Complex Earth–outer space systems and new spacetime for international law

    No full text
Earth–outer space interactions challenge conventional legal structures through dynamics that transcend jurisdictional boundaries and temporal scales. International law historically operates through specific spatiotemporal assumptions: geometric space, chronometric time, and cartographic politics. These elements structure how legal authority is conceptualised and enacted. This study recognizes the interconnectedness between Earth and outer space, positioning legal thought and practice within planetary and cosmic contexts. This integrative framework moves beyond anthropocentric and state-centric paradigms to address the indeterminate nature of multifaceted systems. The research employs an interdisciplinary methodology that integrates legal theory and doctrine, systems engineering, and systems science to analyse emergent phenomena such as orbital debris dynamics. The study concludes that addressing Earth–outer space interactions effectively requires not merely integrating existing legal regimes but reconceptualizing core legal concepts to align better with complex, multi-scalar and emergent dynamics.</p

Katso videolinkki julkaisusta

Digitizing is not an intrinsic value, but it enables improved and responsible activities and results for everyday life in business, health and administration. This book helps to understand these opportunities and awaken new ideas and pondering about digitizing on the practical and theoretical level

The Role and Use of Technology in Managing Well-being at Work

    No full text
The study examines the digital transformation emerging in the transportfield. Theoretically, the study emphasizes the perspectives of DigitalEmployee Experience (DEX) and Sensemaking (Weick, 1995). The casestudy is based on interviews and a survey of transport employees in Finland. The results of the study present four different views on digital employeeexperience, namely 1) the liberating versus the enslaving views ontechnology, 2) the clarifying versus the confusing views on technology, 3)the dependence and the independence views on technology and 4) theflexible versus the rigid environment views on technology. The views'contents reflect technology's role in shaping the employee experience indifferent ways. The views are considered relevant to studying the conceptof experience and the development of the transport sector. Keywords: sensemaking, technology, DEX, digital experience, transportationThe chapter investigates the relationship between technology, well-being experience, and management by addressing two questions: a) How has technology emerged in managing well-being at work? b) What is the practical role of technology in well-being management? For the first question, the study adapts the perspective of technology philosophy, which enables the visibility of the assumptions of well-being that affect the background of the concepts of technology. For the second question, we consider the practical roles of technology in well-being management on the individual and work-community level with the help of case examples from one branch of expertise. The material (n=62) leans on the feedback discussions, followed by measuring the well-being at work. As a result, the meaning of technology for well-being is constructed in different ways in the employees’ experiential profiles. On the work-community level, the profiles are potentially valuable for creating management practices and support for well-being. The research contribution of the results is associated with the criteria and principles for well-being technology in the work context
