Harmonious Living: Sustainability, Ecology, and Eco-Islam in Wales
This thesis is an in-depth examination of Eco-Islam in Wales. Eco-Islam refers to the conceptual intersection of Islamic principles with environmental and ecological concerns. It is not necessarily a formalised movement with a centralised structure but rather a broader concept that explores the compatibility between Islamic teachings and environmental stewardship. It emphasises the idea that Islamic values and ethics can be applied to address contemporary environmental challenges. This dissertation addresses the question of the normative influence of Islamic environmental principles and their implementation within Welsh Muslim communities and Welsh society. More generally, this thesis is embedded in the academic discourse on the normative role and agency of religions in motivating their members to engage in proenvironmental behaviour. Given the urgency of the environmental crisis facing humanity, which requires a concerted effort from all sectors of society, the research question of this thesis is particularly relevant.
Furthermore, despite the growing body of literature on ecology and Islam, there has been little research on the practical implementation of Islamic teachings on nature. Therefore, whilst giving a comprehensive overview of Islamic environmental ethics based on a literature review, the thesis also provides research data on the Eco-Islam movement based on fieldwork conducted in Wales. Particular attention is paid to the social and power structures that contribute to or hinder the development of a Muslim environmental movement.
The study provides practical recommendations for better cooperation between faith communities and the (still) predominantly secular environmental movement, with particular attention to the challenges faced by minority communities such as the Muslim communities in Wales
Social Media Uncertainties: Preservice Teachers’ Use of Facebook in the Digital Era
Learning with technology should accommodate the changing needs of preservice teachers (PSTs)
including a variety of learning styles and choices. Although the use of social media for educational purposes has
been extensively explored, a comprehensive understanding of PSTs’ perceptions of Facebook as their preferred
platform to support their learning is required. This case study explored how 110 PSTs at a large university in
New Zealand were being prepared to teach in their future classrooms. Drawing on focus group discussions with
PSTs, this brief paper highlights PSTs’ perspectives about choosing to use Facebook as a preferable platform
rather than Moodle to support their learning. Generated themes from thematic analysis revealed that Facebook
was used for collaborative learning and creating a safe and supportive learning environment. PSTs
acknowledged that using Facebook enhanced their learning. Based on the findings of this study,
recommendations are offered for teacher preparation and further research.

Earthy Matters: Exploring Human Interactions with Earth, Soil and Clay
the reader to the notion that matter is a creative agent, and that it plays a key role in the formation of our material and social worlds. The focus of the book is sediments, soils, clay and earth ‒ materials that surround us and have shaped people’s interactions with the environment since even before the first farmers settled in the Near East tilling the earth, building houses from mud and plaster, and making vessels and figurines from clay. This collection questions orthodox understandings that these substances are inert and an infinite resource for humanity, rather to foreground earthy substances in their relationships with humans, and to show how these materials have co-created our social and material worlds. It is a novel and timely reminder for the reader that our lives have always been embedded within the matter of the E(e)arth
The significance and challenges of turnover and retention of millennial professionals
Purpose – This paper aims to provide readers with a comprehensive overview of the current state of the millennial literature, highlighting the significance and challenges of millennial professionals, their reported high turnover and the various recommendations designed to engage and retain them. Design/methodology/approach – An integrated review approach was applied to synthesise contemporary peer-reviewed articles, supplemented by legacy and grey literature and relevant book chapters, to comprehensively explore and construct a cohesive overview of the current research on the millennial workforce.
Findings – Within the wealth of available information, examining the various studies on millennial turnover reveals diverse theories, evidence and opportunities for advancement, underscoring the necessity for more robust empirical studies. The investigation identified three overarching retention strategy themes: (1) intergenerational conflict management, (2) workplace adaptations and (3) solutions rooted in a protean career orientation. In alignment with protean career concepts, coaching shows promise as an underexplored option. Practical implications – This article holds practical significance by offering researchers a comprehensive and cohesive overview of the millennial literature. Additionally, it gives organisations a novel perspective on the crucial role coaching can play in engaging and retaining millennial employees.
Originality/value – The increased focus on retaining millennial workers in recent decades has spurred a proliferation of articles and books on this subject. However, this body of research remains fragmented, lacking an overview that provides a clear picture of its current state. This review aims to bridge this gap.

Australian non-perennial rivers: Global lessons and research opportunities
Non-perennial rivers are valuable water resources that support millions of humans globally, as well as unique
riparian ecosystems. In Australia, the Earth’s driest inhabited continent, over 70% of rivers are non-perennial due to a combination of ancient landscape, dry climates, highly variable rainfall regimes, and human interventions
that have altered riverine environments. Here, we review Australian non-perennial river research incorporating
geomorphology, hydrology, biogeochemistry, ecology, and Indigenous knowledges. The dominant research
themes in Australia were drought, floods, salinity, dryland ecology, and water management. Future research will
likely follow these themes but must address emerging threats to river systems due to climate change and other
anthropogenic impacts. Four high level opportunities for future research are identified, namely: (1) integrating
Indigenous and western scientific knowledge; (2) quantifying climate change impacts on hydrological and biological function; (3) clarifying the meaning and measurement of “restoration” of non-perennial systems; and (4)
understanding the role of groundwater. These challenges will require inter- and multi-disciplinary efforts supported by technological advances. The evolving body of knowledge about Australian rivers provides a foundation
for comparison with other dryland areas globally where recognition of the importance of non-perennial rivers is
expanding

Analysing Innovative Idea of 'Make In India': India's Journey from 10th Largest to 5th Largest Economy
Every country has an urge to become a strong economy in the world. Industrialisation, infrastructure development, attracting foreign investments are some of the key areas which a lot of developing countries are focusing on. It is evident historically that Manufacturing is imperative for rapid development of a nation and its economy. India is one of the fastest growing economy in the world, which has been mainly an agriculture based economy until 1980s. Late 1990s, the IT Services sector accelerated and became dominant. Manufacturing of goods and services was slow paced during this period. The IT Services sector flourished year on year since then and India was called back office for the world in services like IT, Business Processes Outsourcing, Call Centres etc. In 2014, India’s honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, realized the necessity of manufacturing sector and initiated a campaign, “Make in India” with an aim to become a manufacturing hub and investment destination. Like any other developed nation, India started focusing on huge capital investment, building strategic partnerships, enhanced infrastructure, extensive government incentives for Foreign Direct investments and start-ups, industry collaborations, etc. Its journey, mainly from agriculture based economy to a service based and to now, emerging as a manufacturing based, is very fascinating in itself. This dissertation, through literature research, explores the areas in which India has made extensive progress under “Make in India” campaign and compare with other countries that have already implemented such business model. Out of all 25 sectors introduced under MII, Aerospace sector is researched as a case study. A detailed analysis of Make in India will be conducted and a conclusion will be drawn. The dissertation will also complement any previously performed research studies on this topic. The literature review of Make in India is purely for academic purposes and for any future research studies
The Reception of Rebekah Within Genesis
The purpose of this dissertation is to critically assess the relationship between the character of Rebekah and her reception history. This dissertation aims to understand how she has been received by scholars and artists in comparison with how Rebekah is literarily portrayed in the biblical text. This dissertation utilises two key methodologies, reception history and textual analysis, which have been utilized to understand Rebekah’s presentation in Genesis through undertaking an independent reading of the texts to assess how she is portrayed. To investigate Rebekah’s reception, it is important to understand Reception Theory and the emphasis on including all areas of reception as viable. This dissertation contains three main chapters, each dedicated to a prominent passage in Rebekah’s narrative, Genesis 24, Genesis 25: 19-28 and Genesis 27, investigating both her portrayal and their receptions. Throughout this study it is demonstrated that Rebekah’s reception history is complex and diverse, which does not always align with her textual presentation. Throughout the text of Genesis, Rebekah is first introduced as a holy woman. This is built upon through the developing passages, where she receives divine knowledge from God and eventually sees God’s plans reach fruition in Genesis 27. Beginning in Genesis 24, Rebekah is understood as the ideal woman. However, she is edited by scholars, like Josephus, who portray her as the ideal woman but not so important she was chosen for Isaac by God. However, as her narrative develops her reception changes from an ideal woman to a manipulator, with little regard for her motives for tricking Isaac. There is a lack of presentation of her prophetic nature. Instead, her reception history focuses on Genesis 27, where she is portrayed as Lady Macbeth, controlling the men in her life
