    No full text

A fix-propagate-repair heuristic for mixed integer programming

We describe a diving heuristic framework based on constraint propagation for mixed integer linear programs. The proposed approach is an extension of the common fix-and-propagate scheme, with the addition of solution repairing after each step. The repair logic is loosely based on the WalkSAT strategy for boolean satisfiability. Different strategies for variable ranking and value selection, as well as other options, yield different diving heuristics. The overall method is relatively inexpensive, as it is basically LP-free: the full linear programming relaxation is solved only at the beginning (and only for the ranking strategies that make use of it), while additional, typically much smaller, LPs are only used to compute values for the continuous variables (if any), once at the bottom of a dive. While individual strategies are not very robust in finding feasible solutions on a heterogeneous testbed, a portfolio approach proved quite effective. In particular, it could consistently find feasible solutions in 189 out of 240 instances from the public MIPLIB 2017 benchmark testbed, in a matter of a few seconds of runtime. The framework has also been implemented inside the commercial MIP solver Xpress and shown to give a small performance improvement in time to optimality on a large internal heterogeneous testbed

Interpretation and management of T wave inversion in athletes: An expert opinion statement of the Italian Society of Sports Cardiology (SICSPORT)

T wave inversion (TWI) on the electrocardiogram (ECG) is a relatively common finding in athletes. It poses a diagnostic challenge, as it can indicate either a benign physiological pattern or an early sign of serious cardiac pathology. This expert opinion statement provides a comprehensive review of the current understanding of TWI in athletes, emphasizing the importance of its localization, associated clinical features, and demographic factors in guiding its interpretation and management. We explore the potential causes of TWI, including physiological adaptations such as the juvenile pattern and training-induced repolarization variants, as well as pathological conditions like cardiomyopathies, ion channel diseases, and other cardiac abnormalities. Additionally, we discuss the implications of TWI in different ECG leads-anterior, inferior, and lateral-and the diagnostic work-up needed to exclude underlying disease. The importance of follow-up in athletes with TWI is highlighted, particularly for young athletes, to monitor the potential development of cardiomyopathy. Finally, we address considerations for sports eligibility in athletes with TWI, stressing the need for a balanced approach that ensures athlete safety without imposing unnecessary restrictions and investigations

Clinical and radiographic outcomes of extra-short implants (≤ 6 mm) in the posterior atrophic jaws: a retrospective cohort study

Objective: This study aimed at investigating implant survival rate and marginal bone loss (MBL) around extra-short implants. The impact of the loading protocol and of the use of an intermediate abutment was also evaluated, to explore possible differences in terms of the outcome measures. Materials and methods: Patients with single or multiple mandibular or maxillary posterior edentulism rehabilitated using extra-short 5-6 mm long implants were included. Different prosthetic protocols were used. Clinical and radiological follow-up was 5 years. The outcomes measures were implant survival and MBL. Results: The analysis included 56 implants placed in 34 adults (12 males and 22 females; mean age 60 years, SD 11). Six implants failed during a median follow-up of 5 years and 4 of them were recorded in one patient at 2-year follow-up. The 5-year implant survival was 89% overall (87% in conventional and 94% in immediate loading). At univariate analysis, during follow-up immediate loading was associated with higher MBL (mean variation 0.21 mm, 95%CI 0.01 to 0.40; p = 0.02), while intermediate abutment was associated with lower MBL (mean variation -0.23 mm, 95%CI -0.39 to -0.09; p = 0.003). Multivariable analysis confirmed that immediate loading was associated with higher MBL. Conclusion: Within its limitations, this study showed that extra-short implants under immediate loading conditions can be a reliable solution. The application of horizontal and vertical platform switching with the use of intermediate abutments seems to be able to contribute to the reduction of MBL

    No full text
Il Mondo creato is a “sacred poem” in which Torquato Tasso narrates the seven days of Creation. He attempts to reconcile the truth of science and revelation in the truth of the poetic world, according to a conception of faith common to both hexameronal literature and to Dionysian as well Pichian Platonism. The representation of the miracle is intended to reveal God’s heavenly Book through the Book of Nature, in a language similar to that of emblems or feats. By using techniques of evidentia such as energia, ekphrasis, the ‘negative formula’, the poet aims to arouse wonder in the reader-spectator, that is, an affect that produces an inner illumination. Animals obtain the specific function of making manifest the miracle of animated life. They stage an exemplary theatre of passions and virtues that educates the reader’s affects and reveals “by degrees” the mystery of Redemption through the relationship of analogy with Christ

    No full text
