Mapping of current practices of palliative care for patients with heart failure throughout Europe: A scoping review
Tracking leukemic residuals: dissecting the inverse relationship between CD26+ stem cells and extracellular BCR::ABL1 transcript in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML)
: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) persists due to leukemic stem cells, notably the CD26+ subset. We investigated correlations between circulating CD26+ leukemic stem cells (LSCs) and BCR::ABL1 transcripts in an extracellular vesicle-enriched secretome (EVES) from plasma samples of 44 CML patients. EVES were characterized and BCR::ABL1 quantified via digital PCR. We observed an inverse correlation between CD26+LSC counts and EVES BCR::ABL1 levels, especially in deep molecular responders (DMR). CD26+LSCs were elevated in patients in treatment-free remission (TFR), while EVES BCR::ABL1 levels were higher in those receiving therapy. These findings suggest distinct dynamics between LSC populations and vesicle-mediated transcript release, with potential implications for CML monitoring and prognosis
Tuning linear dichroism/birefringence (LDLB) contributions in VCD spectra of tartaric acid-TPPS4 porphyrin films
Vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) is employed to investigate chiral-templation of D and L tartaric acids (TA) which, according to electronic circular dichroism (ECD) studies, drive tetrakis-(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin (TPPS4) to self-assemble into chiral J-aggregates. TPPS4/TA solutions, prepared in both H2O and D2O, are drop cast on CaF2 plates. VCD spectra of corresponding films are not affected by rotating the samples around the incident beam, but undergo dramatic changes, even sign reversal, by flipping the samples from "front" to "rear" position, depending on acid content. The observed IR absorption features are mainly due to vibrational transitions of TA. The dissymmetry ratio g for the observed features is of the order of 10-2, which is quite high for vibrational phenomena: the semi-sum spectra in the front-rear positions can be considered as representative of "intrinsic" VCD phenomena, the semi-difference is associated with linear dichroism-linear birefringence components (LDLB term). In this study, we show that TPPS4 and TA, when mixed appropriately following the specified protocols, yield films in which the VCD and LDLB components can be effectively modulated

NEVIGRAV Study: A Case–Control Analysis on Changes in Melanocytic Nevi During Pregnancy
Pregnancy can influence modifications and appearance of melanocytic nevi, but studies report inconsistent findings, often lacking standardized methods and comparison groups. This study evaluates dermoscopic changes in nevi and the development of new melanocytic lesions in pregnant women using full-body photography and digital dermoscopy. Nevigrav is an observational case–control study conducted at two university dermatology centers, involving 85 participants (45 pregnant women and 40 controls) with 1614 lesions analyzed. Participants were asked about recent sun exposure or tanning habits. Enrollment was predominantly conducted in autumn and winter months to minimize ultraviolet (UV) exposure as a confounding factor. Total body photography revealed no new lesions in pregnant women when compared to controls. Dimensional growth was observed in the abdomen (p = 0.049) and the back (p < 0.001) between the first and second trimesters, with further abdominal growth in the third trimester (p < 0.001). At the third trimester, pigmentation changes were significant, with phototype III maintaining or increasing pigmentation and phototype II showing a reduction of pigmentation (χ2 = 32.33, p < 0.001). Regional pigmentation differences were noted in the mammary (p = 0.02), abdominal (p = 0.004), and thigh (p = 0.007) areas. No changes in symmetry or dermoscopic nevi patterns, including dots or globules, were observed. Pregnancy does not increase nevi count but may cause size and pigmentation changes, particularly in the abdomen, influenced by phototype and body region. No new dermoscopic patterns or symmetry changes were found
