IL mondo c'è ancora: territorio città ambiente

    No full text

DistillRecDial: A Knowledge-Distilled Dataset Capturing User Diversity in Conversational Recommendation

    No full text
Conversational Recommender Systems (CRSs) facilitate item discovery through multi-turn dialogues that elicit user preferences via natural language interaction. This field has gained significant attention following advancements in Natural Language Processing (NLP) enabled by Large Language Models (LLMs). However, current CRS research remains constrained by datasets with fundamental limitations. Human-generated datasets suffer from inconsistent dialogue quality, limited domain expertise, and insufficient scale for real-world application, while synthetic datasets created with proprietary LLMs ignore the diversity of real-world user behavior and present significant barriers to accessibility and reproducibility. The development of effective CRSs depends critically on addressing these deficiencies. To this end, we present DistillRecDial, a novel conversational recommendation dataset generated through a knowledge distillation pipeline that leverages smaller, more accessible open LLMs. Crucially, DistillRecDial simulates a range of user types with varying intentions, preference expression styles, and initiative levels, capturing behavioral diversity that is largely absent from prior work. Human evaluation demonstrates that our dataset significantly outperforms widely adopted CRS datasets in dialogue coherence and domain-specific expertise, indicating its potential to advance the development of more realistic and effective conversational recommender systems

    No full text

Pediatric, adult, and late onset multiple sclerosis: Cognitive phenotypes and gray matter atrophy

    No full text
Objectives: We aim to investigate cognitive phenotype distribution and MRI correlates across pediatric-, elderly-, and adult-onset MS patients as a function of disease duration. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we enrolled 1262 MS patients and 238 healthy controls, with neurological and cognitive assessments. A subset of 222 MS patients and 92 controls underwent 3T-MRI scan for brain atrophy and lesion analysis. Multinomial probabilistic models identified likelihood of belonging to cognitive phenotypes (“preserved-cognition,” “mild verbal memory/semantic fluency,” “mild multi-domain,” “severe attention/executive,” and “severe multi-domain”) and experiencing MRI abnormalities based on disease duration and age at onset. Results: In all groups, the likelihood of “preserved-cognition” phenotype decreased, whereas “mild multi-domain” increased with longer disease duration. In pediatric- and adult-onset patients, the likelihood of “mild verbal memory/semantic fluency” phenotypes decreased with longer disease duration, and that of “severe multi-domain” increased with longer disease duration. Only in adult-onset patients, the likelihood of “severe executive/attention” phenotype increased with longer disease duration. All groups displayed escalating probabilities of cortical, thalamic, hippocampal, and deep gray matter atrophy over disease course. Compared to adult, pediatric-onset patients showed lower probability of experiencing thalamic atrophy with longer disease duration, while elderly-onset showed higher probability of experiencing cortical and hippocampal atrophy. Interpretation: Age at MS onset significantly influences the distribution of cognitive phenotypes and the patterns of regional gray matter atrophy throughout the disease course

STATINS CHANGE miRNA EXPRESSION IN CIRCULATING ENDOTHELIAL PROGENITOR CELLS FROM HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS

    No full text
Introduction: Statins are still one of the most common and effective treatments to prevent atherosclerosis progression. In addition to reducing high plasma concentration of LDL, statins may contribute to counteract vascular inflammation and endothelial disfunction in patients at cardiovascular (CV) risk. Endothelial dysfunction correlates to an impaired availability of circulating endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), physiologically recruited from bone marrow in response to vascular damage. EPCs contribute to re-endothelialization and vascular integrity. Aim: We investigated whether statins might help to ameliorate EPCs number and function, therefore helping to elucidate potential additional mechanisms for statins protective effects on CV disease-prone patients. Methods: Hypertensive patients receiving (STAT, n = 51, 24F, aged 67.7 ± 9.6) or not (NO-STAT, n = 24, 13F, aged 63.1 ± 11.3) statin treatment underwent routine laboratory and instrumental examinations to assess arterial stiffness and organ damage (ABI, PWV). Quantitative and functional analysis was performed on EPCs isolated from patients of both groups. Small RNAseq was carried out to identify potential changes in microRNAs expression related to statin treatment. Statistical difference (p < 0.05) was considered significant. Results: PWV estimated vascular age was significantly higher in STAT (vs NO-STAT) patients. As expected, total cholesterol and LDL levels were lower in STAT (vs NO-STAT) patients. Interestingly, the total number of EPCs (by flow cytometry) and their ability to migrate (by wound healing assay) was significantly improved in STAT (vs NOSTAT) patients. Expression (by microRNAseq analysis) of miR-3960, mir-328-3p, mir-10400-5p, all involved in invasion and inflammation, was found downregulated in STAT (vs NO-STAT) patients. Conclusions: Preliminary findings suggest that the improved EPCs availability may represent an additional mechanism by which statins ameliorate vascular protection, likely dependent, at least in part, by modulation of specific microRNAs expression. Moreover, our findings emphasize the importance of EPCs as a potentia

Measurement of ψ(2S) to J/ψ cross-section ratio as function of multiplicity in pPb collisions at sNN=8.16 TeV

    No full text
The production ratio of ψ(2S) to J/ψ charmonium states is presented as a function of multiplicity in proton-lead collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of sNN=8.16 TeV, for both prompt and nonprompt sources. The total luminosity recorded by the LHCb experiment corresponds to 13.6 nb−1 for pPb collisions and 20.8 nb−1 for Pbp collisions, where the first particle corresponds to the particle traveling towards the detector. Measurements are performed in the dimuon final state at forward (backward) centre-of-mass rapidity, with respect to the proton direction, 1.5 < y*< 4.0 (−5.0 < y*< −2.5) for pPb (Pbp) collisions. A multiplicity dependence of the prompt production ratio is observed in pPb collisions, whereas no dependence is found in nonprompt production, nor in either prompt or nonprompt production in Pbp collisions. These results suggest that in the Pb-going direction additional suppression mechanisms beyond comover effects may be present, possibly related to the formation of quark-gluon plasma. This highlights a transition from small to large collision systems and provides important insight into the suppression of charmonia in proton-nucleus collisions

Social and relationship capital and idiosyncratic volatility: is there a nexus? Evidence from the European financial market

    No full text
This study investigates the impact of social and relationship capital (SRC) on the volatility of stock returns for financial companies in the European Union. While prior research has examined the link between SRC and market returns, this study uniquely explores its influence on both systematic and idiosyncratic components of volatility. Using a sample of 140 EU banking, insurance, and asset management firms from 2002 to 2021, we apply Marshall’s (2015) model to decompose total volatility. The findings reveal that firms with high SRC typically exhibit greater total volatility, largely driven by systematic risk, whereas low-SRC firms are more influenced by idiosyncratic factors. These results are robust across various specifications, including lagged data and sector-specific analyses. This study underscores the importance of SRC for financial intermediaries. Its implications are multifaceted. For investors, high-SRC firms align more closely with market movements, facilitating market-oriented strategies but offering fewer diversification benefits, whereas low-SRC firms expose portfolios to greater firm-specific risks. For regulators, the evidence underscores the role of SRC in shaping risk profiles, informing supervisory practices that increasingly incorporate ESG considerations. Finally, for financial institutions, SRC emerges as a driver of stakeholder trust and reputation and a determinant of exposure to systematic shocks
