    Robotic Datasets for Process Mining

    As robotic systems become increasingly integrated into real-world applications, the need to better understand their operations continues to grow. Bridging the gap between process mining and robotics can enhance the transparency, accountability, and efficiency of these systems. However, applying process mining in this context is challenging due to the nature of robotic event data, which is mainly fine-grained and composed of multi-sensor readings rather than high-level activity events. In this exploratory paper, we present a collection of publicly available robotic datasets, providing a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners aiming to apply process mining to robotic systems. We identify 118 datasets and classify them based on application domain, type of robot involved, onboard sensors, collaborative behaviors, and their readiness for processing with process mining techniques

    ITV-net: leveraging intraspecific trait variability to bridge vegetation science and trait-based research in Italy

    Vegetation science is a branch of community ecology that relies on species identities and abundance to classify vegetation in coherent units and to explore species coexistence and turnover dynamics. The advent of trait-based ecology has expanded vegetation science, providing a framework that allows for a better understanding of plant strategies and the functional structure of communities. These complementary disciplines have remained largely independent among Italian plant ecologists. Therefore, in 2021, we launched the ITV-net initiative, a national collaborative effort for bringing together vegetation plots and field-measured plant trait data to develop a national platform that can serve both vegetation and trait-based ecologists. In the first data call, we were able to gather trait data on two key leaf traits (i.e., Leaf Area and Specific Leaf Area) for >700 species across 1,043 georeferenced vegetation plots, complemented with species relative abundances, across eight different EUNIS habitat types. Despite this remarkable first milestone, we aim to enlarge the scope of this initiative to include more vegetation plots and functional traits across more habitat types in Italy. Here, we provide an overview of the ITV-net initiative and its underlying methodological details as a ‘manifesto’ to spread the data call to other potential contributors in the Italian community of plant ecologists. Our ultimate objective is to bridge the vegetation science and trait-based ecological research in Italy towards developing a national database of vegetation plots and plant functional traits.     Trends in cancer incidence and mortality in Italy, 2013–2017

    Cancer incidence and mortality trends represent epidemiological indicators of fundamental importance for public health systems. The study's aim is to present recent (2013–2017) short-term cancer incidence and mortality trends in Italy, including 80 % of the Italian population, for different cancer sites by sex, age group, and areas. Joinpoint Regression models were employed. A significantly decreasing trend in the incidence of all cancers was observed for men in Italy (-1.9 % per year), particularly for cancers of the lung (-2.5 %), liver (-3.9 %), stomach (-2.8 %), colorectal (-2.2 %), prostate (-3.4 %), and leukaemias (-3.2 %). The only significant increase was seen for skin melanoma (+5.2 % per year). Among women, overall cancer incidence remained stable, with a decrease in the North (-0.6 %) and an increase in the South and Islands (+0.9 %). Decreasing trends were observed for colorectal (-1.9 %), stomach (-3.5 %), liver (-4.0 %%), and leukaemias (-2.0 %) cancers, while incidence increased for skin melanoma (+6.0 % per year), and lung cancer (2.3 %). Cancer mortality declined consistently in both sexes (-1.8 % per year in men and −0.6 % in women), across different areas, and age groups. The observed trends in men and women partly reflect the impact of risk factors affecting both sexes at different times, mainly in the case of tobacco and lung cancer. Also, some trends may be linked to organized screening initiatives (e.g. colorectal) or the decrease in opportunistic screening (e.g. prostate). The snapshot of cancer trends in Italy may highlight new opportunities for strengthening prevention activities and advancing research on early detection and target treatments

    Gli ambienti definiti dall’architettura non sono fatti per essere semplicemente visti, ma per essere in qualche modo abitati, attraverso un insieme di esperienze (simboliche, rituali, identitarie, relazionali, affettive) che interagiscono con la percezione sensoriale e possono addirittura condizionarla. Del resto il carattere più elementare di un edificio è il suo scopo: “a che serve”, “come si usa”, “cosa rappresenta”, sono state le domande di grado-zero di qualsiasi architetto e precedono addirittura le non meno cruciali “quanto costa” e “come regge”. Michelangelo architetto non eccepisce. Tutto il contrario: seguendo la propria attitudine concettuale, antitetica all’impulsività creativa, il maestro raggiunge i più originali risultati in architettura non nello stilismo lessicale o nel plasticismo delle masse, ma nel congegno d’organismi tipologici, e dunque funzionali, eversivi d’ogni consuetudine. Si può anzi affermare, con retorica licenza, che Michelangelo architetto sia un creatore di funzioni prima ancora che di forme, come lo saranno i maestri del barocco o quelli delle avanguardie novecentesche. E la sua architettura può definirsi autenticamente “organica” (la più organica, forse, del Rinascimento) proprio in ragione della stretta connessione tra forma e funzioni che il Buonarroti vi ha sempre ricercato: funzioni che sono in primo luogo simboliche, naturalmente.The environments defined by architecture are not meant to be simply viewed, but to be inhabited in some way, through a set of experiences (symbolic, ritualistic, identity-related, relational, emotional) that interact with sensory perception and can even condition it. After all, the most basic characteristic of a building is its purpose: “what is it for”, “how is it used”, “what does it represent” are the fundamental questions asked by any architect, even before the equally crucial “how much does it cost” and “how sturdy is it”. Michelangelo the architect does not disagree. Quite the contrary: following his own conceptual attitude, antithetical to creative impulsiveness, the master achieves the most original results in architecture not in lexical stylism or the plasticity of masses, but in the device of typological, and therefore functional, organisms that subvert all convention. It can even be said, with rhetorical licence, that Michelangelo the architect was a creator of functions rather than forms, as were the masters of the Baroque and the avant-garde of the 20th century. And his architecture can be defined as authentically “organic” (perhaps the most organic of the Renaissance) precisely because of the close connection between form and function that Buonarroti always sought: functions that are primarily symbolic, of course

    Lethal and Sublethal Effects of Carlina Oxide and Acmella oleracea Extract Enriched in N-Alkylamides on Aculops lycopersici (Acari: Eriophyidae) and Its Predator Typhlodromus exhilaratus (Acari: Phytoseiidae) in Laboratory Tests

    The tomato russet mite, Aculops lycopersici, is considered one of the most important crop pests globally. The main control strategy is based on synthetic acaricides; however, they create resistant strains and ecological risks. In this context, biopesticides could be a viable and sustainable alternative for eriophyid control. In the present study, the toxic effects of a N-alkylamides-enriched extract obtained from Acmella oleracea and of carlina oxide, the main bioactive component of Carlina acaulis, on A. lycopersici were evaluated, as well as their side effects on the phytoseiid Typhlodromus exhilaratus Ragusa under laboratory conditions. Six concentrations were tested for each product against A. lycopersici adults (0, 320, 640, 1280, 2500, and 5000 μL L−1), and the median concentration (1280 μL L−1) was evaluated against eggs and females of the phytoseiid T. exhilaratus. Both the N-alkylamides-enriched extract and carlina oxide showed total lethal effects (100% of mortality) towards A. lycopersici at the two highest concentrations. Moderate-to-high mortality was also recorded with the lower concentrations: from 42.22 to 97.78%. Probit analysis identified LC50 values of 205.32 μL L−1 for carlina oxide and 253.79 μL L−1 for the N-alkylamides-enriched extract, respectively. Carlina oxide showed a moderate ovicidal effect on T. exhilaratus eggs (50.00% hatching rate) on T. exhilaratus, and caused 39.13% mortality on females, whereas the N-alkylamides-enriched extract was less toxic, with a hatching rate of 88.00% and a mortality rate of 18.75% on females. In conclusion, carlina oxide and the N-alkylamides-enriched extract showed high toxicity on A. lycopersici, with a reduced effect on phytoseiid. These results highlight the potential of these products as sustainable means for the management of tomato russet mite

    Thermally assisted photocatalysis: Highly selective conversion of CO2 to CO in flue gas using NH2-MXene/TiO2/ZnTCPP

    Converting CO2 from flue gas into valuable chemicals has always been an important research field. This study developed a thermally assisted photocatalytic reduction of flue gas CO2 system at the gas–solid interface, utilizing an NH2-MXene/TiO2/ZnTCPP (Zn-NMT) composite. Zn-NMT exhibited a CO generation rate of 236.17 μmol⋅g− 1⋅h− 1 at 80 ◦C with thermal assistance, achieving 100 % CO selectivity. Notably, it showed superior cyclic stability at 88 %, significantly surpassing the NMT (39 %). The findings indicated that the introduction of photosensitizer ZnTCPP expands the light absorption spectrum, thereby enhancing photonic utilization efficiency. Moreover, ZnTCPP and TiO2 can form an S-scheme heterojunction, and the use of MXene as a charge transport bridge effectively suppresses the recombination of electron-hole pairs generated by photoexcitation, which in turn notably extends the catalyst’s longevity. Zn-NMT catalyst shows great potential in reducing CO2 emissions from flue gas and promoting the utilization of CO2 resources, offering new insights and methods for related fields
