    Customer satisfaction as a critical success factor for ERP design

    A Thesis Submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Applied Science in Software Systems Engineering, University of Regina. xii, 94 p.Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) has been an important tool over the last number of years in managing business processes for large corporations. An ERP is a software system that links various departments and allows them to work together through a centralized software system. An example would be a hotel management ERP where multiple departments such as accounting, front desk, housekeeping and human resources share vital business information. However, more research needs to be done on ERP initiatives for small to midsized enterprises (SME) to also help them reach their productivity goals effectively. This is, in part, the motivation behind this thesis. This thesis first looks at various methodologies and metrics that can help inform the design and implementation of an ERP. This thesis also incorporates customer satisfaction as a Critical Success Factor (CSF) and metric for analyzing an SME’s ERP design and implementation. Prior to the design and implementation phase, gathered quantitative customer experience data is used as a guide to inform the design criteria with respect to the implementation of an ERP for an SME. This thesis demonstrates that ERP design and implementation concepts can utilize the sentiment of an SME’s customer base to subsequently help key issues get resolved in the ERP design process which may also lead to a successful ERP implementation for an SME. In this thesis, an ERP is designed and developed that is informed through customer satisfaction as a CSF in addition to other techniques such as the As-Is, To-Be and Balanced Scorecard methodologies [1]. The annual series will celebrate university sports in Saskatchewan with the goal of generating greater spirit and support for varsity sport and student-athletes. Launching in Saskatoon on September 2 with women's soccer, the official celebration and kickoff event will be held on September 17 at Mosaic Stadium in Regina as the U of S Huskies and U of R Rams go head-to-head on Football Weekend in Saskatchewan.Staffn

    Graphite Doped PAN Nanofiber Mats Infused Polymer Composite Pipeliners: Experimental Diffusion Characterization

    A Thesis Submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Applied Science in Industrial Systems Engineering, University of Regina. xvii, 136 p.The internal corrosion in the pipelines is the most critical factor of any type of pipeline failure. The growing trend to mitigate the internal corrosion in the pipelines using Nanofiber Polymer Composite Liners (NPCL) was investigated in this study. Polyacrylonitrile Nanofiber Polymer Composite Liners (PAN NPCL) and Graphite doped PAN Nanofiber Polymer Composite Liners (Graphite doped PAN NPCL) were fabricated and their absorption characteristics were investigated. PAN Nanofiber and Graphite doped PAN Nanofiber mats were used as an additional reinforcement layer in the Polymer Composite Liners. Three different volume fractions of PAN solution (0.1%, 0.25%, and 0.5%) were used to produce the PAN Nanofiber mats. Similarly, three different volume fractions of Graphite (0.05%, 0.1%, and 0.2%) were doped into the PAN solution volume fraction (0.1%, 0.25%, and 0.5%) which was used to produce the Graphite doped PAN Nanofiber mats. The electrospinning technique was used to produce the PAN Nanofiber and Graphite doped PAN Nanofiber mats. The polymer Composite Liners were produced by layering the electrospun PAN Nanofiber and Graphite doped PAN Nanofiber mats in Bisphenol A epoxy polymer matrix. The volume fractions of PAN NPCL (P0.1% and P0.5%) and Graphite doped PAN NPCL (G0.05%P0.1% and G0.2%P0.5%) were selected to test the absorption characteristics. For the absorption analysis test, three different mediums (Water at 23 °C, Water at 50 °C, and Heavy Oil) were used as per the ASTM D5229 standard to test the Polymer Composite Liners. The PAN NPCL and Graphite doped PAN NPCL specimens were tested in the three mediums for absorption analysis. The specimens were kept in the solution until they reached the saturation point in terms of weight. In total, 336 hours were in on average used for all the specimens, as per ASTM D5229 standard, and the absorption characteristics were reported. Results showed that the highest volume fraction of PAN and Graphite doped PAN NPCL specimens had a minimum absorption percentage when compared with the lowest volume fraction of PAN and Graphite doped PAN NPCL specimens. The obtained results were compared and validated with the morphological characteristics and ATR-FTIR spectroscopy analysis.Studentye

    The relationship between executive function and arithmetic strategy in grades 4 to 6

    A Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology, University of Regina. v, 60 p.Current literature suggests that variance in conceptually-based strategy use on multi-term arithmetic problems is due to individual differences. The present study examined whether individual differences in conceptually-based strategy use was related to individual differences in executive function (EF). Through an additive and multiplicative problem-solving task, three arithmetic concepts were examined in 112 Grade 4-6 students: inversion (e.g., 2 + 5 – 5, or 7 x 4 ÷ 4), associativity (e.g., 2 + 29 – 27 or 7 x 9 ÷ 3), and equivalence (e.g., 4 + 2 + 7 = 4 + __ or 5 x 2 x 3 = 5 x __). An EF battery task was used to assess working memory, updating, inhibition, and switching components. Our primary hypothesis was that individual differences in arithmetic strategy use would be related to individual differences in EF. We also hypothesized that (1) participants would perform best and use inversion the most, followed by associativity, then equivalence, (2) there would be no grade differences (3) participants will perform better on additive than multiplicative problems. Correlational results indicated apparent links between EF capacities and arithmetic strategy use, with inversion correlating with inhibition, all three conceptual strategies correlating with updating, and equivalence correlating with all four EF components. ANOVA results indicated that participants perform best on inversion problems, but use equivalence strategies the most, individual rather than grade differences accounted for variance, and participants do better on additive problems. However, operation and concept ANOVA interactions suggest arithmetic strategy use may depend on operational and conceptual problem format.Studentn

    Debunking TikTok misinformation

    A Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology, University of Regina. vii, 29 p.Although TikTok, one of today’s fastest-growing social media platforms, provides its audience with short, entertaining videos, the platform has witnessed an alarming spread and production of misinformation. Previous research suggests that various social media platforms contribute to the spread and belief in misinformation (Pennycook & Rand, 2021). However, there is no empirical research on misinformation videos from TikTok’s effect on false belief. Likewise, though research supports the effectiveness of debunking misinformation on various social media platforms, it is unknown if these findings apply to TikTok misinformation debunking videos. In the present study (n = 1,245), we investigated whether TikTok misinformation videos increase false belief and if this can be remediated by TikTok debunking videos. To do so, we had participants either watch and rate the credibility of a single misinformation video, a single debunking video, or a misinformation video followed by a debunking video. Afterwards, all participants watched and rated both a factual and false information video (with the order counterbalanced). Our findings indicate that watching a video that debunks the misinformation viewed in a prior video decreases false belief relative to when they watch a misinformation video without a debunking video.Studentn

    After a two year pause due to COVID-19, the Faculty of Social Work is once again offering Prairie Beginnings: Newcomer Settlement Program for Children and Families. The summer program for children, aged six to 12, of recently arrived refugee families to Regina, runs each Saturday until August 27, 2022. The program provides a safe, welcoming place for the children and includes a variety of fun activities and planned outings to introduce them to their new lives in Regina and Saskatchewan.Staffn

    Potential Impacts of Zebra Mussel Invasion on Gamefish Health and Prey Availability in Prairie Lakes

    A Thesis Submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Science in Biology, University of Regina. 15, 150 p.Invasive species are a threat to global aquatic ecosystems. Nonetheless, their impacts can be heterogeneous across systems. Recent reports suggest Saskatchewan (SK) prairie lakes are highly prone to zebra and quagga mussels (ZQM) given their proximity to invasive corridors of Manitoba and three US states (Montana, North Dakota, and Minnesota) where they have been reported. As the effect of ZQM on native species is variable and context-dependent across locations and time, an understanding of prevailing biological, physical and chemical conditions supporting various cohorts of fish communities is necessary for prioritizing mitigation efforts to address the potential effects of these dreissenids in uninvaded systems. To gain these important insights, I investigated diet composition and body conditions of three ecologically and recreationally important gamefishes; walleye (Sander vitreus), northern pike (Esox lucius), and yellow perch (Perca flavescens) sampled from 18 SK prairie lakes. In addition, I assessed the impact of fish size and environmental variables on gamefish body conditions. Twenty-three prey taxa were found in the diets of these fishes. While both invertebrates (amphipods) and fish formed significant constituents of walleye diets, pike concentrated more on fish prey, whereas perch relied more on invertebrates (chironomids and amphipods). Zooplankton was only a minor contributor to the diets of all three gamefish species. Body conditions of walleye and pike decreased with size, but yellow perch populations were in consistently good condition across all size groups. These results suggest preferred fish prey of larger piscivores (i.e., pike and walleye) may be present in insufficient quantity. Lake productivity and alkalinity influenced body conditions of large-sized walleye and yellow perch. The scarcity of pelagic zooplankton prey in the diets of small-sized gamefishes implies these populations may be less threatened by future ZQM invasion than previously assumed. Next, I contrasted stomach content data and Carbon (C), Nitrogen (N), with Sulfur (S) stable isotope analyses to better quantify the relative importance of various foraging habitats to the three gamefish species. Bayesian Mixing models predicted that in about 70% of our study lakes > 55% of gamefish diets were sourced from the littoral region, whereas in ~30% of surveyed lakes, > 55% of gamefishes diets was sourced from the pelagic habitat. General evidence of similar reliance on sediment S sources in lakes where two species co-occurred (walleye and pike or walleye and perch) was observed. Overall, the three predominant gamefishes exhibited comparable dependence on the three feeding habitats (littoral, pelagic, sediment) across SK prairie lakes. Findings of stomach content analysis (SCA) and stable isotope analysis (SIA) were assessed to determine how the two techniques corroborate, contradict or complement each other. Results indicated a lack of correspondence between the two methods utilized in examining walleye diets, suggesting the need to use both techniques as complements for more robust results. Finally, because future invasion by ZQM is expected to significantly impact energy sources of gamefishes, I examined the current environmental controls of reliance on pelagic, littoral, and sediment-based diets. Walleye reliance on pelagic energy sources increased with the maximum depth of lakes and decreased with total dissolved solids (TDS) concentrations, implying the contribution of pelagic diets increase for fish populations in deeper and less saline lakes. However, sediment-based diets were not influenced by any of the selected environmental parameters. Integrating SCA and SIA overall helped to advance our understanding of feeding habits of gamefish populations in SK prairie lakes and demonstrates the value of combining these analyses for a comprehensive understanding of feeding interactions within aquatic ecosystems.Studentye
