Biosensing, Enhanced Senses and Experience Design for Augmented Humans
The field of augmented humans is rapidly evolving, driven by advances in biosensing technologies, enhanced sensory capabilities, and innovative approaches to experience design. Real-time physiological feedback, adaptive environments, and augmented modalities—such as vision, hearing, and touch—are expanding human perception and interaction beyond natural limits. This workshop explores the intersection of biosensing, sensory augmentation, and human-centered design, with a focus on prototyping and evaluating experiences for augmented human interaction. We invite researchers and practitioners to share case studies, design approaches, applications, and methodological insights that contribute to this emerging area
Augmenting Office Workers with Robot Avatars:An Exploratory Study
This paper explores personalization of telepresence robots as anexploratory step towards physical representations of augmentedhumans in remote collaboration. We investigate how individualsdesign and use robot avatars that express identity and presencethrough clothes and accessories. Our participatory design studyinvolved eight participants from the same work community whoeach used a personalized humanoid robot avatar in an office settingfor one day. The findings reveal that video-based face visibilityenhanced recognizability, while personalized clothing made therobot seem more human and approachable. Kirjallisen menettelyn ja poissaolokäsittelyn soveltamisalojen laajentaminen rikosprosessissa
Oikeusministeriön tilaamassa selvityksessä tarkastellaan mahdollisuuksia laajentaa kirjallisen menettelyn ja poissaolokäsittelyn soveltamisaloja rikosprosessissa. Selvitys perustuu Petteri Orpon hallituksen ohjelman kirjauksiin rikosprosessin sujuvoittamisesta, jonka keinoina ovat muun muassa kirjallisten menettelyjen lisääminen ja läsnäolovaatimuksen keventäminen, sekä rikosprosessin sujuvoittamista tarkastelleen työryhmän muistiossa (Oikeusministeriön julkaisuja, Mietintöjä ja lausuntoja 2023:16) tehtyihin ehdotuksiin.Selvityksessä korostetaan, että oikeus henkilökohtaiseen läsnäoloon rikosasiaa käsiteltäessä ei vaarannu, mikäli menettelyt perustuvat edelleenkin vastaajan suostumukseen, joka voidaan antaa myös hiljaisesti. Kirjalliseen menettelyyn soveltuvien asioiden enimmäisrangaistusta voitaisiin selvityksen mukaan nostaa nykyisestä kahdesta vuodesta neljään vuoteen ja menettelyssä tuomittavaa rangaistusta nykyisestä yhdeksästä kuukaudesta vuoteen vankeutta. Poissaolokäsittelyyn soveltuvien asioiden osalta selvityksessä ehdotetaan vastaajan nimenomaisella suostumuksella toimitettavasta poissaolokäsittelystä luopumista. Menettelyssä voitaisiin tuomita enintään yhden vuoden vankeusrangaistus. Poissaolokäsittelyssä voitaisiin ottaa vastaan myös henkilötodistelua

Persistent Organic Pollutants' Threats and Impacts on Food Safety in the Polar Regions:A Concise Review
The threats posed by Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) impact food safety and, by implication, food security in the polar regions. POPs tend to persist in the environment and the fatty tissues of animals, thereby constituting long-term contamination. Due to the cold climate and geography of these polar regions, they create a sink for these pollutants which travel from their source of production and accumulate in food chains, resulting in health risks to the ecosystem, animals, and humans of the Arctic and Antarctica. In this paper, we draw attention to the threats posed by POPs, how they can lead to food insecurity, affecting health negatively due to unsafe traditional foods. A narrative synthesis methodology was employed, systematically analyzing historical data, activities and research trends on POPs contamination in polar ecosystems. We also highlight resilience promoted by Arctic governance, with a focus on how the issues of POPs became an international matter from the 1970s, with three United Nations (UN) conventions: the UN-Environment Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, the UN Minamata Convention on mercury, and the UN-ECE Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution. These conventions led to the start of several monitoring activities in the polar regions, transforming the POPs into a global topic. We also consider the intertwined effect of climate change on POPs. Additionally, the human rights paradigm in relation to food security and sovereignty for polar communities was explored. Strengthening the resilience of communities in the polar regions needs to recognize these nutritious traditional foods as an aspect of cultural identity that must be safe and easily accessible. We focus on developments, improvements, the role of international cooperation, and frameworks to assist in research and regulations. Furthermore, establishing systems that engage local communities to consistently monitor POPs regularly will lead to a better understanding of these threats. Ultimately, this narrative provides a look into the past and current research of POPs and their monitoring in the polar regions
Promoting learning in the rescue department:A community of practice perspective
The modern digitalised workplace requires continuous learning to maintain the skills and knowledge required for civil protection work. The purpose of this study is to identify the primary factors that enable learning in the rescue department. Data was collected in semi-structured interviews with firefighters and fire officers from a Finnish rescue department. The results of the study show that peer support and learning preference are valued across organisational ranks. Technology has a crucial role as it disrupts workflows and necessitates new work requirements, while serving as a tool in social interactions, learning and knowledge management. The findings contribute to research on workplace learning through the development of communities of practice for civil protection workers, emphasising the need for collaboration and adaptive strategies for learning in the workplace
The emerging information systems of SDGs and their effects on business:a case study from Finland
Gradually, sustainability reporting has become a relevant part of annual reporting for companies. The role of the United Nations (UN) is important in this development; the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN, coupled with the enlarging discussions of grand challenges, are important drivers of this development. The UN has constructed a large information system with hundreds of SDG indicators to launch sustainable actions among member countries and their companies. The sustainable development of countries and companies is measured using several indicators. Finland has been successful in these evaluations. It is interesting to study the company-level role of SDGs in Finnish companies. What kinds of information systems do they have in their annual reporting of sustainability, and how do they use SDGs in this reporting? Outcomes show that all the largest Finnish companies use SDGs in their sustainability reporting. Often, this reporting is linked with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI index system), which is the most important element in Finnish company-level sustainability reporting. Their SDG strategy is mostly diversified, meaning they express those SDGs that especially need development work in the future. Only two companies have a centralized strategy in their sustainability reporting of SDGs
