The effect of physical exercise, coping, optimism and social support on overall psychological wellbeing
This quantitative and correlational study surveyed Irish adults to examine the effect exercise has on mental wellbeing, more specifically the types, frequency and social characteristics of exercise. Psychological wellbeing was measured based on life satisfaction, stress and happiness. Other variables; social support, coping, optimism and personality were also investigated. Participants were (n = 97) with slightly more females (60) than males (37). Participants were sourced through social media where the studies questionnaire was posted. Respondents exercise was measured by type, frequency and social characteristics. No statistically significant results were found between exercise and psychological wellbeing, which contrasts to previous research. The main conclusions did not conform to previous research which states personality, exercise frequency, exercise type and more social exercise have a substantial influence on life satisfaction, happiness, and stress. However, it did find a substantial influence of coping, optimism and social support on participants overall psychological wellbeing
Deep Learning in Games to Improve Autonomous Driving
Autonomous Driving is a lively research area in Artificial Intelligence that aims to automatize procedures for self-driving vehicles. Machine Learning has overcome human performance in some simulators with the development of techniques like Deep Reinforcement Learning and Convolutional Neural Networks, as they have been applied with great success to a variety of applications, such as video games. The objective of this work is to demonstrate established Deep Learning techniques used in videogame simulators to show proficiency in Autonomous Driving. In this research, concepts of Autonomous Driving, Video Games and Deep Learning are presented. For that, a simulator is used to enable the use of Machine Learning. Also, a technique
related to Deep Learning is evaluated and chosen for the demonstration of conduct vehicles automation in the videogame simulator. Variables related to the agent and the environment (such as distance, steer variation, among others) are taken into consideration
Is a prosocial personality a reliable predictor of philanthropic behaviour?
This mixed design study aimed to investigate if a prosocial personality and its underlying constructs; social responsibility, empathetic concern, moral reasoning and altruism, and gender, correlated with actual philanthropic behaviour. Participants were randomly recruited (N=97). Philanthropic behaviour was measured in terms of hours volunteered and financial donations made. Correlation analysis, using Spearman’s rho found a small correlation between a prosocial personality and hours volunteered. A medium correlation was found between past helpfulness and both hours volunteered, and donations made. A qualitative thematic analysis was conducted according to Braun & Clarke (2006, 2019) on the responses to two questions; What does philanthropy mean to you? and what are the key factors that influence your philanthropic engagement? The following themes were identified Q1; giving, strategic impact and altruism and Q2; Intrinsic value, empathy, influence change, resources, and cause. In conclusion the determinants of philanthropy are multifaceted and are not solely determined by prosocial traits
Ethical Business Effect on Consumers Purchase Decision
The research aim of this study is to analyse the influence of ethical business of the
purchase decision of the consumer. The methodology of the research was quantitative and was
conducted using a Survey method. An online and self-administered questionnaire of 22 items
with attitudinal statements was utilized to collect the primary data. The response sample
included one hundred and eighteen respondents (118). Three hypotheses were created to help
answer the research question, all of them were statistically significant (p <.001). Based on the
findings, the study reached to the conclusion that business ethics have a strong impact and
access to information about corporation have a strong impact on the consumer purchase
decision. However, price and quality were found to be factors that could prevent ethical
consumption. All in all, it is generally concluded that if an organization behaves ethically, it
will have a significant impact on consumer purchasing decisions
Differences of factor, challenge, method overcome challenge, and feelings between both gender of transvestites
The aim of this qualitative research was to investigate the factor, challenge facing, method overcome challenge and feelings of both gender of transvestites. A total of 5 transvestites (3 female and 2 male) had been participate in the study. A semi-structured interviews which consisted 10 questions had been conducted. All the data collected had been analysis by Nvivo 12 by using the inductive approach. The key variables has been finalise by mapping into 4 mains themes by using the thematic analysis. The 4 main theme which contain nature of factor, challenge facing, method to overcome and feelings of the transvestites. Female transvestite stated that the environment factor and gender discrimination were the main factor while the male transvestite reported the personal factor with trigger point were the main influence. Female transvestite had report did not receive challenge, while the male transvestites reported receiving verbal and physical discriminations
“How are you feeling?” Emotion AI and its Applications in Marketing
The relationship between emotions and behaviour is explored in different fields of
academic research. In marketing, several studies analyse how this human phenomenon
impacts purchase decision. In the digital era, a technology emerges to play the role of
understand and respond to human emotions: Emotion AI, a subset of Artificial
Intelligence designed to identify, recognize, and respond to different emotions has been
developed and applied in different segments, including online marketing. There is limited
academic research about the perception of Emotion AI among Millennial’s, the
generation known as digital native. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the
perceptions of this generation about Emotion AI. To reach this goal, an online survey was
distributed across different platforms targeting people aged between 25 and 40 years old
(millennials age group). Whilst the results found a significant level of awareness about
Emotion AI, it also revealed a lack of comfort about the use of this technology even
among high internet users. This apparent contradiction is one of the recommendations for
future research
Teachers’ perspectives on children’s mental health during the Covid-19 pandemic
This qualitative study aimed to explore the mental health of children during the Covid-19 pandemic from a teacher’s perspective. The study involved interviewing five primary teachers working in mainstream schools. An inductive thematic analysis approach was used to analyse the data from the interviews. Five main themes were developed 1) Child Anxiety, 2) Behavioural Changes, 3) The Importance of School, 4) Supporting Children and 5) Vulnerable. children. The results revealed, decline of children’s mental health may be due to the withdrawal of routine, lack of social outlets, a difficult home environment and isolation. The perspectives concluded that children with special educational needs and children considered disadvantaged may be more at risk. Schools are supporting children in a variety of ways; however, teachers are facing challenges when supporting them with demanding curriculum. This study proposes ideas for future research outside of Dublin. It also probes future research into the lasting effects of the pandemic on children in future years
The Changes In Generation X And Millennials Consumption Behaviours Of Whiskies And White Spirits In The North Of France And The Reasons For Those Changes
This research aimed at study the changes in generation X and millennials consumption
behaviours of whiskies and white spirits in the North of France and the reasons for the changes.
Two research method were used, a quantitative and qualitative one. A Google Form
questionnaire was created to determine the differences in the consumers’ behaviours of two
generations, 169 answers were collected analysed through an Excel Sheet. The data were
crossed regarding the gender and drinking habits of the consumers. The quantitative study found
out that the most important attributes when purchasing a whisky or white spirit for both
generations was the taste, followed by the price, the brand, and knowledge. Men would more
likely consume spirits pure and women in cocktails. 8 individual in-depth interviews of 30
minutes were conducted for the qualitative analysis, following different themes linked to the
questionnaire, they were analysed through Nvivo. The way and moment of consumption as well
as the factors that could negatively influence a purchase were the most different findings
between both generations. Millennials were consuming whisky during a tasting moment when
white spirits were mostly for cocktails and parties. Generation X consumed whisky, mostly
with coke and white spirits as a digestif or in cocktails. To conclude, the price was seen as a
quality guarantee for millennials and the packaging had to follow certain ideas generation X
had of a spirit. Millennials were going towards a premiumization of their purchase and both
generations linked those products to a social life and social events. Social media and influencers
could impact a millennial’s purchase while generation X was more impacted by in-store
communication
Isolating stroop interference to measure it in a classification modality vacuum
A repeated measures experiment was carried out with three trials, designed to minimise the impact of the congruity of the response method and task command on Stroop interference. The first trial was a classic Stroop experiment. The second and third trials were variations of Stroop experiments with amended response methods. The response method and task command had congruent classification modalities in the second, and an attempt was made to neutralise the relevance of classification modality in the third, using memory as a neutral mediator. The results supported the translational model and supported the idea that a memory based response method will cause additional interference not related to the Stroop effect. Interference was also found to be at similar levels in the neutral trial as it was in the classic Stroop test and so it was not possible to determine the extent to which the interference had been isolated. This was because the results in the neutral trial were not sufficiently different from those of a classic Stroop test so as to offset the surprisingly large non-Stroop related interference induced by the use of memory as classification modality for the response method
The relationship between alcohol consumption, non-cognitive traits and academic stress
The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between Non-cognitive traits, Alcohol Dependency and Academic Stress amongst 79 university students (N=79). Previous research has shown a link between alcohol and stress in students as well as between these variables and Grit and Impulsivity. A quantitative, correlational and quasi-experimental design was used to investigate these relationships. A questionnaire was used with a number of self-reporting measures and analysed using scales for Academic Stress, Alcohol Dependency, Impulsivity and Grit. Mode of study was also used as a variable to investigate a difference in scores of part-time and full-time students. The findings revealed no significant relationship between Alcohol Dependency, Academic Stress and Mode of Study. They also revealed no significant relationship between stress and Alcohol Dependency, or Grit and stress. Although a significant relationship was found between Impulsivity and stress. The results of a regression analysis revealed a relationship between Academic Stress, Alcohol Dependency and Impulsivity, which further revealed a significant relationship between Alcohol Dependency and Impulsivity
