No full textNegli ultimi anni, l'esigenza di proporre percorsi didattici innovativi in ambito scientifico ha condotto a una riflessione profonda sull'integrazione tra contenuti disciplinari e metodi didattici trasversali. In tale direzione si colloca il progetto Liceo Matematico (Capone et al., 2017), che promuove un'educazione matematica fondata sull'interdisciplinarità (Capone & Faggiano, 2024) e sull'utilizzo del laboratorio per favorire un apprendimento significativo. Questo lavoro descrive un'attività centrata sulla logica proposizionale, strutturata attorno alla narrazione delle avventure di Peter Mat sull'isola del FaRo. No full textFirst and foremost, it is a narrative of the first great wave of fear of vampirism, which began in 1732, the so-called “year of the vampires,” and ended in 1755, when Maria Theresa of Habsburg issued the so-called Rescript on Superstition, which appointed Vienna with all jurisdiction over the dead to be dug up (and witches to be burned). At a deeper level, it is a book that – in a kind of “interview with the vampire” – does not limit itself, as has been done by other works, to recounting the fears and perplexities that such rumors spread in Western Europe. The perspective is thus not the usual one of storytellers west of the Danube: a similar viewpoint would lead to a kind of “imperialistic bias,” which has undermined so much research thus far. Instead, an effort has been made to reconstruct, paradoxically, the point of view of the vampires themselves, who were “given a voice” so that they could speak: not so much of the dimension of superstition and misery in which they were imagined, but of the contradictions of Western society, which denied and feared them at the same time. A society that, prideful in its Enlightenment snobbery, felt superior as well as immune to such phenomena (which it, too, experienced in its more peripheral realities). The story of death is used to tell the story of life. And the story of the imaginary vampires of Eastern Europe who is used to recount and interpret the stories of the very material protagonists of Western Europe
A tridimensional framework for governance in the wildland-urban interface using Pyro-Socio-Ecological Zones
No full textZones where urban land covers meet wildland areas have become a critical point of interaction between human settlements and natural ecosystems at risk of wildfire. These zones span diverse socioeconomic, governance, and ecological dimensions that are often not accounted for with frequently used methodologies. We developed and mapped a tri-dimensional Pyro-Socio-Ecological Zone (PSEZ) framework based on a suite of composite indicators that account for disparate Ecological, Socioeconomic, and Governance contexts in southern Italy (IT) and southern California (CA), USA. In CA, PSEZ with high governance consistently present a lower number of wildfires compared to PSEZ with low governance values. In IT, PSEZ with low governance indicate a lower number of wildfires and more burned area while PSEZ with high governance levels had more wildfires and less burned area. Overall, we found that the distribution of PSEZs and wildfire governance implications differed between CA and IT, underscoring greater spatial fragmentation, disparate contexts, and complex socio-ecological interactions in these peri-urban areas. Findings highlight that care is warranted when applying USA derived methods and concepts to fire-prone, landscapes in different geographies and contexts
Substantive action: The Italian corporate ESG response to Climate Policy uncertainty
No full textGrowing global climate pressures have led to stricter policies, but climate policy uncertainty (CPU) constitutes a significant risk to the low-carbon transition. This study examines how Climate Policy Uncertainty (CPU) influences corporate ESG behavior in Italy, which has strong ESG accountability but fragmented climate governance. Using panel data from 255 Italian listed firms from 2010 to 2023, we find that CPU drives significant improvements in ESG performance, with measurable reductions in carbon and pollutant emissions, suggesting substantive rather than symbolic responses. However, Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) exhibit weaker improvements due to resource constraints. Our findings contribute to the debate on corporate strategies under regulatory uncertainty and offer insights for policymakers designing climate governance frameworks and for firms seizing the transition opportunity

No full textThe CoPDA 2025 workshop "Sustainability Perspectives and Frameworks for Making Cultures of Participation Successful" explores the intersection of sustainability and cultures of participation in diverse contexts. As participatory cultures become central to addressing complex global challenges (as defined by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals), they require robust sustainability frameworks to ensure their long-term viability. This workshop examines how environmental, social, economic, technological, and cultural sustainability principles can inform and enhance participatory systems by supporting community-driven design with end-user development. Participants engaged in interactive sessions to identify and discuss strategies for fostering evolution, adaptability, and educational innovation within cultures of participation. The participants were able to ground, present, and highlight practical frameworks and real-world case studies, focusing on how sustainable participation can amplify collective creativity in coping with wicked problems

This paper presents a teleoperated TIAGo robot system controlled via Bluetooth joystick through a modular ROS 2 architecture including five specialized Python nodes to manage robot subsystems. Artificial Intelligence Policies for Higher Education: Manifesto for Critical Considerations and a Roadmap
No full textThis paper investigates the relationship between artificial intelligence (AI)
technology and educational policy in higher education, highlighting key research
and implementation. The paper focuses on critical considerations for AI policy
development with a view to producing a roadmap focused on contextual higher
education AI policies. The rapid development of AI presents both significant
opportunities and challenges for higher education institutions in Europe and
globally. As AI technologies become ubiquitous, integrated into teaching, learning,
and administrative functions, it is essential to identify critical considerations at the
core of the AI integration process, namely: (1) regulatory framework, (2) stakeholder-
specific guidelines, (3) AIED research, and (4) AI literacy. As a starting point, the
paper presents a review of existing AI policy frameworks within higher education,
drawing on recent empirical research, identifying four design and implementation
priorities for higher education stakeholders aiming to create responsible AI
governance frameworks. As a result, we propose a roadmap designed to be used
as strategic planning instrument for higher education stakeholders developing AI
policies and guidance. In proposing a strategic roadmap for AI policy development,
the work offers valuable insight into how higher education can effectively leverage
the potential of AI whilst ensuring ethical considerations, equity, and maintaining
academic integrity. Additionally, the paper contributes to the ongoing discourse
regarding AI’s role in higher education in proposing research pathways that will
benefit all stakeholders involved in the academic ecosyste
Probiotics combined with prickly pear seed flour as a mean to fortify fermented milk-based beverages
No full textThe application of processing waste/by-products along with probiotics could represent a possible strategy to confer functional aspects to food items. This study aimed to evaluate the impact on yogurt of incorporating prickly pear seed (PPS) flour, rich in fiber, minerals and phenolic compounds, together with individual commercial probiotic strains of lactobacilli (Lacticaseibacillus casei BGP93, Lacticaseibacillus casei LC4P1, Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus LRB, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LPAL). Preliminarily, we optimized the production protocol by examining various percentages of PPS flour added either before or after fermentation. The best result was achieved adding 5 % of PPS flour after fermentation, coinciding with the addition of probiotics.
The ability of all probiotic strains to survive in the yogurt matrix and in the presence of the starter cultures was assessed, during 40 days of refrigerated storage. Probiotic lactobacilli and yogurt starters were quantified using both culture-dependent (plate count on MRS and M17 agar) and culture-independent (real-time qPCR) techniques. The inclusion of PPS flour resulted in elevated levels of fiber (more than 3 %) and
minerals, especially for magnesium, potassium and phosphorus. Furthermore, the antioxidant capacity, measured in vitro (via DPPH∙ and FRAP assays) and in cell line studies, showed an increase in the yogurt added with PPS and L. casei BGP93. These findings suggest the suitability of integrating PPS flour and probiotics into yogurt formulations to obtain functional yogurt, leading to a greater availability of phenolic compounds.
