    Suspicion of a teenager with Duchenne disease in the pediatrics department of Sainte Thérèse De Hinche Hospital

    Duchenne disease is caused by a deletion of the gene coding for dystrophin. The absence of this protein is responsible for the myonecrosis observed during the evolution of the pathology. It is X-linked recessive which explains its occurrence, especially in boys. The manifestation of the disease begins in 3 years - 5 years, and the life expectancy is 20 years - 30 years.In the classic clinic, we have gait disorders, kyphoscoliosis, pseudo hypertrophy of the calves, and a positive Gower’s sign. Cardiorespiratory impairment is often incriminated as the cause of death in these patients. Management is based on physiotherapy and corticosteroid therapy. In the event of a cardio-respiratory manifestation, the use of positive pressure ventilation, and anti-hypertensives such as ACE inhibitors and beta-blockers may be necessary.We will discuss the 10 years old patients who present with the classic symptoms of Duchenne disease and how we managed it in a low-income country.</p

    Prevalence of anxiety and depression in ecuadorian adolescents

    Objective: To determine the prevalence and incidence of anxiety disorders and depression with loneliness in a sample of adolescents.&nbsp;Material and methodology: Quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional study including 330 Ecuadorian adolescents selected by non-probabilistic purposive sampling. The Ad Hoc Questionnaire, the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21), and the UCLA Loneliness Scale were used for data collection.&nbsp;Results: Of the 330 adolescents, 65.5% were male, and the mean age was 16.8 years. Sixty, 60% are in their third year of high school and 39.4% are in their second year. Most of them live in the province of Pichincha 36.1%. In anxiety they present an average of 6.4 and in depression of 5.7; they have an average of 42 in loneliness. There is a positive correlation between anxiety, depression and loneliness. Finally, females have higher levels of depression.&nbsp;Conclusion: Adolescents do not present anxiety or depression disorders, however, they present high levels of loneliness. There is a positive correlation between anxiety, depression, and loneliness, that is, the higher the levels of loneliness, the higher the probability that adolescents present anxiety or depression. Likewise, there is evidence of higher levels of depression in females.</p

    Face morphometric profiles of groups as early markers for certain diseases?

    Background: Face morphometry has been shown to work as a diagnosis tool in a set of syndromes. Face similarities are usually indications of more complete genetic similarities.&nbsp;Purpose: To show preliminary results on the face morphometry profile of the Cuban population and to argue that it could be used to define early markers for diseases like Alzheimer’s.&nbsp;Methods: A dataset composed of photos of 200000 men is processed. Facial landmarks are extracted by means of the DLIB library and distances between them are computed. By clustering samples with similar facial traits, groups are formed and their densities inside the population are computed.&nbsp;Results: The face morphometry profiles for two age cohorts are obtained, showing the population dynamics. Genes involved in facial development are shown to be related to Alzheimer’s disease.&nbsp;Conclusion: Late multifactorial diseases develop against the genetic background of each individual, which is expressed by its face morphometry. The latter can be thus considered a risk marker.</p

    The spatial and temporal variations of satellite measurements correspond to different physical connotations. ENA imaging is an effective method to avoid the confusion of spatial and temporal variations of plasma space distribution in remote sensing region. However, for the neutral atom imager with scanning sampling, if the sampling time is too long (such as exceeding the evolution period of related physical events), it is still necessary to carefully analyze the time change factors of the space environment during the sampling period. Our re-certification of ENA scanning images of the IBEX-Hi’s “terrestrial plasma sheet disconnection” revealed that a magnetospheric substorm occurred during sampling, most likely due to the pitch angle diffusion of energetic ions in the ring current to create the so-called “plasma sheet disconnection” illusion. The observation of ENA imaging reflects the motion pattern of its parent ions, which have a certain distance from space plasma visualization. The dynamic evolution of ring current energetic ion diffusion has inspired us to create a new macroscopic model of substorms that can be visually monitored in the ecliptic plane using ENA imaging.</p

The present review indicates that viral diseases are been entangled in various cancer developments. Developing safe and effective antiviral medications remains a challenge. As a result, finding therapeutic targets that would interfere with the virus without affecting the host is hard-hitting. The use of natural substances rather than chemicals in the formulation of antiviral medications could significantly minimize the risk of side effects in patients. Coastal dune vegetation is a vital resource, which plays an imperative part in biodiversity. Coastal dunes have various utilizations in restorative and drug development. The drugs from marine are vitally been utilized as medicine due to their substantial antiviral, anticancer, and antimicrobial activities. Though Coastal dunes flora has numerous possessions their antiviral properties are rarely reported. Hence, in this report, we have compiled and highlighted the antiviral properties of 128 Indian coastal dune flora. This review may provide access to a profound understanding of coastal dunes’ vegetation resources and their usage in the production of antiviral and anticancer drugs. It may also help to preserve and cultivate these plants.</p

    Deep learning-based object detection for smart solid waste management system

    Currently in Ethiopia, pollution and environmental damage brought on by waste increased along with industrialization, urbanization, and global population levels. Waste sorting, which is still done improperly from the household level to the final disposal site, is a prevalent issue. Real-time and accurate waste detection in image and video data is a crucial and difficult task in the intelligent waste management system. Accurately locating and classifying these wastes is challenging, particularly when there are various types of waste present. So, a single-stage YOLOv4-waste deep neural network model is proposed. In this study, a deep learning algorithm for object detection using YOLOv4 and YOLOv4-tiny is trained and evaluated. A total of 3529 waste images are divided into 7 classes, which include, cardboard, glass, metal, organic, paper, plastic, and trash. Each model uses three various inputs throughout the testing phase, including input images, videos, and webcams. Experiments with hyper-parameters on subdivision values and mosaic data augmentation were also done in the YOLOv4-tiny model. The outcome demonstrates that YOLOv4 performs better than YOLOv4-tiny for object detection specifically for waste detection. The outcome shows that YOLOv4 performs better than YOLOv4-tiny for object detection, even if YOLOv4-tiny’s scores are higher in terms of computing speed. The best results from the YOLOv4 model reach mAP 91.25%, precision 0.91, recall 0.88, F1-score 0.89, and Average IoU 81.55%, while the best YOLOv4-tiny results are mAP 82.02%, precision 0.75, recall 0.76, F1-score 0.75, and Average IoU 63.59%. This research also proves that the models with smaller subdivision values and using a mosaic have optimal performance.</p

    Anti-synthetase syndrome with positive anti-PL-12 antibodies associated with autoimmune hepatitis: case report and literature review

    Antisynthetase Syndrome (ASS) is a rare chronic autoimmune disorder, associated with interstitial lung diseases (the most important feature), such as Dermatomyositis (DM) and Polymyositis (PM). The cause of ASS is unknown. The hallmark of ASS is the presence of serum autoantibodies directed against aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (anti-ARS involved in protein synthesis). Anti -Jo1 is the most common (20% - 30%); anti-PL12 is present in 2% - 5% of SAS, associated with Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) in 90%, mainly as Non-Specific Interstitial Pneumonia (NSIP). Autoimmune hepatitis is related to rheumatological diseases (2.7% - 20% in systemic lupus erythematosus, 6% - 47% in primary Sjögren’s syndrome), however, is rare in patients with inflammatory myopathies, and there is no previous reported association with SAS. A literature search was carried out using the PubMed and EMBASE databases in English and Spanish. Our case, a 62-year-old woman who developed polyarthritis, with progressive dyspnea, facial and lower limb edema, proximal muscle weakness, and Raynaud’s phenomenon; high-resolution chest CT, showing pulmonary interstitial disease, consistent with Nonspecific Interstitial Pneumonia (NSIP). She had elevated transaminases and a prolonged prothrombin time, with positive anti-nuclear and anti-smooth muscle antibodies, and was made a diagnosis with autoimmune hepatitis type 1 (HAI). According to this presentation and reports of the literature review, anti-PL12 patients are characteristically associated with a severe phenotype of lung inflammation, that does not necessarily require myositis manifestation. To our knowledge, there is not any case of the antisynthetase syndrome and autoimmune hepatitis reported previously in the literature.</p

    Laparoscopic resolution of Wünderlich syndrome as a primary treatment

    Background: Spontaneous Retroperitoneal Hemorrhage, named Wünderlich Syndrome (WS) is usually managed by emergency surgeons with a conventional laparotomy. The aim is to report a patient with WS successfully treated by a laparoscopic approach avoiding open surgery.&nbsp;Methods: A 50-year-old female was diagnosed with WS hemodynamic instability and flank pain. After a normal CT scan that discarded visceral injuries and stabilized, the patient underwent a laparoscopic renal exploration.&nbsp;Results: Laparoscopic approach was as standard transperitoneal renal access. Fortunately, the hematoma was within Gerota fascia meaning a non-complex surgery. Due to the high R.E.N.A.L. score, it was necessary to complete a radical nephrectomy. Surgical time was 120 minutes without perioperative complications and the renal unit was retrieved using a Pfannenstiel incision. Estimate blood loss was not quantified. Finally, the hospital stay was 24 hrs.Conclusion: Laparoscopic approach could be performed in selected patients with WS especially when are hemodynamic stabilized with no visceral injury associated. Immediately treatment could facilitate the procedure because it avoids adherences or fibrosis due to hematoma. Experience in the laparoscopic approach is necessary.&nbsp;</p

    Demonstration of Rhodes grass (<em>Chloris gayana</em> Kunth) varieties at selected highland and midland agro-ecologies of Guji zone, Oromia, Ethiopia

    Guji zone has different agro-ecologies suitable for livestock production. However, grazing land was shrinking for the production of feed which is the most pre-request for livestock production. As a result, farmers used pasture and crop residues which are insufficient and not available during the dry season. Hence, there was a feed shortage at different agroecologies. Rhodes grass is used as livestock feed, soil, and water conservation but improved Rhodes grass varieties were not intensively produced by farmers and hence feed shortage is affecting the supply of livestock products for household consumption. Improved Rhodes grass is the possible solution for feed shortage due to it is intensively harvested throughout the year and ensures feed availability for livestock. Therefore, a demonstration of Rhodes grass is needed on a farmer’s field. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of Rhodes grass on farmers’ plots. Adola Rede (midland agroecology) and Ana Sora (highland agroecology) were selected based on their livestock and Rhodes grass production potential. Masaba and ILRI-7384 Rhodes grass varieties were demonstrated on a 50 m2 plot area. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. Accordingly, the Masaba variety was highly performed in plant height (108.6 cm), fresh biomass (4.24t/ha), and survival rate (83.4%) than ILRI-7384 accession at both agroecologies. Except in seed yield at the highland area in all traits, the Masaba variety was well performed than ILRI-7384. The result of one-way ANOVA revealed that across agroecology fresh biomass yield and survival rate of Masaba was a statistically significant difference at 10% and 5% respectively. Farmers liked to produce Rhode grass varieties. Fresh biomass and survival rate was important trait obtained from the Masaba variety in both agro-ecologies. Thus, the Masaba variety was recommended for livestock feed at highland and midland agro-ecologies of the Guji zone.</p

    Affected by human activities, the living environment of aquatic wildlife in Bohai Bay and Huanghai Bay of our country is deteriorating day by day. In accordance with the animal protection law and other relevant laws and regulations, our country has formulated an action plan and an action plan for the protection of leopard seals. The Action Plan is based on the multi-dimensional vision of the natural environment, the balance of nature, sustainable development and human care, in 2021, the Leopard Seal is listed as a first-class protected animal in the country. This paper expounds on the survival status of the spotted seal population by searching the judgments of criminal cases, administrative cases and on-the-spot investigation on the judgment network, this paper analyzes the main reasons for the endangered population of spotted seal and puts forward the corresponding protection countermeasures.</p
