An Antinomy of Liberalism: Equality of Opportunity and Inherited Wealth in Maffeo Pantaleoni
No full textWithin the liberal tradition, the principle of equality of opportunity stands among the most deeply rooted. Emerging in the wake of the French Revolution, it marked the shift from the ascriptive logic that dominated ancient régime societies to the acquisitive logic of the market based on merit and individual abilities. As an egalitarian model, it confines its application exclusively to the realm of ex-ante conditions, thereby accepting inequality in ex-post outcomes and endorsing the market as a mechanism of social regulation. However, the universality of this principle is merely apparent. It represents one of the most contentious antinomies within liberal thought. The case discussed here is undoubtedly among the most significant. In numerous writings, particularly his 1901 essay, Maffeo Pantaleoni explicitly addressed the interplay between “equality of opportunity,” “initial conditions,” and the inherited wealth of economic agents, engaging in a discourse that intertwines ethical, political, and theoretical dimensions. European cultural heritage, often perceived as neutral and conservative, becomes a space of conflict and contestation, intertwining
dynamics of preservation and renegotiation of territorial power. Through the analysis of patrimonialisation,
heritage dissonance, and heritogenesis, this study reveals how heritage is used both to legitimise dominant narratives and
to promote alternative visions. The research focuses on the role of European Capitals of Culture and the impact of digital
technologies (GIS, AI) in reinterpreting and rethinking heritage management. It demonstrates that cultural heritage, far
from being static, is a tool to renegotiate territorial identities and address contemporary challenges related to sustainability
and inclusivity

Get PDFThis paper examines the comparative relationship between contemporary restorative justice and traditional conflict resolution practices, specifically the sulha in Israeli-Palestinian communities and the Kanun-based dispute resolution system in Northern Albania. While these models share fundamental principles such as reintegration and restitution, significant differences emerge in their mediation structures, reconciliation objectives, and the role of ritual. The study highlights how restorative justice emphasizes voluntary participation and individual agency, whereas traditional models prioritize collective harmony and social cohesion. By analysing these differences, the paper underscores the importance of contextualized approaches when applying restorative justice principles across diverse cultural settings

No full textLe livre que Jérôme de Gramont a consacré à Stanislas Breton est plus qu’un portrait théologico-philosophique, ainsi que l’indique le titre du livre que l'un à consacré ò l'autre. En effet, d’une part, on pourrait le lire comme une continuation (si ce n’est une extension) du livre de Breton "De Rome à Paris. Itinéraire philosophique", de l’autre, on pourrait y deviner l’autoportrait de de Gramont lui-même. Car tantôt ce livre prolonge la biographie de Breton en l’enrichissant de la germination imprévue que l’oeuvre du philosophe ne cesse de connaître, tantôt il s’agit d’un portrait qui dit beaucoup au sujet du peintre et de sa manière de peindre le visage « de l’autre ». Un visage que de Gramont peint en respectant les traits principaux de la physionomie théologico-philosophique de Breton, tout en étant également marqué par ce qu’il est en train d’esquisser. Par conséquent, tandis qu’un portrait est dessiné, un autre dessin s’ébauche aussi : celui qui représente le peintre lui-même
AI-Powered Care Robots for Compassionate Care: A Value-Sensitive Approach to Humanizing Healthcare
No full textCompassionate care is increasingly recognized as a cornerstone of high-quality healthcare, essential for optimal outcomes for patients and families. However, stress, exhaustion, and emotional depletion often undermine the
ability of caregivers to provide patient-centered attention. This paper aims to (i) propose that integrating care robots equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems into healthcare environments has the potential to reduce caregivers’ workloads and emotional strain, thereby revitalizing the human-centered dimension of care. Achieving this, however, requires designing care robots that adopt a ValueSensitive Design (VSD) approach. Accordingly, the second aim of this work is to (ii) demonstrate how a VSD in line with the above-mentioned aim can guide the development of care robots that are responsive to the real needs of healthcare professionals. This can be achieved through careful examination of their preferences,
specific requirements, and the contexts in which they operate. A specific VSD aims at promoting a model of technological development that enhances professional expertise, ensuring that robotic entities function as supportive tools, while preserving the meaningful dimension of care work
Human and Artificial Agent Interaction to Provide Generative Feedback at University
No full textRecent scholarly investigations have highlighted the critical impor-
tance of feedback in enhancing students’ educational outcomes, autonomy and
motivation. Nevertheless, despite its acknowledged importance, the practical
implementation of feedback processes in everyday teaching is often hampered by
large class sizes and time constraints. Recent technological advancements have led

to the development of diverse computer tutoring systems designed to support the
feedback process across various educational domains and tasks. Notably, plenty
of tools investigate multiple-choice questions and relatively few on open-ended
questions. In order to meet these challenges, we initiated an investigation explor-
ing the use of Artificial agents in the evaluation of open texts. The research design
investigates three key phases of the assessment process: test preparation and exe-
cution, test evaluation and analysis, and recursive feedback delivery. Specifically,
this paper explores how the interaction between Artificial Agent and Human can
be organized in order to assess open-ended tasks in large classes, defining a recur-
sive pathway. The research is carried out under the PRIN AI&F project and the
overall goal is to build a system that can support effective and sustainable learn-
ing, favoring a formative assessment using generative feedback. First results from
the analysis of two tasks completed by 263 university students in the academic
year 2023/24 seem to indicate that the Artificial Agent can support the feedback
process by suggesting a useful classification of the students’ answers
