The correlation between selfie-sharing frequency and narcissism, contingent self-worth and guilt and shame proneness

    No full text
The aim of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between selfie-sharing frequency and the Narcissism Personal Inventory scale, Contingent Self-Worth scale and Proneness to Guilt and Shame scale through the lens of age and gender. An online quantitative, correlational coefficient survey was implemented to gather the necessary data. A convenience sample of 106 Irish adult participants completed the survey which consisted of the Narcissism Personal Inventory 16 scale, Contingent Self-Worth scale, Proneness to Guilt and Shame scale, demographic and frequency of selfie-sharing questions. Analysis found that men had higher levels of narcissism and lower levels of proneness to guilt and shame. However, levels of selfie-sharing had no correlations with narcissism, contingent self-worth or proneness to guilt and shame for this sample. Future research should include examining correlations between narcissism levels and contingent self-worth sub-scales for samples of high selfie-sharing frequency

The study aimed to understand user perception towards website cookie banners, which are mandatory under GDPR and the factors which are likely to influence their consent for accepting all cookies, to develop recommendations to improve consent mechanisms. Using a quantitative approach, the primary data was collected from 132 internet users residing in the EU region through an online survey questionnaire shared in social media networks. The results showed that the majority of respondents had more than moderate level of awareness about cookies and are more likely to accept cookies for quick access or task completion. Acceptance of cookies was varied across different categories of online activity and given a choice they are more likely to opt-out of 3rd party cookies which is widely used for targeted advertising. This study proposes a framework for Consent for Advertising Directive (CAD) to go beyond the existing Cookie Law which will improve user data protection, and help brands to improve transparency and avoid GDPR violations

Forecasting the electricity demand using machine learning algorithms

    No full text
Forecasting the electricity demand has been the key task to reach the long-term goals of European Union. Inadequacy of accurate measurement of electricity demand which further causes the under generation or over generation of electricity and may also results in huge investments on energy resources. Predictive analysis and time series forecasting methods are used to overcome these difficulties. The aim of this paper is to short-term forecast the electricity demand using the seasonal auto-regressive Integrated moving average (SARIMA) and compare the results with the Multi-layer perceptron (MLP) model. The half-hourly dataset of London city is used for analyzing the electricity demand which is collected from UK power networks along with weather and holidays in the same city from November 2011 to February 2014. The forecasting plots has made based on the maximum, minimum and average consumption and then compare the mean absolute error (MAE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), mean square error (MSE) and root mean square error (RMSE) of SARIMA with the MLP model. During the evaluation MLP outperformed the SARIMA model and the prediction graphs are displayed using User Interface

    Best plan advisor

The continuing growth of online retail shopping, the high number of mobile operators in Ireland and the complexity of mobile products means a consumer may not know where to look when searching for the best suited mobile plan to their needs. The range of products is vast, and the differences in terms of value may not be very apparent to a consumer that would usually be more comfortable discussing options with a sales agent. This project attempts to bridge the gap, allowing a consumer look across the entire market place on a single page web application. This application will perform some of the duties completed by an agent, and is also easy to use and understand, so it can be used by almost everyone. What I have developed is a single page application, using .NET core with a Blazor server framework, to deliver an interactive UI, supported by code written in C# and html which renders data to the UI. The data which relates to mobile plans is easy to add, change or update and will use rendering logic as defined in the Blazor components or razor pages. The future development is dependent on the data, which is stored in text format in a json file. Additional products may be incorporated into the data, allowing a further analysis to take place into bundled products and additional services, with associated discounts. The application could be integrated with a CRM platform, or simply used by an agent to assist with a sale. Web forms could also be developed to allow product owners maintain their own products in the data store

Consumer behaviour towards online food delivery services in Ireland- a segmental analysis

    No full text
In recent years, online food delivery services in Ireland have experienced growth and popularity and are expected to continue to expand. This part of the consumer food service industry is the only area which experienced growth in 2019 despite a decline in performance across the industry. By using a quantitative approach, this study aims at exploring Irish consumer behaviour towards online food delivery services, analysing the demographics of its consumers and also analysing their post-purchase behaviours, all with a view to gaining insight into the reasons behind its market growth- from the perspective of consumers. 114 questionnaire responses were evaluated and analysed for this study. Results indicate three demographic variables- age, marital status, and employment status, is associated with the usage of online food delivery services. The research also reveals different perceptions of respondents with respect to online food delivery services, useful for marketing purposes in the foodservice industry

“At least you have a healthy baby” An overview of perinatal trauma and postpartum posttraumatic stress

    No full text
Childbirth is a complex, multidimensional, and subjective experience that effects the individual, their family unit and society. This study explores the nature of birth trauma and postnatal posttraumatic stress symptoms and analyses evidence for preventative and treatment interventions. It highlights the importance of good diagnostic practice and specialized tools, precise and rigorous research methods, and understanding the risk factors associated with birth trauma. It underlines the role of prevention, early intervention, and access to services. The results of this investigation show that while the recommended treatment methods of postpartum PTSD are predominantly Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing, there are multiple other methods with less supporting evidence that have great potential. It identifies a lack of inclusion of empirical findings and knowledge from the field of psychotherapy in clinical guidelines regarding PTSD and suggests that more research is needed to establish a deeper understanding of postpartum PTSD

An investigation into the effects of blogging as an advertising tool in influencing purchase intention

    No full text
In recent years blogs have become a popular source of advertising and a trusted source for consumers to refer to during their decision-making process. However, little research has paid close attention to the impact of different blog types on purchase intention and their advertising effectiveness. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of blogs as an advertising tool and to examine the impact they have on consumer purchase intention. Using a mono method study and a deductive research approach the results of a survey involving 108 participants was analysed and indicated that trust in the blogger had a significantly influential effect on blog users’ attitude towards the brand and purchase intention. The findings also demonstrated that the effectiveness of advertising can be determined by the interaction effect of blog type and product type. The results suggest the use of bloggers to be a promising marketing strategy for increasing sales

    No full text
Jane Buggle and Marie O’Neill co-hosted the inaugural IFLA SIG on Library Publishing Mid-term Meeting at Dublin Business School in Dublin in spring 2019, which showcased library publishing exemplars from around the world. The meeting also displayed examples from the then-nascent Irish library publishing community. This paper will discuss a number of significant developments that have taken place in the last year to advance the Irish library publishing movement, stimulated and energised by the knowledge sharing among peers at the meeting in Dublin. Developments include the establishment of the Library Publishing Group of the Library Association of Ireland(LAI) with international affiliates and the embedding of Educopia’s Library Publishing Curriculum within a postgraduate Library Studies programme. Already a number of librarians involved in publishing activities have come forward to join the Library Publishing Group, augmented by librarians who also wish to develop the skillset.Dublin Business School CCT College Dubli
