    OSTACOLI SOMMERSI: CRITICITÀ E PROSPETTIVE DELLA DISCIPLINA DEI DRAGAGGI PORTUALI IN ITALIA

    Il presente contributo analizza la disciplina italiana dei dragaggi portuali attraverso una prospettiva comparativa con i principali ordinamenti europei e internazionali, evidenziando le criticità strutturali che impediscono l’implementazione dei principi dell’economia circolare nel settore. L’indagine, condotta attraverso l’esame della normativa vigente, della giurisprudenza di legittimità e dei dati empirici relativi alla gestione dei sedimenti nei principali porti nazionali, dimostra come il framework regolatorio italiano risulti inadeguato rispetto agli obiettivi di sostenibilità ambientale e competitività economica fissati dall’Unione Europea. Le proposte di riforma formulate, ispirate al modello francese di “valorisation territoriale”, mirano a superare l’attuale frammentazione normativa attraverso l’adozione di un approccio integrato che valorizzi i sedimenti dragati come risorse nell’ambito di un nuovo paradigma di gestione portuale sostenibile.This essay analyzes the Italian regulatory framework for port dredging through a comparative perspective with major European and international legal systems, highlighting the structural criticalities that hinder the implementation of circular economy principles in the sector. The investigation, conducted through the examination of current legislation, legitimacy jurisprudence, and empirical data on sediment management in major national ports, demonstrates how the Italian regulatory framework is inadequate compared to the environmental sustainability and economic competitiveness objectives set by the European Union. The reform proposals formulated, inspired by the French model of “valorisation territoriale”, aim to overcome the current regulatory fragmentation through the adoption of an integrated approach that valorizes dredged sediments as resources within a new paradigm of sustainable port management

    Manipulation of vulnerable person via transformation of volunteer service to religious proselytism: Case report and methodical approach

    Elderly people can become victims of induced behavior that is prejudicial not only to their psycho-physical health but also to the emotional-affective fragility associated with their social condition due to their age group. In such cases, it is essential to investigate the type of relationship that developed between the victim and the perpetrator. The authors report a case in which two women were volunteer caregivers of an elderly man and they were active members of a religious group too. During their relatively brief period of activity, the caregivers transformed their service firstly into religious proselytism and then into manipulation to acquire the man's economical assets. The technical assessments and judicial aspects of the case are described to define which elements must be evaluated to ascertain whether there have been phenomena of illicit manipulation and circumvention of an incapable person, as provided for by Italian law (penal code article 643)

    Il progetto “La microlingua green: progettazione di un archivio terminologico digitale multilingue per la sostenibilità” si articola in due obiettivi di ricerca principali. Il primo obiettivo riguarda la progettazione e lo sviluppo di una banca dati terminologica digitale multilingue (italiano, inglese e francese), concepita per rispondere alle esigenze di uniformazione terminologica nel settore dell’energia eolica, offrendo uno strumento che consenta la gestione sistematica e aggiornata della terminologia settoriale. Il secondo obiettivo è incentrato su un’analisi critica e approfondita dei fenomeni terminologici emergenti, condotta attraverso lo studio di tre corpora specialistici. Tale analisi mira a esaminare le dinamiche linguistiche sottese, quali la standardizzazione dei termini, le variazioni interlinguistiche, i fenomeni di sinonimia, di prestito e di adattamento lessicale, nonché i processi di terminologizzazione e determinologizzazione identificabili nei testi analizzati. L’approccio metodologico adottato si basa su un’analisi comparativa di tre corpora creati ad hoc, ciascuno corrispondente a una delle lingue di riferimento. I corpora sono stati ulteriormente articolati in quattro sottocorpora distinti, rappresentativi di differenti tipologie di discorso: istituzionale, giornalistico, aziendale e divulgativo. Questa articolazione consente di individuare tendenze terminologiche rilevanti e di analizzare le variazioni che emergono nei diversi contesti comunicativi, contribuendo così a una comprensione più approfondita delle dinamiche linguistiche che caratterizzano il discorso specialistico sull'energia eolica. La crescente digitalizzazione della documentazione e la diffusione su scala globale delle pratiche di sostenibilità rendono imprescindibile l’adozione di risorse terminologiche digitali affidabili e aggiornate. Tali strumenti si rivelano essenziali per i traduttori, per le imprese e per le istituzioni che necessitano di soluzioni efficaci per garantire l'accuratezza e la coerenza del messaggio comunicativo.The project “The green microlanguage: design of a multilingual terminology database for sustainability” is structured around two main research objectives. The first objective concerns the design and development of a multilingual digital terminological database (Italian, English, and French), aimed at meeting the need for terminological standardization in the wind energy sector by providing a tool for the systematic and up-to-date management of sector-specific terminology. The second objective focuses on a critical and in-depth analysis of emerging terminological phenomena, conducted through the study of three specialized corpora. This analysis aims to examine the underlying linguistic dynamics, such as term standardization, interlinguistic variations, phenomena of synonymy, lexical borrowing and adaptation, as well as the processes of terminologization and determinologization observed in the analyzed texts. The adopted methodological approach is based on a comparative analysis of three ad hoc corpora, each corresponding to one of the target languages. These corpora have been further divided into four distinct sub-corpora, representing different discourse typologies: institutional, journalistic, corporate, and popular science. This structure makes it possible to identify significant terminological trends and analyze the variations that emerge in different communicative contexts, thereby contributing to a deeper understanding of the linguistic dynamics that characterize specialized discourse on wind energy. The increasing digitalization of documentation and the global spread of sustainability practices make the adoption of reliable and up-to-date digital terminological resources essential.     Could Mesquite (Prosopis juliflora) Help Control Gastrointestinal Parasites in Horses?

    Exploring new natural-origin antiparasitic alternatives is essential in addressing the resistance issues that have emerged due to the widespread use of chemical or synthetic antiparasitic compounds. This area remains relatively underexplored despite the increasing recognition of plants like Prosopis juliflora (mesquite) for their antiparasitic properties and nutritional value as a high-protein animal feed. This review aims to investigate the antiparasitic potential of P. juliflora against gastrointestinal parasites in horses. The review incorporates sources from 2005 to 2024. It was found that various phytochemical compounds from P. juliflora, particularly alkaloids, have demonstrated significant antiparasitic activity. Alkaloids are the most studied group due to their antibacterial, antiparasitic, and cytotoxic properties. According to the literature, the phytochemicals produced by P. juliflora hold promise as a potential solution for combating gastrointestinal parasites in horses. However, while preliminary findings suggest promising results, in vivo studies are necessary to evaluate the precise antiparasitic efficacy of these compounds and to determine the appropriate IC50 doses of P. juliflora alkaloids in horses, as well as to assess potential toxicity and side effects associated with their use

    Combined immunotherapy with nivolumab and ipilimumab with and without sequential or concomitant stereotactic radiotherapy in patients with melanoma brain metastasis: An international retrospective study

    Background: Ipilimumab plus nivolumab (COMBO) is the standard treatment in patients with asymptomatic melanoma brain metastases (MBM). We report a retrospective study aiming to assess the outcome of patients with MBM treated with COMBO with or without sequential/concomitant stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT). Methods: MBM patients treated with COMBO with or without SRT have been retrieved: demographics, steroid treatment, Central Nervous System [CNS]-related symptoms, BRAF status, radiotherapy (yes/no and timing) or surgery, number of MBM, maximum diameter of metastasis, overall response rate (ORR), progression-free (PFS) and overall survival (OS) have been analyzed. Results: 453 patients were included: 190 received COMBO alone, 107 received COMBO and concomitant SRT, 156 COMBO and sequential SRT, respectively. At multivariable analysis the line of treatment [> 1st vs 1st: HR 2.60 (1.93–3.50)], sequential SRT vs no radiotherapy [HR 0.45 (0.32–0.64)], concomitant SRT vs no radiotherapy [HR 0.48 (0.33–0.69)], steroids [HR 1.56 (1.17–2.08)], age [HR 1.01 (1.00–1.02)] and number of MBM [≥ 3 vs 1 HR 1.55 (1.11–2.17)), 2 vs 1 HR 1.53 (1.02–2.31)] at baseline were associated with OS. There was no significant difference between patients who received concomitant vs sequential SRT. At a median follow-up of 29 months, the median-OS in the overall population was 17.8 months while in those who received SRT was 27.3 (15.3–39.4) for patients receiving sequential radiotherapy and 22.2 (12.7–31.7) for those receiving radiotherapy concomitantly to COMBO. The incidence of radionecrosis was 10.3 %. Toxicities were consistent with previous studies. Conclusions: Our results suggest a better OS in patients who receive SRT plus COMBO, regardless of timing of SRT. Prospective studies are needed to validate our findings

    Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide and zinc salts in cellulose-based colloidal systems enhance fruit shelf life

    This study explores the development of cellulose-based active colloidal systems to enhance the antimicrobial properties of absorbent food pads and prolong the shelf life of cherry tomatoes. Food pads impregnated with colloidal systems made of microcrystalline cellulose dissolved in tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAH) with zinc salts (ZnCl2 and ZnSO4) were tested for their antifungal efficacy. In vitro results revealed complete fungal suppression by TBAH alone and in combination with ZnCl2. The interaction between TBAH and ZnSO4 exhibited synergistic antifungal activity, while an additive effect was observed with ZnCl2. In vivo tests showed a significant reduction in fruit rot, with ZnCl2-treated pads reducing rot by 91 % after 14 days. TBAH was partially bound to cellulose chains, minimizing the risk of fruit contamination, as confirmed by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance

    Un'applicazione pratica per l’edizione digitale di testi agiografici e calendariali

    Testi d’uso come martirologi e calendari pongono problemi peculiari alla critica testuale e all’edizione. La loro funzione pratica, legata a esigenze liturgiche e comunitarie, e la connotazione locale li ha esposti a modifiche, interpolazioni e trasformazioni che ne hanno frammentato e ampiamente contaminato la tradizione manoscritta. Questi aspetti rendono complessa la ricostruzione di un archetipo, ponendo la necessità di una ridefinizione di un metodo filologico adeguato. Il Martyrologium Hieronymianum (MH) è un caso particolare di tali difficoltà. Strutturato secondo il calendario solare, non segue i criteri formali di un’opera letteraria. Interpolazioni, compendi e contaminazioni rendono incerti i rapporti genealogici tra i testimoni. Le sole edizioni di questo testo, quella diplomatica di De Rossi e Duchesne del 1894 e quella critica di Quentin e Delehaye del 1931, irte di contrasti e traversie, hanno evidenziato i limiti delle tecniche di edizione tradizionali. Questo studio propone un’edizione digitale basata su EVT3, affrontando aspetti fondamentali, quali la gestione delle varianti, la rappresentazione delle contaminazioni e la conservazione delle peculiarità dei testimoni. L’obiettivo è sperimentare delle soluzioni, utilizzando anche l’IA, che possano offrire un modello applicabile ad altri testi simili, caratterizzati da una continua rielaborazione e stratificazione testuale.A practical application for the digital edition of hagiographic and calendrical texts. Texts intended for Practical texts such as martyrologies and calendars pose unique challenges to textual criticism and editing. Their practical function, tied to liturgical and communal needs, along with their local character, has subjected them to modifications, interpolations, and transformations that have fragmented and extensively contaminated the manuscript tradition. These factors make the reconstruction of an archetype particularly challenging, necessitating the redefinition of an appropriate philological method. The Martyrologium Hieronymianum (MH) exemplifies these difficulties. Structured according to the solar calendar, it does not adhere to the formal criteria of a literary work. Interpolations, abbreviations, and contaminations create uncertainty in establishing genealogical relationships between the witnesses. The only editions of this text—the diplomatic edition by De Rossi and Duchesne (1894) and the critical edition by Quentin and Delehaye (1931)—marked by controversies and difficulties, have highlighted the limitations of traditional editorial techniques. This study proposes a digital edition based on EVT3, addressing fundamental issues such as the management of textual variants, the representation of contaminations, and the preservation of the witnesses’ unique features. The goal is to experiment with solutions, including the use of AI, that could provide a model applicable to other similar texts characterized by ongoing reworking and textual stratification

    Valorizzazione delle biomasse e dei rifiuti per la sintesi di "top value chemicals" e materiali sostenibili

    L'esaurimento delle risorse della Terra, tra cui sostanze chimiche, minerali e combustibili fossili, unito alle crescenti preoccupazioni ambientali, ha determinato l'urgente necessità di una transizione verso modelli economici e industriali più sostenibili. Questa trasformazione è guidata dai principi dell'economia circolare, che cerca di minimizzare i rifiuti e ridurre l'inquinamento promuovendo la riprogettazione dei prodotti, l'efficienza delle risorse e il riutilizzo dei materiali. Il fulcro di questo approccio è la progettazione ecologica di prodotti, servizi e sistemi di nuova generazione, in cui i materiali vengono reintegrati nel ciclo tecnico-industriale (attraverso il riutilizzo e il riciclaggio, o nel ciclo biologico, attraverso il compostaggio e la biodegradazione). Un esempio significativo è il framework Cradle to Cradle, che sostiene il riutilizzo continuo dei prodotti mantenendo l'integrità delle materie prime in più cicli di vita, in contrasto con i processi di riciclaggio tradizionali che spesso portano alla degradazione dei materiali. Questo concetto enfatizza anche l'uso di sostanze chimiche non tossiche e sicure per l'ambiente. La biomassa è diventata una risorsa cruciale nel quadro dell'economia circolare, con applicazioni che includono la produzione di biocarburanti, prodotti chimici a base biologica e polimeri. Esempi di fonti di biomassa sono il legno e le colture energetiche, come la soia. Il rapido aumento della produzione di combustibili e materiali derivati interamente dalla biomassa ne evidenzia l'importanza, ma questo spostamento ha sollevato preoccupazioni riguardo all'eccessivo sfruttamento del suolo per applicazioni non alimentari, all'aumento dei costi delle materie prime (soprattutto nei Paesi in via di sviluppo), alla perdita di biodiversità, all'erosione del suolo e all'aumento della suscettibilità a parassiti e malattie. La biomassa di scarto rappresenta una valida soluzione a queste sfide. Derivata da fonti quali residui forestali, rifiuti agricoli e scarti alimentari urbani, la biomassa di scarto offre una fonte abbondante e a basso costo di carboidrati, lipidi e proteine. A livello globale, si stima che ogni anno vengano prodotte centinaia di megatonnellate (Mt) di biomassa di scarto, con un potenziale significativo per la lavorazione in loco, che la rende una promettente alternativa alle colture di biomassa dedicate. L'obiettivo principale della mia ricerca di dottorato è allineato con questi principi di economia circolare, incentrato sulla valorizzazione dei materiali di scarto (in particolare biomassa e rifiuti plastici) in prodotti chimici di alto valore, materiali polimerici sostenibili e prodotti a zero rifiutiThe depletion of Earth's finite resources, including chemicals, minerals, and fossil fuels, coupled with escalating environmental concerns, has driven the urgent need for a transition towards more sustainable economic and industrial models. This transformation is guided by the principles of the circular economy, which seeks to minimize waste and reduce pollution by promoting product redesign, resource efficiency, and material reuse. At the core of this approach is the eco-design of next-generation products, services, and systems, where materials are reintegrated into either the technical industrial cycle (through reuse and recycling, or the biological cycle, through composting and biodegradation). A notable example is the Cradle to Cradle framework, which advocates for the continual reuse of products while maintaining raw material integrity over multiple life cycles, contrasting with traditional recycling processes that often result in material degradation. This concept also emphasizes the use of non-toxic, environmentally safe chemicals. Biomass has become a critical resource within the circular economy framework, with applications including the production of biofuels, bio-based chemicals, and polymers. Examples of biomass sources include wood and energy crops, such as soy. The rapid increase in the production of fuels and materials derived entirely from biomass highlights its importance, yet this shift has raised concerns regarding soil overexploitation for non-food applications, rising raw material costs (especially in developing nations), loss of biodiversity, soil erosion, and increased susceptibility to pests and diseases. Waste biomass provides a viable solution to these challenges. Derived from sources such as forest residues, agricultural waste, and municipal food scraps, waste biomass offers a low-cost, abundant source of carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins. Globally, it is estimated that hundreds of megatonnes (Mt) of waste biomass are produced annually, with significant potential for on-site processing, making it a promising alternative to dedicated biomass crops. The primary focus of my Ph.D. research is aligned with these circular economy principles, centered on the valorization of waste materials (specifically biomass and plastic waste) into high-value chemicals, sustainable polymeric materials, and zero-waste products. Waste biomass, in particular, holds considerable potential for emerging economies, offering dual benefits in energy production and raw material sourcing without exacerbating land-use conflicts, as it capitalizes on byproducts rather than dedicated agricultural land. In my research, we developed novel protocols for converting biomass waste into valuable chemicals while achieving a zero-waste process. Additionally, we synthesized carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and polyol-polyesters from industrial byproducts using sustainable methods and catalysts, including a scandium-silica-based catalyst for polyol-polyester production. Furthermore, significant efforts were devoted to the development of a rapid, reliable, and environmentally sustainable method for the characterization of simple sugars using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). This method enhances the future identification of monosaccharides present in biomass, a key raw material for the production of chemicals and innovative materials. In parallel, we explored the valorization of plastic waste through the development of a recyclable core-shell silica-based catalyst with ionic liquid and zinc oxide confined in the core, which effectively depolymerizes plastic waste into simple monomers suitable for reuse in new material synthesis or industrial chemical production. Overall, my research contributes to the transition towards a circular economy, demonstrating how waste materials (whether from biomass or plastics) can be transformed into valuable resources, thereby fostering a more sustainable and resource-efficient industrial system

    New Horizons of Administrative Law and Participation through Co-Creation: A Focus on Blue Governance

    The chapter examines the transformative role of co-creation in marine governance, underpinned by the principles of Agenda 2030. It is structured into five sections, each analyzing different aspects of co-creation within the framework of the United Nations Ocean Decade and the broader Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on SDG 14 – Life Below Water. The discourse begins by defining co-creation as a collaborative process involving multiple stakeholders to ensure effective governance, tracing its evolution and alignment with the goals of Agenda 2030. This sets the stage for a comprehensive discussion on how co-creation addresses contemporary sustainability challenges, positioning it as a catalyst for effective participation in marine governance. The chapter progresses by highlighting the central role of participation and co-creation in achieving the goals of Agenda 2030, examining collaborative efforts and partnerships, and discussing the importance of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). It explores educational paradigms that promote co-creation across society, analyzing its integration into formal and informal education to foster collaborative learning environments and community outreach. Finally, the chapter connects co-creation to effective marine governance, discussing its role in influencing policy-making, ensuring equitable access to marine resources, and supporting international frameworks for ocean conservation. It concludes by advocating for a revised approach to administrative law that embraces participatory governance through co-creation, aligning with the principles of blue governance and presenting a forward-looking perspective on integrating educational and governance strategies for resilient and sustainable marine environments. This comprehensive analysis underscores co-creation’s role in not only addressing pressing environmental issues but also in shaping the future of global marine governance

    New oxaliplatin-zoledronate derivatives with potential antitumor activity towards bone tumors and metastases

    Bone cancer can originate from any cellular element of the bone and may occur sporadically or as a result of degeneration from a precursor lesion. Bone metastases, often stemming from primary cancers such as breast and prostate cancer, are extremely painful and challenging to treat. The treatment of primary bone malignancies typically involves surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and analgesics. Platinum (Pt)-based drugs are effective against bone cancers and metastases but are often limited by severe side effects due to poor specificity. To improve drug targeting and reduce systemic toxicity, bisphosphonate (BP) ligands, which selectively accumulate in bone tissue, have been combined with Pt-based drugs. The combination of Pt drugs with bisphosphonates like zoledronic acid (ZL) could lead to enhanced therapeutic outcomes due to its intrinsic pharmacological activity. In this study, we report the synthesis and full characterization of two new dinuclear Pt(II) complexes that combine ZL with clinically approved oxaliplatin and the drug-candidate kiteplatin, respectively. These complexes were tested for their stability under physiological and acidic conditions, reactivity with 5’-GMP interaction with B- and G-quadruplex DNA models and cytotoxicity against a panel of human tumor cell lines
