    First Determination of the Spin-Parity of (Formula presented) Baryons

    The (Formula presented) decay chains are observed, and the spin-parity of (Formula presented) baryons is determined for the first time. The measurement is performed using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of (Formula presented), corresponding to an integrated luminosity of (Formula presented), recorded by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018. The spin-parity of the (Formula presented) baryons is determined to be (Formula presented) with a significance of more than (Formula presented) ((Formula presented)) compared to all other tested hypotheses. The up-down asymmetries of the (Formula presented) transitions are measured to be (Formula presented) ((Formula presented)), consistent with maximal parity violation, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. These results support the hypothesis that the (Formula presented) baryons correspond to the first (Formula presented)-wave (Formula presented)-mode excitation of the (Formula presented) flavor triplet

    Does biodiversity matter for firm value?

    This paper investigates the relationship between firms’ impact on biodiversity and its firm value and the economic and financial mechanisms underlying this link, filling a gap concerning the financial materiality of biodiversity loss. By analysing a global panel of 1,848 publicly listed companies across 49 countries from 2018 to 2022, this study highlights how the Corporate Biodiversity Footprint (CBF) influences not only firms’ market valuations (Tobin’s Q, Market-to-Book) but also their operating profitability as measured by Return on Assets (ROA). At the same time, the CBF affects firms’ cash generation capacity both decreasing the level and increasing the volatility of operating cash flows. Further heterogeneity analyses reveal that the effect of CBF on firm value is particularly strong for large firms, firms producing tangible goods, firms headquartered in megadiverse countries, and countries with a high level of biodiversity conservation. The erosion of ROA is especially evident in countries already severely affected by biodiversity loss. The results have important implications for investors, banks, corporate managers, and policymakers to improve risk pricing, forward-looking corporate governance, and realign corporate strategies and capital allocation with global biodiversity targets

    Background: Haemodialysis (HD) has a significant environmental footprint due to its high resource consumption and waste generation. A key component is dialysate production, which typically involves mixing water, bicarbonate, and a single-use acid concentrate bag for each session. An alternative method is the central delivery of acid concentrate, prepared on-site using dry powder formulations. This study compares the environmental impact of these two delivery systems, focusing on waste reduction, elimination of single-use plastic, and decreased transport-related emissions. Methods: A detailed life cycle assessment (LCA) was carried out using OpenLCA and the Ecoinvent v3.1 database to compare the traditional acid concentrate bag system with the central delivery system (Granumix, Fresenius, Germany). Data on material inputs, energy use, waste generation, and transportation were collected. Flow diagrams captured the full life cycle of each method, and various environmental indicators were analysed, including climate change, acidification, and ecotoxicity. Results: The Granumix system demonstrated considerably lower environmental impact than traditional bag use. It reduced climate change potential by 30% (CO2-equivalent) and freshwater ecotoxicity by 15%. Additional benefits were observed in acidification, resource use, and overall emissions, indicating the system’s broader environmental advantages. Conclusions: The central delivery of acid concentrate using the Granumix system is a more sustainable option for HD, significantly reducing environmental burdens across several categories. These findings underscore the value of adopting innovative delivery models to make essential healthcare treatments more environmentally sustainable

    Medicinal Plants for Child Mental Health: Clinical Insights, Active Compounds, and Perspectives for Rational Use

    Background/Objectives: Anxiety, agitation, and mood disturbances are increasingly common among children and adolescents. Given the limitations of conventional pharmacological treatments in the pediatric population, particularly for subthreshold or mild conditions, interest in complementary approaches such as phytotherapy is growing. This review aims to critically evaluate the clinical evidence supporting the use of herbal medicines and botanical food supplements for mental health symptoms in youths and to explore the pharmacological basis of their activity. Methods: A systematic search was conducted across main databases for clinical trials involving herbal products for psychologically related symptoms in children and adolescents. Eligible studies included those using registered herbal medicines, as well as authorized food supplements, that evaluated behavioral or cognitive outcomes. In addition, bioinformatic analyses were performed on selected phytocompounds to predict their molecular targets. Results: Twenty-nine clinical trials were identified, including eighteen targeting pathological conditions (notably attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, and depression) and eleven addressing borderline symptoms such as nervous agitation, restlessness, or sleep disturbances. Herbal products showing clinical promise include Bacopa monnieri (L.) Wettst., Crocus sativus L., Ginkgo biloba L., Hypericum perforatum L., Lavandula angustifolia Mill., Melissa officinalis L., Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer, Passiflora incarnata L., Pinus pinaster Aiton, Valeriana officinalis L., and Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal. Bioinformatic predictions revealed polypharmacological activity profiles involving neuroinflammatory, neuroprotective, and neurotransmitter-related pathways. Conclusions: This review highlights both the potential and the current limitations of herbal products in pediatric mental health care. Evidence supports their use for selected indications, provided that standardized preparations and clinical oversight are ensured. Further research is essential, particularly to inform dosing, safety, and integrative care strategies

    Empowering Local Energy Communities with Blockchain-Based Federated Forecasting and Zero-Knowledge Proof Verification

    Local Energy Communities (LECs) are gaining prominence as key actors in the transition toward sustainable and decentralized energy systems. A critical challenge for these communities lies in achieving energy self-sufficiency through effective forecasting of energy production and consumption. Accurate forecasting models are essential to support optimization and planning strategies. However, privacy concerns and regulatory constraints often limit the feasibility of centralized data-driven approaches, as users are understandably reluctant to share their consumption data. To address this issue, we propose a privacy-preserving forecasting framework based on Federated Learning (FL) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, which enables collaborative model training without disclosing raw user data. Building upon this core architecture, we further enhance transparency and user engagement by introducing Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs) for secure inference verification, and a novel incentive layer based on dynamic Non-Fungible Tokens (dNFTs) and fungibile tokens. Our approach ensures model integrity, protects user data, and fosters sustainable behavior through verifiable, trustless reward mechanisms. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and potential of this architecture in supporting privacy-aware, decentralized energy forecasting within LECs
