Abstract: This article presents an analysis of a file concerning the racial assessment and contestation
of a denaturalisation proceeding held in the Demorazza collection at the Central State Archive in
Rome. The file relates to the naturalisation and subsequent denaturalisation of Giuseppe Blinderman,
a ‘stateless’ individual of Jewish origin (first formerly Russian and then formerly Italian) in Fascist
Italy. Focusing on Blinderman’s actions and skills in shaping his public identity according to the
authorities’ criteria, the article aims to reconstruct Fascist denaturalisation policies and assess the
relationship between the event triggered by the anti-Semitic denaturalisation measure and the
previous naturalisation process. As with most cases of denaturalisation due to anti-Semitic legislation,
the latter also occurred under the Fascist regime, but before the turning point of 1936–38. Adopting
a bottom-up perspective, the article thus raises questions about the continuities and discontinuities
represented by Fascism and, particularly, with regard to Fascist anti-Semitic policies on citizenship,
revealing the interplay between ‘race’ and ‘nativeness’

Lorenzo Martini (1785-1844): A versatile scientific personality and his contribution to the history of hygiene
: Lorenzo Martini (1785-1844) was a physician devoted to promoting hygiene and preventive health. He combined clinical practice with public engagement and relied on both documentary records and debates to shape his practical advice. After a brief biographical profile, we turn to a close reading of the hygiene section of his Manuals of Hygiene and Medical Police (1835) and we examine how that part seeks to disseminate concrete hygienic practices among the population. The study rests on the original 19th-century edition of the Manual as a primary source, with other primary documents in the Historical Archives of the University of Turin and the State Archives of Genoa, and it is supported by secondary sources that help reconstruct Martini's life and situate his ideas within the medical culture of his time. Martini presents prevention as the primary route to protect health, and he argues that the best way to avoid or at least reduce the risk of chronic diseases is to maintain a general state of balance across all aspects of life, including daily habits, environment, diet. Traces of miasmatic and humoral theories of Hippocratic and Galenic origin remain in Martini's thought, showing how emergent preventive ideas coexisted with older medical doctrines
Logic-Based Approaches to Scheduling and Their Enhancement through Controlled Natural Languages
In the healthcare domain, the effective management of healthcare operations, such as patient
scheduling, staff rostering, and resource allocation, remains a persistent challenge due to
complex constraints and dynamic environments. Artificial Intelligence offers promising
methods for optimizing these processes, particularly through Knowledge Representation
and Reasoning (KRR) approaches that ensure explainable and logically grounded solutions.
Among these, Answer Set Programming (ASP), also thanks to the presence of efficient
solvers, has proven to be particularly suitable for modeling complex healthcare scheduling
problems. Thus, in this thesis, we present solutions to two healthcare scheduling problems:
the Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic scheduling problem, which involves assigning patients
to days for examination and surgical preparation, and the scheduling of Periodic Treatments
problem, where patients must follow predetermined treatment plans over a period of several
weeks. The use of formal KRR languages like ASP, however, often requires specialized
expertise, limiting accessibility for domain experts. To bridge this gap, Controlled Natural
Languages (CNLs) have emerged as a means to express formal logic in a more intuitive
and human-readable format. CNLs can enhance readability, reduce development time, and
facilitate communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders. In this thesis, we
propose a set of tools in this regard. First, we introduce CNL2ASP, which is able to convert
sentences written in CNL into an ASP encoding. Then, the second tool is CNL2TEL. It
extends CNL2ASP with temporal operators, and is able to convert CNL specifications into the
TELINGO input language. Similarly, SBVR2ASP is a tool that translates specifications written
in the Semantics of Business Vocabulary and Business Rules (SBVR) into ASP. A recent
survey has highlighted several limitations in current approaches to SBVR conflict detection
and analysis, and in our approach based on ASP, we address most of these limitations. Finally,
the last tool we propose is CNLWizard, a framework that generates grammars for target
representation languages, enabling the translation of problems stated in CNL into formal
representations. This tool offers a flexible, high-level approach to defining desired grammars,
significantly reducing the time and effort needed to create custom grammars

Dispersion properties of guided elastic waves in micropolar plates
The free propagation of harmonic guided waves in homogeneous isotropic micropolar plates is investigated. The physical-mathematical model treats the micropolar plates as finite-thickness layers of linearly elastic Cosserat continuum, bounded by traction-free parallel planes. Initially, the partial differential equations governing free undamped motion are formulated for the unbounded three-dimensional micropolar continuum. Their analytical solutions are obtained by an original spectral decomposition of the acoustic tensor in the frequency domain. The resulting dispersion spectrum is endowed with spectral branches-absent in the classical Cauchy continuum-, which are associated with microrotational waveforms and characterized by distinct cutoff frequencies. A novel energy-based criterion is proposed to classify and quantify the waveform polarization. Subsequently, the partial wave method is employed to enforce boundary conditions and to construct semi-analytical solutions for the elastodynamic problem of harmonic guided waves propagating in infinite plates. This analysis enables a comprehensive characterization of the dispersion properties for both in-plane and out-of-plane uncoupled problems. From a mechanical perspective, the parametric analyses of the in-plane problem solutions reveal significant qualitative and quantitative effects of micropolarity on wave dynamics. In addition to the spectral enrichment due to micropolar branches, several distinctive dynamic phenomena are identified and parametrically described. These include frequency hardening, non-dispersive behavior in the limits of long/short wavelengths, asymptotic coalescence of phase/group speeds, proliferation of internal resonances, crossing and veering of spectral branches, hybridization of quasi-resonant translational and microrotational wavemodes. Mathematical conditions for the occurrence of frequency veering and modal hybridization are established

Cd-based pigments were introduced in the 19th century and revolutionized the colour palette of artists. The primary component is the orange CdS, with ternary compounds fabricated later to achieve adjustable hues [1,2]. Adding Zn, the colour tunes to yellow increasing the Zn amount, whereas red pigments can be obtained by substituting sulfur with selenium. Extensive research has demonstrated how Cd-based pigments are characterized by a high level of heterogeneity in terms of colour, presence of impurities, coexisting of different phases, and particle size. This heterogeneity is induced by the variability of the synthetic methods employed by the different companies, with direct influence of the long-term stability of these materials. Indeed, the lack of precise information of the composition of the pigments obtained following the historical syntheses limits the prediction of the possible deterioration in real paintings [3].
In this study, we synthesized a series of CdxZn1-xS and CdS1-xSex pigments following established historical formulations. The synthesized pigments exhibit similar hues but vary in crystalline structure, particle morphology, and size. Additionally, different secondary phases are identified. The materials underwent artificial aging under simulated solar illumination to assess potential degradation. Subsequently, photocatalytic tests were conducted to correlate the observed alterations with their intrinsic semiconductor properties.
The results revealed important information about the deterioration behavior of historical pigments, identifying key indicators of pigment reactivity in real artworks and demonstrating the inherent instability of historically synthesized pigments based on fabrication methods.
