    IoT-based winter season crop prediction using machine learning on Vyas municipality ward No-13, Nepal

    The agricultural system in Nepal is facing a decline primarily due to its traditional practices. Farmers’ morale is low as they invest significant effort but yield low production, leading to an exodus of young people seeking opportunities abroad. While Nepal is often depicted as an agricultural country in literature, the reality falls short. Improving productivity is crucial, and this can be achieved by enhancing labor efficiency and increasing arable land fertility. To address these challenges, the concept of smart agriculture has emerged, and implementing an IoT-based agricultural system could help manage the workforce and retain skilled youth in their homeland. The main objectives of the study were to develop a monitoring system for arable land using IoT and to predict and recommend suitable crops using machine learning. Due to constraints in time and resources, the study focused on Vyas Municipality Ward no-13 in the Tanahun district. Sensor devices were deployed in the selected ward, and data was collected four times a day at half-hour intervals, monitoring key parameters like Humidity, Temperature, Rainfall, and Soil moisture. In this research, Orange, Ginger, Onion, and Spinach are the main crops predicted and recommended suitable times. In conclusion, the implementation of IoT-based agricultural systems and Machine Learning algorithms can offer valuable insights to farmers, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding crop selection and cultivation timing. This could potentially revitalize Nepal’s agricultural sector and reduce the trend of young people leaving the country in search of better opportunities.</p

    Introduction: The deleterious effects of immobility in the ICU can be minimized by having early mobilization within their strategies, which consists of an interprofessional plan that proposes the improvement of inactivity and which aims to reduce the problems caused by hospitalization with appropriate exercises for high-age individuals. Risk and its bed.&nbsp;Objective: To identify the effects of this physical therapy technique on patients hospitalized in this hospital sector.&nbsp;Methodology: This is an integrative review, with a survey in March 2020, in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), PubMed and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases, with the inclusion criteria: experimental articles and clinical cases with purposes included in the study strategy, written in Portuguese and English, published between 2015 and 2020, available in full in the online collection and exclusion: articles referring to another area of ​​health, incomplete and integrative, systematic reviews, bibliographic or meta-analysis, using the descriptors: “Efficacy”, “Early Mobilization” and “UCI”.&nbsp;Results: The findings from this research made it possible to identify that physiotherapy is effective in carrying out early mobilization protocols, providing important results, such as: length of stay, important gains in functionality, pain reduction, improvement in respiratory muscles and time reduction of mechanical ventilation.&nbsp;Conclusion: Physiotherapy is important in the process of hospitalization of ICU patients, especially in the use of early mobilization protocols, and these were effective in the studies selected for this research.</p

    Oceans’ surface pH-value as an example of a reversible natural response to an anthropogenic perturbation

    The anthropogenic emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) has influenced the pH values of the oceans’ surface. Observations show that for several decades, the surface pH value is declining with a simultaneously rising CO2 concentration. It is an important question to understand to what extent this process is reversible. Hence, in this study, the atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) partial pressure from 1850 to 2020 is derived from the chemical composition of the seawater, the mass action law, Henry’s law, and published literature data on the relevant equilibrium constants. A single exponential relaxation or equilibration time τ = 52 ± 10 years (or half-time of 36 ± 7 years) accounts for the anthropogenic perturbation due to emissions. The model is based on reversible mechanisms and simultaneously represents the atmospheric CO2 volume fraction with a standard deviation of 7 ppm and the oceans’ surface pH values. Projections until 2100 for various emissions include the possibility of recovery within decades.&nbsp;</p

    Two new perylene derivatives 1,7-di(3,5-diamino-pyrimidoxyl) perylene-3,4,9,10- tetracarboxylic acid bisanhydride (4) and 1,7-di(2-[3-[(4-amino-2-methylpyrimidin-5-yl)methyl]-4-methyl-1,3-thiazol-3-ium-5-yl]) ethoxyperylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic bisanhydride (6) have been synthesized. We aimed to study their interactions with G-quadruplex (G4) structures as potent G4 ligands and telomerase inhibitors. We used a PCR-amplified guanine-rich region from the human beta-globin gene, oligonucleotide from human telomeres (a-coreTT), an oncogene (c-kit), and SK-HEP-1 adenocarcinoma cells to characterize those compounds’ binding and stabilizing abilities to G4 structures and anti-cancer potential. All results obtained through UV-visible and fluorescence spectroscopies, agarose gel electrophoresis, and MTT assay on SK-HEP-1 adenocarcinoma cells were in good agreement. Compounds 4 and 6 are promising DNA-binding and cytotoxic compounds with a relatively antiproliferative effect on the selected tumour. In all studies, the formal positive charge carrier, compound 6, showed higher activity in terms of anti-cancer effects. These results may help elucidate the feasibility of the perylene derivatives as future chemo-therapeutic agents.</p

    Effect of a hospital-based maternal counseling guide on exclusive breastfeeding practices in Anambra State, Nigeria: A protocol for a cluster-randomized controlled trial (HOME Trial)

    Background: Optimal breastfeeding is so critical that it could save the lives of over 820,000 children under the age of five years each year. For optimal growth, development, and health, the WHO recommends Exclusive Breastfeeding (EBF) in the first six months. To ensure nursing mothers breastfeed their children exclusively, they should also have access to skilled practical help to build mothers’ confidence and prevent or resolve breastfeeding problems. Interventions promoting optimal Infant and Young Child Feeding practices could prevent 19% of under-five deaths, and such intervention could improve nursing mothers’ understanding and practice of EBF.&nbsp;Objective: This trial is designed to formulate a hospital-based counseling guide on EBF, implement it, and determine its effect on improving EBF practice in Anambra State, Nigeria.&nbsp;</p

    Multiple Myeloma (MM) and Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) are two hematological malignancies with different clinico-biological features to their specific pathogenesis and evolution. The simultaneous occurrence of these two blood diseases within the bone marrow, unrelated to prior chemotherapy, is a rare event: we report subsequently the case of a concomitant presentation of MM and MDS. This case will eventually raise several questions on the pathophysiological, and therapeutic level and on their course, in particular infections, thrombosis, extramedullary localizations, and circulating plasma cells.</p

    Comparing maize storage technologies for managing post-harvest loss in Bako, Ethiopia

    Ethiopian stored maize is expected to lose between 20 and 30% of its stock due to insect damage. To reduce these losses, Ethiopian farmers use chemically treated traditional storage structures and chemical-free Hermetic Storage Technologies (HSTs). We evaluated the storage techniques used in the area in this study. SPSS software was used to analyse the collected data, and mean differences were compared. The findings showed that after nine months of storage, maize stored in plastic containers, Purdue Improved Crop Storage (PICS) bags, chemically treated polypropylene bags, and chemically treated Goteras had grain damage of 4.83%, 5.65%, 56.83%, and 71.06%, respectively; the weight loss was 2.00%, 2.95%, 37.44%, and 56.87%. The percentage germination of maize grains stored in treated polypropylene bags and Goteras decreased from 55.33% to 48.48%, whereas maize contained in plastic containers and PICS bags dropped only slightly and was 98.83% and 95.80%, respectively. Insect development, maize grain damage, and weight loss were significantly reduced (p &lt; 0.05) for plastic containers, PICS bags, chemically treated polypropylene bags, and treated Goteras. As a result, secure maize storage technology, such as hermetic storage technology, may alleviate poverty by increasing household income.</p

    Review on phenotypic characterization and breeding objective traits of indigenous chicken in Ethiopia

    For local chicken ecotypes, knowledge of the distribution of genetic diversity will be useful for optimizing conservation and utilization strategies. In Ethiopia, rural chickens are found in huge numbers distributed across different agroecological zones under a traditional family-based scavenging management system. However, due to the prevalence of diseases and predators, low genetic potentials, feed shortage, and limited feed resources, constraints related to the institutional, infrastructural, socio-economic, and economic contribution of local chickens are not proportional to their huge number. Therefore, the aim of this review was to describe the production system, phenotypic characterization, and breeding objective traits of local chicken ecotypes. Overall desired traits by farmers are body weight, comb type, breeding ability, plumage color, body conformation, egg number, and size, adaptive trait, and mothering ability. Generally, these traits are considered important for selecting chicken in a market for meat and egg consumption and for breeding purposes in Ethiopia. Therefore, these preference traits and breeding objectives of farmers are important to improve the genetic part of chickens in Ethiopia.</p
