frequency Array (LOFAR) survey tocross-match and select a sample of 441 Radio AGN hosts in the J-PLUS field at z < 0.15 and comparetheir radial profiles against a Baldwin, Phillips & Terlevich (BPT) diagram selected star forming sample. The results corroborate our findings for X-ray AGN, which posit a radially increasing sSFR for RadioAGN host galaxies. This reaffirms the result that AGN quench their hosts in the center, while enhancingtheir sSFR on the outskirts of galaxies. Moreover, examining the M¿¿MBH scaling relation, we find thathighly star forming galaxies lie above scaling relation observed for local galaxies, whereas quenchedgalaxies like below the local relation, with the average Eddington rate (¿Edd) being~2%

The figure of José Antonio Ponte Picavea is key for those who want to understand the architecture of Gipuzkoa in the mid-twentieth century. Three studies on Spatial Power Indices

    No full text

Risk, return and strategy essays on selected challenges for decarbonization

    No full text
181 p.This thesis explores the critical interplay between risk, return, and strategic decision-making in the decarbonization of electricity systems. Central to the discussion is the recognition that a successful transition to a low-carbon society requires integrating renewable energy sources through well-designed strategies capable of appropriately allocating and managing risk among key stakeholders, particularly policymakers, investors, and end-consumers. We present three essays, each devoted to a different chapter, in which we study different selected challenges in this energy transition context. This thesis has been funded by the Basque Government’s Department of Science, Universi-ties, and Innovation through predoctoral grants PRE_2021_1_0058, PRE_2022_2_0154, PRE_2023_2_0222, and PRE_2024_2_0172. Support from the Basque Government through grant IT1461-22, from MINECO through grant PID2022-139458NB-I00, and from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) through grant EHU-N23/50 is gratefully acknowledged
